American born Muslim terrorist Ahmed Omar Abu Ali has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for being part of an al Qaeda cell which plotted to bring terrorists over the border from Mexico, hijack airplanes, and which planned to assassinate the President of the United States. Despite being convicted in November, The Muslim American Society continued to raise money for the defense of the admitted al Qaeda member.Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is the son of a Saudi embassy worker and the valedictorian of a radical Islamic school operated by the Saudi Arabian government in Alexandria Virginia, the Islamic Saudi Academy. The curriculum of the school, when Abu Ali was attending, was antisemitic and Wahhabi in orientation and which included a textbook condemning Christians and Jews as infidels.
The convicted terrorists parents, Omar and Faten Ali, likely encouraged their sons jihadi tendencies by sending him to an Islamic school. The couple [pictured right] worshipped at the Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center, which is a known Salaafist stronghold and is where two of the 9/11 hijackers worshiped. Although originally from Jordan, Faten could often be seen defending her son in public wearing the Saudi style head scarf so often associated with Wahabism.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali has been called the 'Rosa Parks of the Muslim community' by Imam Abdul-Malik of the Fall's Church Virginia mosque. Abu Ali has admitted to meeting with Zubayr Al-Rimi, al Qaeda's #2 man in Saudi Arabia while studying in Mecca.
Good riddance to the American born traitor, but we were under the impression that the penalty for treason was death?
Meanwhile, the INS is set on increasing the number of student visas to college students from Saudi Arabia by nearly 400%:

Also, as a Muslim, I'll be the first to say that if Abu Ali indeed did what he was charged with, then he got what he deserves. But your anti-Islamic rhetoric is a bit unnecessary, don't you guys think?

More charges have been filed against Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the Virginia terrorist linked to al Qaeda. Yesterday, a federal grand jury formally broungt an indictment against the former valedictorian of a Saudi government run Islamic school in Virginia. The new charges in the indictment alleged that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali plotted to bring members of an al Qaeda cell into the country through Mexico in order to commit acts of terrorism on American soil. The indictment reaffirmed earliler allegations made by the FBI that Ali planned to assassinate President George W. Bush.
The Washingto Post reports:
The new nine-count indictment also adds charges of conspiracy to commit aircraft piracy and destroy aircraft, part of the Justice Department's allegations that Abu Ali was plotting with al Qaeda to conduct a Sept. 11-style attack in the United States that would include hijacking planes.How have Muslim Americans reacted? The Muslim American Society of America and of North America have no new press releases concerning Ahmed Omar Abu Ali. However, both websites continue to raise money for the traitor Ali's defense.
These two organizations have ties to the original radical Salafist movement, The Muslim Brotherhood. Al Qaeda broke ties with that group in the early 1990s when the former disclaimed violence as a method of acheiving the same goals espoused by both groups. The mosque attended by Ali has direct ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Saudi funded Islamic school attended by Ali, at the time he attended, had a Wahhabi curriculum that included textbooks with anti-semetic conspiracy theories. Ali's father works at the Saudi Arabian embassy. His mother, pictured above, can be seen wearing a full cover veil in public.
For some odd reason, official Muslim advocacy organizitions continue to believe that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is innocent and that there is a massive plot against him and other Muslims. It's almost as if their first loyalty is with something other than their 'beloved' country. I'm praying for the day that Muslims abandon organizations like MAS and CAIR en masse......
Ali's arraignment hearing is set for next Wednesday. He is expected to plead not guilty.

A federal magistrate Tuesday declined to release a Virginia man on bond who is accused of joining al-Qaida and plotting to kill President Bush.Earlier today we had reported that an FBI agent had accused Abu Ali of admitting to his involvement with al Qaeda. The agent also revealed that the al Qaeda plot also included plans to replicate the 9-11 mass murders by hijacking a plane overseas and hitting a high-profile US target. more...But U.S. Magistrate Liam O'Grady left open the possibility of reconsidering his decision after hearing evidence that a top FBI official indicated last spring that the suspect, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, was no longer of interest to the bureau and might soon be freed from a prison in Saudi Arabia.
For the moment at least, O'Grady accepted the government's arguments and ruled that "there's way beyond clear and convincing evidence that (Abu Ali) is a danger to the community" and should not be released pending trial.

