I read your whole rant, Rusty and I've also read Wizbang - earlier today - and I have never seen nothing about what you're talking about my friend. You are losing it, pal. When does your plane leave? :-)
It's gonna be cold up here this week, bring warm clothes.

Hey, hey, hey! Since when do we use "guilt by association?" The whole Professor Phony crap has been Kevin and Paul EXCLUSIVELY! My whole contribution has been to eat my heart out in envy over the whole thing!
Time to rectify the situation. Rusty, if you'll kindly point me to some of your images that have not yet been stolen, I'll appropriate them posthaste.
For some people, it's "don't do the crime if you can't do the time." For me, it's "if you're gonna do the time, you might as well do the crime."

Weblog Awards and Defining 'Blogger'
The votes are in and the
2004 Weblog Awards race is over. Congrats to
Ace of Spades Headquarters, the only blog endorsed by me to win. So much for the crucial Rusty Shackleford endorsement.....
I have one bone to pick. I am pretty pissed about NRO's Kerry Spot winning for Best New Blog. Geraghty runs a great internet site, but it's not a blog. A blogger, by definition, doesn't have a boss. He might get paid through advertisements or donations, but he doesn't fill out a W-2. Geraghty is a columnist, Bill Ardolino is a blogger.
Kudos to Kevin Aylward who did his best to vet the process. I guess I'm partially to blame for some of the undeserving nominees making the final cut--I had promised him I'd help with the awards and then sort of cheesed out. Sorry, finals take a lot out of a guy. I had to decide whether to help with the awards or keep blogging. I chose the latter.
In the future, though, let's make sure blog awards go to, you know, bloggers. Not everyone who has a website is a blogger. Not everyone who writes online is a blogger. Bloggers are a community of the unprofessional. We are the pajamahadin. We are media entrepreneurs. We are what democracy looks like. We are the voice of the people.
We need to come up with a better definition for 'blog' and 'blogger'.
Ok, end pontification.
It was enough for me to make the final cut for Best New Blog of 2004. Thanks for the many endorsements--I lost track of them a day or so after the voting began. Shout out to all of you who didn't vote for me as instructed. Some props, too, for the homies who gave me their own awards. For instance, I received an award for Best Blog By A College Professor Who Can't Spell While Live Blogging During A Final Exam (in your face Llama Butchers) and one for Blogger most likely to appear under the headline 'Man Kills 5, Shoots Self' (update: read that one wrong earlier---I'm much happier with this one!!). I gladly accept those awards and thank all the little people that made this great occasion possible.....

We are the pajamahadin.
Ironic, isn't it, considering Geraghty was the first recorded instance of "pajamahadeen". This does not mean I disagree with you. Geraghty is good, but is he a blogger? And more importantly, does anyone care?
Posted by: Editor at December 14, 2004 12:39 PM (adpJH)

I"m afraid that you didn't quite pick up the right award statue from sortapundit. He actually named you the "Blogger most likely to appear under the headline 'Man Kills 5, Shoots Self'" and not the kind gay one.
That's not quite so good, I don't think...

On the contrary, that is a blog. A corporation can have a blog and it's still a blog.
However, Best of the Web Today, while wonderful, is a column, not a blog. It shouldn't have been a nominee, never mind a winner. Nor should it and other non-blogs ever be in the Ecosystem.
Posted by: Jay at December 14, 2004 01:59 PM (7RCzM)
5
Hm. There are a lot of people out there who are being paid to blog, but none of them are right-of-center. That said, there is something vaguely oxymoronic about calling something a "blog" that is part of an established media website.
And something a little weird about the Kerry Spot still being a web presence anyway. Election's over, you know?
The Best of the Web thing is a little the the Drudge Report thing: they both seem to be to be blog precursors. Taranto once called his thang a "bloglike column," and I liked that.
Personally, I'd love to be paid to blog, even if it meant that you'd never regard me as a True Blog again. I'll bet my husband would like it, too.

Jay, I just don't see it that way. It's like calling the Dallas Cowboys a great college football team. And I'm not knocking Geraghty, he's great, he's just not a blogger.

Rusty,
I think that's exactly what Jay was saying - the winner should not even have been on the list, should never have won because it's not a real blog nor is it done by a blogger under "Best of the Web." Either I'm mistaken but you both said the same thing, just differently.
I know, happens all the time. And Rusty, I did vote for you!!
Couldn't vote for you Jay because I couldn't find your name anywhere; maybe next year will be different and like the llamas, you'll have a partnership on a blog. (hint)
You're both great as far as I'm concerned.

