State Department Doublespeak in Egypt

The new U.S. Ambassador to Egypt was recently confronted with questions about bloggers who are in jail because of their opposition to Hosni Mubarak's version of Ba'athism. His response? See if you can decipher this:

We don’t know all the facts. We know that there are at least two sides to every story. We’ve heard one side. I think it’s incumbent on the Government — not to explain to the United States of America, we’re not owed an explanation — but to Egyptians, what are the true facts? And, if the facts are not as portrayed by the opposition, then they should be brought out. And if the facts are even remotely as portrayed by the opposition, then they should also be brought out. And, what measures the Government will take to respond to those facts should also be explained.
Clear as mud, don't you think? The State Department continues its long history of avoiding conflict at all costs, even that of the truth.

Egyptian Sandmonkey has the full story.

Naked Witch Arrested in Saudi Arabia

If it wasn't so sad that Saudi Arabia actually has religious police going around arresting people on suspicion of "witchcraft" it would be funny.

Wait. It's still funny.

Via John, always on the lookout for all things 'naked' and 'sorceress', this from the official English language news outlet of the Saudi Arabian fascist government:

Members of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice received a call of a suspected African “sorceress” in the holy city’s Al-Seeh neighborhood. Members of the committee along with police went to the suspected den of the black arts to find a naked African woman. Embarrassed about busting into an apartment containing a naked woman, police paused just long enough for the woman to attempt an escape, still naked, through the window of her flat. Police followed in pursuit to discover that the woman had crashed through the ceiling of the neighbor’s flimsy house and landed on the floor next to a bed of sleeping children.
UPDATE: How do you know if a naked sorceress is really a sorceress?

Throw her out a very high window. If she floats in the air, she's a witch. If she plunges to her death, she's innocent.

Joyner also on the scent.

Al Qaeda Building Army in Preparation for Long War

In this fascinating article at the Jamestown Foundation, Michael Scheuer analyzes the strategic writings of al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia leader Abu Hajar Abd al-Aziz al-Muqrin. It seems that al-Muqrin has given a lot of thought to the "long war" against the United States--yes, al-Muqrin apparently is in agreement with the Bush Administration that this will be a long and protracted war.

The following is an analysis of the evolving tactics of al Qaeda and their "grand strategy" for winning the war against the U.S. more...

Bin Laden, Elvis, Bigfoot Seen in Pakistan

Another day, another bin Laden sighting.

Question: If the Pakistanis know where bin Laden is, then why the hell haven't they nabbed him?

Answer: Because they don't know where bin Laden is you mindless twits! Bin Laden is a greater threat to the Musharraf regime than he is to the U.S. If they Pakis knew where he was, they'd ice him in a heartbeat.

And another thing, if ABC News is so convinced on the reliability of their Pakistani sources, then why are they running this story on one of their blogs and not on the front page?

My money is still on the Horn of Africa. Start with Mogadishu, and start working outward in concentric circles from there.

UPDATE: Bill Roggio notices that whoever wrote the ABC bin Laden specuation can't read a friggin map. And Chad looks into the source of the claim and finds it, shall we say, lacking in credibility.

25 Million + Veteran's Data Stolen.

Via Mike Hampton :

The Department of Veterans Affairs reported Monday that a laptop computer containing the names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers of over 26,000,000 veterans was stolen from the home of an employee who had taken the data home without authorization.

In response, the VA is sending the following letter (PDF) to veterans whose names were on the list. It has also published a list of Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) about the data breach, as if they already know what questions will be frequently asked.

I hate laptops. You call a box of chicklets a workstation? One company IÂ’m familiar with can encrypt the whole PC for you. They are called Pointsec. IÂ’m sure there are more.

CAIR Upset at LGF

This time they point the ROP finger at LGF for comments made by those upset over statements made by Islamic Jihad after the murder of Daniel Wultz. He was an American victim of a terrorist attack by Islamic Jihad in Israel. CAIR conveniently left out what upset the commentersÂ…

Fontpagemag :Many of the blog comments offered prayers to the Wultz family. Others dealt with the terrorist groups’ reactions to Wultz’s injuries. In an interview with Aaron Klein from World Net Daily, Abu Ayman, a PIJ leader, said, “Our hero believed in Allah and died while fighting for Allah but your pig was killed in a restaurant in an area full of prostitution.” And Abu Nasser, a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the other group responsible for the attack, stated, "This is a gift from Allah. We wish this young dog will go directly with no transit to hell.”
More fine Representative of the ROP chime in here.
Worldnetdaily: JERUSALEM – Daniel Wultz, a Florida teenager lying in a coma after being critically injured last week in a suicide bombing at an Israeli restaurant, is the "best target combination we can dream of – American and Zionist," Abu Nasser, a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, one of the groups responsible for the deadly blast, told WorldNetDaily.

Abu Ayman, a leader of the Islamic Jihad, which also took responsibility for the April 17 bombing in which Wultz was injured, threatened all Americans and Jews worldwide and expressed regret Wultz is still alive.