Further, FBI agent Barry Cole testified that Abu Ali is an admitted member of al Qaeda. Cole testified that Abu Ali had also discussed with his al Qaeda associates the possibility of another 9-11 style attack either in the United States and that (Reuters):
"Once into U.S. territories they would fly into designated targets," he said.Ali is also to have allegedly called his Saudi captors "Jew scum."Abu Ali also discussed killing U.S. congressmen, soldiers and blowing up naval ships in American ports, Cole said.
This would mesh with earlier reports made here that Ali was raised in a household that supported the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is a world-wide movement dedicated to the restoration of the Islamic Caliphate. The teachings of the mosque attended by Abu Ali in his youth would have indoctrinated him to believe that the Saudi government had corrupted 'true Islam' and was a front for Zionist and Crusaders.
Lawyers for Ahmed Omar Abu Ali are scheduled to testify later today. more...

Meanwhile the New York Times runs an article yesterday in which Muslim-Americans compare the would-be Presidential assassin to Rosa Parks:

"They don't see this as a case of criminality. They see it as a civil rights case. As a frontal attack on their community."...Even as Mr. Ali's parents feign that their son couldn't be a terrorist, the article also goes on to describe the mosque attended by the family as Wahhabi. Nope, never heard of a pious Wahhabi wanting to kill Americans or anything."The feeling I get here on a daily basis must be what it was like to be a member of Martin Luther King Jr.'s church following the case of Rosa Parks," said Imam Abdul-Malik. "People always ask, 'What is the latest from the courthouse?' "

The USDOJ alleges that Abu Ali along with "Co-Conspirator #2" plotted to either shoot the President or use a car-bomb to kill him. But who is "Co-Conspirator #2"? His name is Zubayr Al-Rimi.

According to the FBI, "Zubayr Al-Rimi is being sought for questioning in connection with possible threats against the United States."
Apparently Reuters picked up on Evan's line of reasoning:
The man, identified only as co-conspirator No. 2, was on a list of 19 suspects in suicide bombings at housing compounds in Riyadh in May 2003 that killed 35 people. Saudi officials have said the 19 had contacts with al-Qaida.Meanwhile, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali's parents continue to feign that they knew nothing of their sons jihadi ties and are bringing suit against the United States. This despite the fact that they sent their son to a Wahhabi school funded by the Saudis and attended a Saalifiyah mosque. ABC News:Among those killed in a raid in September 2003 was Zubayr al-Rimi, also known as Sultan Jubran Sultan al-Qahtani. Saudi officials described him as the second-ranking al-Qaida member in Saudi Arabia. The raid came after a tip from the FBI, part of heightened cooperation between the United States and Saudi Arabia following the May attacks.
The family of a 23-year-old accused of plotting with al-Qaida to kill President Bush said Thursday they want to pursue a lawsuit accusing the administration of being behind their son's detention and alleged torture in a Saudi prison.And how does Faten, who is from Jordan yet wears the veil so common in Saudi Arabia, know? She knows it because the US is the puppetmaster of Saudi Arabia. This is what her husband claims:Ahmed Abu Ali "was tortured on orders of the USA; they are monsters," his mother, Faten, said outside a federal courtroom.
The young man's father, Omar, said, "The Saudi government are slaves of the Americans" and the U.S. government is lying when it says his son was under Saudi control for the 20 months before he was flown to the United States and charged.Oddly enough, this is the same thing the jihadis in the Muslim Brotherhood believe. The organization with ties to the mosque that the Ali family attend. The Muslim American Society, the US branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, organized the press conference and rally that the Ali couple made the accusation.
Coincidentally, the al Qaeda Organization on the Arabian Peninsula also believes that the Saudi government is a slave of the Americans. The younger Ali is accused of being a member of that organization.
Whether or not the parents openly support violent jihad against the US and Saudi government is irrelevant if they believe that the US and their Saudi puppets are evil and corrupt governments. If the son also believed what was being taught in the home, in school, and in the mosque than it is predictable that he would follow his conscience and plan war against those he was taught to hate.
Abu Ali the elder also claims that his son was tortured in Saudi Arabia at the behest of the CIA. How does he know?
Outside the courtroom, Omar Abu Ali said he knew his son was being tortured at the Alhair prison in Riyadh because of the words the young man blurted out in his first phone call home after being arrested.Sounds like code for "I was tortured" to me. However, from the motion filed by the DOJ over bail we learn:"I've been on a long trip in a wild jungle," Omar Abu Ali said his son told him. The father said he was terrified by the call because he knew it was code that he was being tortured.
An American doctor gave the defendant a thorough physical examination on or about February 21, 2005, after the defendant had been transferred by the Saudi Government to U.S. custody. The doctor found no evidence of any physical mistreatment on the defendantÂ’s back or any other part of his body. Moreover, the doctor specifically asked the defendant if he had been abused or harmed in any way, and the defendant said no.During the initial hearing, you will recall, that Abu Ali's lawyer blurted out that Ali had been beaten and exclaimed he wanted to show the judge. The lawyer, of course, knew that the judge would not allow that to be done. Further:
The Consul at the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, an employee of the Department of State, metIt goes on, but the most telling part from the DOJ motion is this:
personally with the defendant on several occasions during his detention in Saudi Arabia.
On no occasion did the defendant complain of any physical or psychological
mistreatment. To the contrary, the defendant advised the Consul – to whom he could have confided claims of mistreatment to prompt intervention on his behalf by the U.S. Government – that he was being well treated. For example, during the Consul’s initial visit with the defendant on July 8, 2003, the defendant used the words “excellent,” “kind,” and “humane” to describe his treatment. During a subsequent visit in August 2003, the defendant remarked that he had access to a gym with fitness machines and was permitted to play soccer with other inmates in a gym area. The Consul routinely recorded after each visit that the defendant “was in good health and spirits. There was nothing in his physical appearance, demeanor, or speech to indicate mistreatment or abuse.”
Not until his initial appearance, with members of the news media present, did the defendant claim that he had been physically mistreated while in Saudi custody.Indeed.