Meet the New Hot Abercrombie Chick: Witty Sex Kitten
"
How do you start a winning blog?" asked the WaPo yesterday. Forget what
Bill at INDC says. Jeff G.
comes closer, but misses the mark. The key to blogging is this:
nipples.
Someone with a blog named Witty Sex Kitten dropped a comment today. What better way to attract attention in the sea of unread blogs than to put the phrase sex kitten in your title? Oh, but make sure that if you do sex kitten schtick you pose as a girl. This is crucial.
Seriously, there's good Witty Sex Kitten Schtick and there's bad Witty Sex Kitten schtick. What's the difference??
Start with the avatar. An avatar is a kind of visual image used to embody a person's online persona. For instance Moxie's boots, Beth's girl at the computer, or Little Miss Atilla's demure hottie.
Good Witty Sex Kitten avatar:

Bad Witty Sex Kitten avatar:

Next if you're going to do schtick like this make sure you post an online picture of yourself. Take a lesson from HAC Amanda Doerty--post a picture of a hot chick and pretend that it's you! Cause there is something trite and boring about another dude discussing the metaphysical assumptions behind affirmative action, but there's something intriguing and interesting about a hot young thang discussing the ontology of gay marriage.
Good Witty Sex Kitten fake pic:

Bad Witty Sex Kitten fake pic:

Last, make sure you know that there may be a big disconnect between the reasons you're blogging and the reasons your readers come back regularly. For instance, Amanda Doerty blogs because 'she' thinks 'she' has something important to say about politics and philosophy. However 'she' is well aware that 'her' consumers come to her blog to flirt with 'her', hence 'her' pic is on every page. Wonkette thinks she is witty, but her consumers read her stuff just waiting for the next anal sex reference. It's kind of like Howard Stern for the crowd living in their mother's basement. Moral of the story: make sure that either your fake pic is plastered on every page or you throw in plenty of reference to back door action. What you write is only tangential to the fantasy you project to your readers.
You know, I think I've learned something here today.......From this day, henceforth and forever, we shall be known as the Hot Lesbo Star Wars Report!! and I shall be known as Princess Brittney Spears. Here is my pic. I'm on the left. Toodles.

Wow. Hmm. I'm a little overwhelmed. And shocked. You're like the top of the food chain big hairy gorilla or lion or some shit in the ecosphere of blogorithms (fuck I don't even know what the hell that means) and I'm like an amoeba or a one celled organism, possibly just like chicken feed, and you're devoting a whole post to me and my stupid little week old blog about my quest not to be masturbated in front of in public and receive my damn vibrator in the mail? Thanks and stuff!
A few responses:
1. So I'm hoping my blog "schtick" (which is no schtick actually, all real life-the Jelly O finally arrived today! will be blogging a review of it ASAP) at least somewhat lived up to your inital "nipples" attraction/expectations. Now I fear the pressure might make me cave. And the 50 hits in 1 day concerns me my humor may not be up to par.
2. Do NOT expect a pic. ever, not even going to be cheezy and put up a fake pic., I go to law school, I have a future career presumably, a respectable one (unless I don't get a job in which case stripping is my back up, logically) and don't want all my co-workers to be privvy to these sorts of details.
3. If anybody wants to submit avatars other than a fucking mouse (no offense Rusty but a chick mouse with a garter on her thigh doesn't exactly like give off the vibe I'm going for) you're welcome to e-mail em to me. And you need to give me directions on how to put the thing on my website cuz I'm clueless.
4. Did not realize the title would be such a tease. Considering there about 8 mil. blogs with the word "chick" or "girl" in them I figured I was par for the course. If you read my intro you will see I would've gone with Tales of a Female Pimp but it was taken by some schmuck that hasn't put shit on her site.
5. Thank you, I will take the tip and make sure not to wax philosophically on anything political and/or news related other than anal sex and threesome's. I think I have made it quite clear from all 8 of my posts that I had no such intentions.
Thanks for the shout out. Do I at least get a fucking blogroll for this?

Damn, Bush Feels Good to be a Gangsta

Because I got to do something before the office party tonight! Seriously, tonight is the office Christmas shin-dig. In the spirit of Office Space, here is the fourth verse of
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta by the Geto Boys:
And now, a word from the President!
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
Gettin voted into the White House
Everything lookin good to the people of the world
But the Mafia family is my boss
So every now and then I owe a favor gettin' down
like lettin' a big drug shipment through
And send 'em to the poor community
So we can bust you know who
So voters of the world keep supportin' me
And I promise to take you very far
Other leaders better not upset me
Or I'll send a million troops to die at war
To all you Republicans, that helped me win
I sincerely like to thank you
Cuz now I got the world swingin' from my nuts
And damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Kitty Blogging
Just kidding. I will never post about cats.
Never. Neither would
Cindy of Immortal Rants. She would however blog about boobs. In particular
Bored Housewive's boobs. Me? In my mind you've seen one pair you've seen em all. Does that make me gay?