"If we know there are Americans in a place we plan to attack, we will not cancel the operation. On the contrary this would be a sign from Allah that this is a more blessed operation. Killing Americans and Jews in one operation – it can be great."

Killing Americans and Jew can be great! Just like frosted Flakes! The westerners are justifiably outraged. So are we intolerant for making war and killing those who murder us and call us pigs. Of course the Islamic terrorists always blame it on being “oppressed” or “mistreated” when in fact they are responsible for the state of their nations. But when did they ever work at making anything better? Never, they are lazy! They destroy and whine hoping someone will come in and fix their lands which they have ruined. Why? Because it’s easy, Taking responsibility for their actions and building a future for themselves is just too much work. So their brilliant minds all seem to land on, “Lets blow shit up”. The lazy cowards, how about you Mr. Abu Ayman, when will you martyr yourself? Or, being the coward that you are, will you leave that to some brainwashed teen?

Taliban Suffering Heavy Losses.

You knew the Taliban would try to make some noise this spring. Despite the “massive” (cough) offensive” the only thing they have accomplished so far is getting killed.

Yahoo News: KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - U.S.-led coalition aircraft killed up to 80 suspected Taliban militants in a night airstrike in southern

Afghanistan, the coalition said Monday. The local governor said 16 civilians also died.

A coalition statement said it had confirmed 20 Taliban killed in the attack on a suspected Taliban stronghold in the village of Azizi in Kandahar province late Sunday and early Monday, while there were "an unconfirmed 60 additional Taliban casualties."

Kandahar Gov. Asadullah Khalid said he believed 60 militants were killed, as well as the civilians.

Complaints about civilian casualties were strong. However NPR reported that one man admitted that Taliban fighters were using his rooftop (they did not post a link because that was positive news I guess). My advice to any civilians is; when the Taliban show up, get the heck out or run them off. If you support them and feed them, then make your will and stand where you are. Remember a key part of the terrorist strategy is to claim mistreatment at every turn. This is to distract from their use of terror, beheadings, hiding behind civilians, posing as civilians, targeting civilians, you name the war crime they do it openly and somehow escape the fearsome MSM.

Taliban Patches for Hindus Were for Saftey

Were, “for their own good,”, Said Yale Taliban, Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi.

Via Clint W. Taylor at Townhall :
he told UPI's Arnaud De Borchgrave how wonderful it was that the Taliban assigned yellow identity badges to their religious minorities (in this case Hindus). It was, said Hashemi, for their own good:

Yale Taliban, Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi --On distinctive patches to be worn by non-Muslims: "Everything we decide is immediately castigated as worthy of history's bloodthirsty dictators. This decision was designed to protect Hindus who kept complaining to us that they were being harassed by the religious police for not going to the mosque at prayer time."

Harrassed by the religious Police? Do they have those in Iran too? I'd rather be harrassed by the Iranian's. They might hang me from a crain, but they would probably just jail me, beat me, fine me, and release me. The Taliban would probably just start sawing right away.

Mr. Blagojevich Sign this Bill

From my Illinois Republican Newsletter

ILL Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson :Senate Republicans are urging the Governor to sign the “Let Them Rest in Peace Act” to allow an Effingham soldier to “Rest in Peace” during his funeral later this week.

Warrant Officer Second Class Christopher Donaldson, 28, was among 10 people killed in Afghanistan when a helicopter went down during combat operations.

The “Let Them Rest in Peace Act”, which was unanimously approved by the Illinois House and Senate, would place restrictions on protests at military funeral services in Illinois, by prohibiting loud and inflammatory protests within 200 feet of all Illinois funeral services beginning 30 minutes before a funeral, during a funeral, and 30 minutes after the funeral. The measure, which currently awaits the Governor’s final approval, would safeguard the right of families like Warrant Officer Second Class Christopher Donaldson’s to bury their loved ones in peace.

The “Let Them Rest in Peace Act” was crafted in response to a series of disruptions at military funerals in Illinois and nationwide by members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., a fundamentalist church group at the burials of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The original House bill was held in the Senate Rules Committee by the Senate Democrat leadership until Senate Republican members drew attention to the issue and a compromise was reached.

Indonesia Anti Porn Law Dripping with Islamlofascism

The Islamic fascists are hijacking the intended purpose of the law, changing it into a thinly veiled version of Sharia law for women. Even this modest traditional garment would violate the law as “bare shoulders” are forbidden and can carry stiff fines and prison sentences. Even being a bit late getting home after sundown can be construed as prostitution.

NPR (more audio at link) :Indonesia's controversial new anti-pornography bill is drawing some criticism in the moderate Muslim nation. In its current form, the bill cracks down on adult books and films. But it also targets many forms of social behavior, such as kissing in public and how women dress.
More here from The Standard:
Fauzia Damayanti stands to spend 10 years in prison unless she mends her wicked ways. Her possible crime? The Jakarta housewife wears miniskirts.