You will recall from this post that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali attended a mosque with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Although the official stance of the Muslim Brotherhood has been to renounce violence in pursuit of their political goals, it is the nature of the political goals themselves that are troubling. The Muslim Brotherhood wishes to restore the global calilphate and impose sharia law. The Muslim Brotherhood is in fact the ideological parent of al Qaeda.
If The Muslim Brotherhood sounds so familiar it is because Lynne Stewart was recently convicted of passing information from her terrorist client Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman to the radical Egyptian Brotherhood, an offshoot of the larger group. The Sheik was a key figure in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
From the Defense Department's motion recounting material found in Ahmed Omar Abu Ali's Fairfax, Virginia home:
A book in Arabic written by senior al-Qaeda official Ayman al-Zawahiri, Usama bin LadenÂ’s deputy, in which al-Zawahiri characterizes democracy as a new religion that must be destroyed by war, describes anyone who supports democracy as an infidel, and condemns the Muslim Brotherhood for renouncing violent jihad as a means to establishing an Islamic state.In another document we hear the standard Islamist rejoinder against the US toppling of the Taliban regime and praises the Sept. 11th attrocities. Notice how jihadis both deny that bin Laden was responsible for the attacks yet praise him for doing so:

Audio tapes in Arabic promoting violent jihad, the killing of Jews, and a battle by Muslims against Christians and Jews.This last bit from the motion sums it all up:
The defendantÂ’s possession of these items at his residence makes it clear that even before he departed the United States for Saudi Arabia in September 2002, he already had come to embrace and support the violent ideology and objectives of al-Qaeda.It should come as no surprise that the Valedictorian of a school with a Wahhabi curriculum--a school entirely funded by the Saudi Arabian government--who attended a mosque with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, who's family calls on the help of the Muslim American Society--the American arm of the Muslim Brotherhood--would actually believe what he was being taught and attempt to act on those beleifs.
The objection might be raised that since the Muslim Brotherhood has parted with al Qaeda by renouncing violence that these connections are meaningless. Possibly, however the renouncement of violence was a tactical move on part of the Muslim Brotherhood. They did not renounce violent jihad in principle, rather, they say violent jihad is not necessarily the best tactic.
More evidence that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali hated his country of birth comes from the motion. We reported early on that the indicted suspect's father and mother, Omar and Faten Ali, are Jordanian by birth (after correcting an error that we made that they were Saudi). While Omar has become a naturalized citizen of the US, his wife Faten is still a Jordanian. Because of this, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was a dual citizen of Jordan and the US.
What would you do if you had dual citizenship and yet believed that one of these two nations was guilty of being the equivalent of Nazi Germany? From the motion:
The government proffers that the defendant lived in Jordan from 1993 to 1997, and that he has close family members residing in Jordan. Indeed, the defendant has admitted that he possesses Jordanian citizenship in addition to his U.S. citizenship10 and, in a
November 2003 meeting with the U.S. Consul in Riyadh, inquired about the procedures for renouncing his U.S. citizenship.