Geeze! And I thought I was bored housewife.
There will never be any braless pics of me EVER. (Alto I am told it would get me more traffic, as would slutty talk like a few chick bloggers who shall remain nameless.) I will just stick to good old fashioned winking and flirting. If I post another pic of me it will be related to something and I will be fully clothed.
I'm thinking this chick needs a job.

Rightwingsparkle,
If you knew her, you wouldn't have come across so condescending.
But then again, I don't know what standards you have to qualify as a decent person in your book.

I didn't say she wasn't a decent person!!!! I just implied she might be more bored than I am. How is that condescending? THe job reference was to her having frustrations with being home. (which I canrelate to) I am sure she is a perfectly nice person.

CBS Recruiting Anti-War Bloggers
Several months ago
CBS listed the top bloggers as Wonkette, Kos, and Andrew Sullivan.
Let's just say this came as no surprise then. As
Ace puts it, "
It just so happens that [CBS] only want to quote liberals, talk to liberals, ask questions of liberals, and give press to liberals."
And if any one from CBS happens to come upon this site you should know that I'm anti-war. Very anti-war. Bush=Hitler, Cheney Halliburton, No Blood for Oil....

Ditto that, and my favorite movies are "Yentl" and "Thomas the Tank Engine." My favorite musician is Yanni and I will never, ever defoul my home with animal products. Viva Tofu! And, and, my shelf is littered with the works of Chomsky, Moore and Marx, my favorite T.V. show is CBS news, and there is no finer political cartoonist than Ted Rall.......

Cindy, I don't want to give anything away to the CBS execs that will be reading this post, so come closer... closer... closer... okay, close enough.
***whispering*** Here's the deal - Rusty was being funny. He doesn't really think Bush=Hitler. It's the old bait-n-switch tactic, but sssshhhh, keep it on the QT.***ehem***

*Delivered in a stilted, stiff manner*
Ah Rusty, glad I caught you. Will you be joining us this weekend for our march against the policies of Bushitler and his... er... assorted right wing cronies? I will be bringing tofu, and we will sing through the night. By the way, the Iraq war was wrong, as we have discussed many times in the past.
p.s. Isn't Michael Moore really cool.
p.p.s. when the guy from CBS calls, tell him to visit Sortapundit too.

Ok, the gangsta schtick....
...is getting boring. I saw the new Snoop video this morning, so that is what got me on the kick. There's just something intrinsically funny about a middle-class suburbanite balding white guy getting into harcore gangsta rap. One of my favorite movies of all times is Office Space and there's nothing funnier than the contrast between the soundtrack and the subject matter. Haven't seen it? Go rent it now!

You know, you and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things...but I have to agree 100% on this. Office Space is such a great movie, and the scene you have there is probably my favourite (among many). The three of them taking it to the fax machine while the Geto Boys tune plays in the background is awesome! And then Michael Bolton going back for more!
Ahh, I should rent this again this weekend.
Peter: "What would you do with a million dollars?"
Lawrence: "I'll tell you what I'd do. Two chicks at the same time."
(yeah, I know that quote isn't about about Michael Bolton and how he listens to gangsta rap, but it's equally funny)

Link Drop Thursday (Crip edition)
If it hasn't become apparent to everyone who is a regular here, my blogging spirits have been down as of late. First the drop in the ecosystem--plummet is a better word to use. Second, sitmeter is down. Third, I haven't had any time to read other blogs in almost a week.
So, in my ongoing effort to have more fun while engaging in what has become an obsession, I'm going to do some serious link dropping today? Why? Because I'm West Coast, biyatches, and the Crips hang their colors on the left side.
Link dropping is so Old School, for-nizzle.

Removing Post on American Hostage in Iraq
For the past week I have been running tributes to the forgotten Americans being held hostage in Iraq. Some members of one of the hostages' immediate family have contacted me. They are afraid that overpublicizing their loved ones' plight could hurt his chances for release. Out of respect of the family I have taken down several posts. If you read the posts previously, I ask that you keep continuee to keep him in your prayers.

Dr. Rusty, Thank you for the tribute to the hostages. These past weeks have been painful and like no experience I've had in my life. Seeing the pain in my daughters eyes has hurt tremendously. Hopefully this matter will be resolved and you can write about that. I was married to Roy for 30yrs ,we divorced 1 yr ago , he will always be a dear friend.

Jawas Explained: A Guide to My Pet Jawa
Here is a classic
from the archives. Enjoy.
Ok, so I've been doing some thinking....not a lot, just some. It seems we can now safely divide our enemies into two camps.

First, you got the jawas. See, these guys don't really like us but don't mind making a buck selling us an R2 unit or oil or whatever. It doesn't matter to them if your part of the Imperial powers that be or a member of the Empire hating Rebel Alliance, as far as they are concerned you are just another colonist that a buck can be made from.
