Abu Ali Pleads Not Guilty to Bush Assassination Plot

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the Virginian man linked to an al Qaeda plot to assassinate President Bush has plead 'not guilty' to all six counts in a Federal indictment.

Abu Ali was valedictorian at a Saudi funded Wahhabist high school in Alexandria, VA. The alleged terrorist also attended and taught at a mosque with ties to The Muslim Brotherhood, a group dedicated to the imposition of Islamic law and the return of the caliphate. ABC News first runs this AP story by repeating the claim that Abu Ali was 'valedictorian' without noting that the high school is run by the Saudi government and which had a Wahhabi curriculem at the time Ali attended. Then they note:

Prosecutors allege that Abu Ali discussed numerous terrorist acts with other al-Qaida members, including a plan in which he would either shoot Bush or detonate a car bomb.

Other alleged discussions included a Sept. 11-style attack in which airplanes would be hijacked from the United Kingdom or Australia and flown to targets in the United States.

An FBI agent testified that Abu Ali admitted his guilt multiple times in interviews with Saudi and American authorities, but Abu Ali's lawyers say the government's evidence was obtained through torture and that they have seen the scars on Abu Ali's back from the beatings he endured while in Saudi custody.

Lawyers for Abu Ali filed a motion seeking medical and psychological evaluations that they contend will support his claim that he was tortured. U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee said he would schedule a hearing as soon as Friday on the defense motion.

Abu Ali's lawyer Ashraf Nubani pressed for a May 4 trial, arguing the August trial date would violate federal speedy trial rules and said the government wanted the additional time to "concoct its case."

Prosecutors said they needed a later trial date because of the complexity of the case.

The counts against Abu Ali include two counts of conspiring conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, two counts of providing material support to terrorists, one count of contributing services to al-Qaida and one count of receiving funds and services from al-Qaida.

CNN notes:
Abu Ali, 23, stood silently in a green prison jump suit as his attorney entered the plea on his behalf and requested a trial by jury rather than by a judge.
Silent? He must be innocent! Many of Abu Ali's defenders note how soft-spoken the man is so he couldn't be a terrorist. As if there is some sort of relationship between how loud one is and his support for terrorism. I advise watching one of bin Laden's tapes for a clue. CNN then goes on to describe Shaker El Sayed as "a local Muslim leader":

Shaker El Sayed, a local Muslim leader and Abu Ali family friend, told reporters the case against Abu Ali was based on a confession to Saudi authorities he termed "laughable."

"They didn't have the evidence. They don't have the evidence. The fishing expedition continues," he said.

They fail to mention that El Sayed was a leader at a radical salafi mosque with ties to convicted terrorists. A radical mosque supported by the Muslim Brotherhood. A mosque that teaches women to put on the veil, as Ali's mother does.

This is a man that calls US action in Iraq 'terrorism' and in this essay attempts to discredit the 9/11 acts but supports terroristic attacks that he approves of:

First, Jihad as war ought to be conducted by the state that has the authority to wage war and declare war; but terrorism can be conducted by a state like that in the case of ..... United States against the innocent Iraqi people. This is a state imposed type of terrorism that is uncalled for....

War is justified to respond to aggression or to protect the weak and the meek as we mentioned or to fight against occupation to protect your homeland or to fight injustices committed by any. You have to fight injustices by all means using least force as needed first and if this doesnÂ’t repel then you use extra force as needed.

Reuters also passes on this piece of misinformation in an attempt to paint Abu Ali in a positive light:
Abu Ali, then a student at a Saudi university, was arrested by Saudi officials on June 9, 2003, and held in Riyadh for 20 months until his return to Virginia last month after a federal grand jury indicted him.
As if what Abu Ali was studying and where he was studying is of no consequence. Ali was studying Islam in Mecca at the time of his arrest. He wasn't there in a peace studies program or preparing to take his GRE.

1 "mosque that teaches women to put on the veil" Gasp! "Ali was studying Islam in Mecca at the time of his arrest" Wow amazing evidence! 2 I had to laugh when you mentioned the tone of Bin Laden's voice as compared to this guy. Now I know we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of just about anything but do we have to have freedom of Wahhabists and Sharia Law? That's not freedom at all. In relation to this school, they take away our freedom to live, so is that really freedom? It certainly does not take away my fears of having terrorist anywhere in our country when they're going to these special schoolsl Why are we letting them funtion at all? Sorry, but their freedoms should be discarded and our freedoms kept free. Cindy

3 Sonic. Perhaps you should click through the links at the bottom of the post. There is a reason jihadis do what they do, they are taught it. Abu Ali was indoctrinated growing up. To feign surprise, shock, and outrage that he has been arrested is duplicitious at best.

4 Got him going both ways eh Rusty, if he admits it, well he is guilty, if he denies hit, ah thats how jihadis are trained he must be guilty. heard of a witchunt?

5 Yes, I have. And that is relevant because...???

6 Oh, wait, I get it. Muslims are automatically 'not guilty' because, you know, Islam IS the Religion of Peace and all that......

7 Innocent until proven guilty, or is that an un-American concept these days?

Posted by: sonic at March 14, 2005 04:40 PM (Gsn6c)

8 "Guilty until proven innocent" is a bit harsh. I'm willing to go with "deported until proven innocent."

9 Innocent IN COURT until proven guilty. This, as you know, is not a court.

12 ""Guilty until proven innocent" is a bit harsh. I'm willing to go with "deported until proven innocent."" Why should we deport US citizens?

15 Sonic must have a learning disability,The Jihadis' want us dead or converted to Islam(that peaceful religion). That means they want me dead.Accoording to Sonic we should just ignore these people, like they are the loony uncle down the hall.Get on with our lives,go shopping and then WHAM a bomb goes off killing thousands...yeah good idea.

16 Why deport US citizens. Because in their hearts they are not US citizens. They are not Americans. They only use citizenship as a ploy. They don't live the part. They don't act the part. They don't look the part. They cannot be trusted to place America's interests before their religion. Because we made a horrible mistake by letting them into this country. The way to correct that mistake is deport them out of this country. Muslims cannot live side by side with civilized religions. Check out the entire world. They create problems where ever they go. We have enough problems already. Even if some are good people they spawn the terrorists. The terrorists come from members of this backward assed religion. If they moved here and did not practice this religion then OK. But thats not the case is it? Members of Islam should not be allowed to immigrate to this country that was founded on Christian principles. It will not work. Take a look at Asia, Africa, Europe. What makes anyone think it will work here when it hasn't worked anywhere else. Pure foolishness. And who the hell thinks we need more people. The founders of this country were not thinking of ragheads when they wrote the constitution. Muslims were not a group that our founding fathers considered when this country was founded. Islam out of America. In fact I believe it should be illegal to practice Islam in America.