Did Omar and Faten Ali and know of their sons jihadism?The jihadi connection only gets deeper. From this NY Times article (ht: Katherine) we learn that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the man indicted on charges of working with al Qaeda to plot the assassination of the President of the US, taught Islamic studies to children at the Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center while still in high school. According to the Washington Post, the Center has been a gathering place for Islamist and jihadi activity in the US.
Two of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers worshiped at the mosque and several of the group's founders were active in the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. It is no surprise that the Muslim American Society pushed for Ahmed Abu Ali's release and its members showed up in force to laugh at the judge during Ali's indictment. The Muslim American Society is also associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Muslim Brotherhood is the original al Qaeda. Al-Ikhwan, as it is known in Arabic, was started in 1928 as an Islamist organization with the goal of seeting up the world-wide Islamic state. The radical goals of the Muslim Brotherhood and the political teachings of its founder were the inspiration behind Ossama bin Laden's al Qaeda organization.
Are we to believe that Mr. Omar Abu Ali was not aware of the Salafiyya dogma being taught at the Mosque he attended? A dogma which calls for the introduction of sharia law into the Muslim world? A dogma which calls for violent jihad against regimes in the Middle East?
And is it just a coincidence that Faten Ali, [pictured above] hides behind a veil?

Today, the MSM begins to pick up the story. A couple of stories of note follow.
This Philadelphia Daily News story uses the catchy phrase of 'Terror High' to describe the school. An added bonus is that the astute reporter thought to give Daniel Pipes a call. Here are some highlights:
The school's former comptroller, arrested last year after videotaping the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland, has been labeled by federal agents as a high- ranking member of the terrorist group Hamas....From another article in Karala Next:Daniel Pipes, director of the Philadelphia-based Middle East Forum and a well-known advocate of aggressive anti-terror policies, said the school is like "having a little piece of Saudi Arabia" in northern Virginia. He claimed the Islamic Saudi Academy is a classic case of pitting free speech against protection from future attacks.
"It's like the Nazis having little Hitler schools in America during the 1930s," Pipes said last night. Fifteen of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers were Saudi, although the oil-rich nation is a close ally of the Bush administration....
In March 2002, another graduate of the school, Mohammad Usman Idris, then 24, was charged with lying to a grand jury probing plots against Israel.
Pipes said last night that the fact that the school is funded by the Saudis does not seem to give the United States much leverage in dealing with it.
He noted that the oil kingdom "is not really a friend and not really an enemy" and that "we need to sort it all out."
The private school's teachings have come under scrutiny since the Sept. 11 attacks. Federal court documents in a case against another academy graduate suspected of terrorism indicate that student discussions following Sept. 11 took an anti-American bent and that some students considered the attacks legitimate "payback" for American mistreatment of the Muslim world.

While an American citizen by birth, his father Omar Abu Ali is a naturalized US citizen but works as a systems analyst at the Royal Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington, DC. Further, the web page of the school attended by Ahmed Omar Abu Ali indicates that admissions priority is given to the children of Saudi diplomats (h/t: Kevin Aylward).
I have written the Saudi Embassy and asked two questions.
1) Does Mr. Omar Abu Ali carry diplomatic credentials?
2) Does Mr. Omar Abu Ali carry a valid Saudi Arabian passport, making him a dual citizen?

The Royal Saudi Embassy is also connected to the Virginia high school which Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was valedictorian of. The school is linked at the Saudi Embassy's web page here. A webpage since removed by the Saudi Embassy but which was cached by Google also claims "The Academy is an independent, non-profit educational institution, funded by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
Various press accounts have overlooked the Islamic Saudi Academy's ties to the Saudi Embassy. Further, press reports have overlooked that school's long history of teaching radical Islamist doctrines to its pupils.
Could Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the man accused of being involved in an al Qaeda plot to assassinate President Bush be simply following the dictates of a conscience tempered by a radical Islamic education in suburban Virginia?
Was the Saudi government reluctant to press charges against Abu Ali because his father was a diplomat?
Was the Saudi government so slow in turning the suspected al Qaeda member over to American authorities for so long because of the embarassing connections between the Embassy, the school, and the House of Saud?