Under a draft anti-pornography bill being considered by Indonesian lawmakers, women who wear clothes deemed to be revealing may be jailed or fined as much as $111,000. Couples who kiss in public may face a five-year sentence or a $55,000 fine.

Indonesia is a huge collection of cultures. Grandpa's stories of New Guinnea are fun. The WAC nurses gave one young lady a brand new brazier to wear in the humid 120 degree conditions. She loved wearing it around her waist to hold fruit and other items she would buy at the market.
Bloomberg :The issue has ignited unprecedented debate in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, over the role of Islam in public life. While 85 percent of the nation's 228 million people say they are Muslims, traditional dress codes among more than 400 ethnic groups range from bare breasts in West Papua to naked shoulders in Java. Indonesia's archipelago straddles the equator and mostly has a tropical climate.

``Indonesia has no tradition of covering all of the body; it's a tradition of the Middle East,'' said Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, a law professor at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta and chairwoman of the university's Human Rights Study Center. ``We have hundreds and hundreds of customs, so why should we have a single type of clothing for every citizen?''

Conservatives are trying to introduce elements of Islamic law, or Shariah, through the bill, Harkrisnowo said. Several regencies, or local governments, have introduced similar bylaws.

Well, there is always Tahiti/Moorea. more...

Can We Talk?

Ayaan Hirsi to liberal group.

Via Atlas Shrugs : “My criticism of the West, especially of liberals, is that they do take freedom for granted,” Ms. Ali responded. She noted that Western Europeans born after World War II are unused to conflict. “They have lost the instinct to recognize that there can be such a thing as an enemy or a threat to freedom, and that’s what I’m witnessing in Europe now,” she stated. “[There is] a pacifist ideology that violence should never be used in any circumstances, and so we should talk and talk and talk. Even when your opponent tells you, ‘I don’t want to talk to you, I want to destroy you,’ the reaction is, ‘Please, let’s talk about the fact that you want to destroy me!’”

Fearsome Mujahadbeen can't operate cool assault weapon in video.

ABCNEWS (video bloopers here): Lynch said Zarqawi decided not to publicize the piece, which shows him decked out in New Balance sneakers. In it, he said, Zarqawi had trouble firing his automatic weapon and needed assistance from an aide, and his associates "do things like grab the hot barrel of the machine gun and burn themselves."

Louis Rukeyser Dead at 73

When I was just a wee lad my Grandfather on my Fathers side always watched two programs that stuck with me. One was the McLaughlin Group, the other was Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. When Wall Street Week dumped the ailing Rukeyser for two empty TV heads from Money Magazine I stopped watching.

NPR : John Ydstie has a remembrance of straight-talking business commentator Louis Rukeyser. The author, columnist and television host died Tuesday. He was 73.
Rukeyser.com has a short biography here. Lou I'll miss you

Update : Rukeyser.com :

As many of you know, Louis Rukeyser died May 2 at his home in Connecticut. We have lost a great man who was an inspiration to millions of investors — and to those of us who had the honor of working with him.

Terrorist Mustafa Setmarian Nasar in US Custody

It seems the Pakistanis donÂ’t have him, gee I wonder where he could be? I imagine he is getting a free all expense paid trip to lovely tropical Cuba.

Yahoo News : KABUL, Afghanistan - A top al-Qaida leader whose links stretch from Afghan terror training camps to extremist networks operating throughout Europe has been detained in neighboring Pakistan and possibly handed over to American authorities, according to a U.S. law enforcement official.

Mustafa Setmarian Nasar, a Syrian who also holds Spanish citizenship, was captured in a November 2005 sting in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta that left one person dead, said the American official, who declined to be identified further because the matter is sensitive.

A senior Pakistani intelligence official told The AP from the capital, Islamabad, that Nasar had been flown out of Pakistan to an undisclosed destination "some time ago."

"I only know that he is not here. But, I do know that Syrian authorities had also requested to get him back," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of sensitive nature of his work.

A picture and short biography of the red-haired Nasar was recently removed from the U.S. government's Rewards for Justice Web site. Justice and State Department officials declined to say why Nasar was no longer profiled.

Nasar was captured in Pakistan last November. His primary function was writing jihadist propaganda.

Al-Qeada Schmeada

Familiarity breeds contempt and I think we are all pretty familiar with al-Qaeda now.

MSNBC :Radical Islamic terror made big, violent and scary moves and—whether you judge it by media coverage, stock-market movements or international responses—the world yawned.
More from Captain Ed here are Captain's Quarters :
He(Zarqawi) has crapped out using his own strengths against the Americans, and now he wants to play directly into American strength in a stand-up fight. He may think that this will frighten the US military and its leadership, but right now I'd bet dollars to donuts they're either (a) laughing themselves silly, (b) high-fiving all around Centcom for having forced Zarqawi into this desperation tactic, or (c) both.
Yahharrrahhhh! Al-Qaeda, pardon us if we trembled in yawning boredom rather than fear.