The Islamic Academy is a private institution wholly financed by the Saudi government. The director, Ibrahim Al-Gosair, and his Saudi staff are given diplomatic status. In fact, because of diplomatic immunity, the school lies only under the jurisdiction of the State Department. Saudi citizens constitute 50 percent of the student body while the remaining half includes Arab and Muslim-Americans. The Saudi Academy teaches an intolerant form of Wahhabi Islam to young Muslim children.
A top textbook consultant shaping classroom education on Islam in American public schools recently worked for a school funded and controlled by the Saudi government, which propagates a rigidly anti-Western strain of Islam, a WorldNetDaily investigation reveals.Warriors for truth reports:The consultant, Susan L. Douglass, has also praised Pakistan's madrassa schools as "proud symbols of learning," even after the U.S. government blamed them for fueling the rise of the Taliban and al-Qaida.
Douglass, routinely described as a "scholar" or "historian," has edited manuscripts of world history textbooks used by middle and high school students across the country. She's also advised state education boards on curriculum standards dealing with world religion, and has helped train thousands of public school teachers on Islamic instruction.
In effect, she is responsible for teaching millions of American children about Islam, experts say, while operating in relative obscurity.
WorldNetDaily has learned that up until last year Douglass taught social studies at the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, Va., which teaches Wahhabism through textbooks that condemn Jews and Christians as infidels and enemies of Islam. Her husband, Usama Amer, still teaches at the grades 2-12 school, a spokeswoman there confirmed. Both are practicing Muslims.
The Saudi government funds the school, which has a sister campus in Fairfax, Va.
"It is a school that is under the auspices of the Saudi Embassy," said Ali al-Ahmed, executive director of the Washington-based Saudi Institute, a leading Saudi opposition group. "So the minister of education appoints the principal of the school, and the teachers are paid by the Saudi government."
He says many of the academy's textbooks he has reviewed contain passages promoting hatred of non-Muslims. For example, the eleventh-grade text says one sign of the Day of Judgment will be when Muslims fight and kill Jews, who will hide behind trees that say: "Oh Muslim, oh servant of God, here is a Jew hiding behind me. Come here and kill him."
Al-Ahmed, a Shiite Muslim born in predominantly Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia, says the school's religious curriculum was written by Sheik Saleh al-Fawzan, a senior member of the Saudi religious council, who he said has "encouraged war against unbelievers." Al-Fawzan has authored textbooks used in Saudi schools.

The Islamic Saudi Academy does not require that U.S. history or government be taught, offering Arabic social studies as an alternative. Officials there said that only Saudis who intend to return home do not take U.S. history, though a handful of U.S.-born students who plan to stay in this country said they opted against it, too.
School officials would not allow reporters to attend classes. But a number of students described the classroom instruction and provided copies of textbooks.
Ali Al-Ahmed, whose Virginia-based Saudi Institute promotes religious tolerance in Saudi Arabia, has reviewed numerous textbooks used at the academy and said many passages promote hatred of non-Muslims and Shiite Muslims.
The 11th-grade textbook, for example, says one sign of the Day of Judgment will be that Muslims will fight and kill Jews, who will hide behind trees that say: "Oh Muslim, Oh servant of God, here is a Jew hiding behind me. Come here and kill him."
Several students of different ages, all of whom asked not to be identified, said that in Islamic studies, they are taught that it is better to shun and even to dislike Christians, Jews and Shiite Muslims.
Some teachers "focus more on hatred," said one teenager, who recited by memory the signs of the coming of the Day of Judgment. "They teach students that whatever is kuffar [non-Muslim], it is okay for you" to hurt or steal from that person.
Other teachers present more tolerant views, students said. Usama Amer, a veteran math teacher, is popular not only for his math skills but also for regularly allowing students free debate about topics within Islam.
The Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) in Northern Virginia forthrightly states that even though it exists on U.S. soil, it is "subject to the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."While the Saudi government has instituted reforms in their education system in the past two years, it will be noted that Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is 23, thus he would have gone through the system before any such reforms.Students at ISA are not required to study U.S. history or government. They do, however, receive instruction in Wahhabism.
Outsiders are not permitted to observe Wahhabism lessons or any other classes at ISA. But early this year, students at the academy told two Washington Post reporters some of the things they learn at school. Among other things, students discover the intricacies of Judgment Day.
One event on that formidable day will be that Muslims will fight and kill Jews. The cowardly Jews will seek refuge behind trees. Much like the trees in the forest scene from the Wizard of Oz, these trees will become animated and aggressive. They will call out to the righteous: "Oh Muslim, Oh servant of God, here is a Jew hiding behind me. Come here and kill him."
Students also said they are taught "it is better to shun and even to dislike Christians, Jews and Shiite Muslims." Furthermore, students learn, it is okay to hurt or steal from a non-Muslim.
The Saudi-supplied textbooks at this and other Wahhabi schools state that Muslims are obliged to consider all infidels the enemy. Certain enemies are not even acknowledged in geography class. Wahhabi schools in America are notorious for doctoring maps of the Middle East, and hanging them in classrooms - with Israel blotted out.

According to the Washington Post and reprinted in the NY Times, he attended the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria Virginia. While family and friends feign that he is the victim of anti-Muslim discrimination, the Jawa Report can reveal that the school in question follows the radical Wahhabi curriculum of the Saudi Ministry of Education. Until recent protest by the US goverment, this curriculum has included anti-Semetic and anti-Christian bigotry and overt calls to jihad. Thus Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is likely to be an ideologue who actually believed what he was taught at school
