Pictures of Key West During and After Wilma

These photos of Wilma's devastation are courtesy of a friend who stayed on the island during the storm, for want of better judgment. The pictures are of a place that people who have been to Key West might know--a local eatery called Louie's Back Yard--together with an absolutely awesome picture from my friend's balcony during the storm surge.

My neice was a waitress there. One could sit on the deck, sipping something stronger than cola next to a huge Banyan tree, to watch the ships sail in and out of the channel at dusk:

Israel vs Islamic Jihad.

FOXNEWS: Israeli forces encircled a house in the West Bank town of Qabatiyeh after sundown Sunday in pursuit of two militants linked to a deadly homicide bombing in central Israel last week. The two men opened fire on the troops and tried to flee the house, so the soldiers opened fire and killed them, the army said

Iranian opposition calls Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a Moron. Ok so I can agree with that.

FOXNEWS:Ahmadinejad's remarks harmed Iran. It was irresponsible and illogical," said Rajabali Mazrouei, a prominent reformer and former deputy. "We can't be more extremist than Palestinians themselves".

Paris Riots Continue. Nope Jihad Watch is not down.

UN Security Council passes resolution against Iran.

CNN:The resolution is under Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which holds open the ultimate possibility of the Security Council considering the use of force with failure to comply. Speaking in Monday's meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the resolution "made it clear that failure to comply with these demands will lead to serious consequences from the international community." She called the Chapter 7 resolution "the only way to compel the Syrians" to cooperate

Yahoo trolls Howie to click on this with the title “Iraqi VP’s Brother Killed”. Actually it was a bunch of MSM whiny crap.

Scary!!

Califonia Conservative: a mighty coalition consisting of Jacques Chirac, Gerhardt Schroeder, George Galloway, Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, Sean Penn and Martin Sheen, all led by the U.N.’s Kofi Annan, would’ve written some very forceful correspondence using the strongest language known to diplomacy — maybe even produced an accompanying music video.

Really Scary.

Dear readers, itÂ’s a time to puke.

New Delhi Bombings - Update

(New Delhi) The number of dead from yesterday's three near-simultaneous bombings at locations (map) in New Delhi has grown to over 60 with around 200 injured, some seriously. Investigators have detained over 20 suspects in raids of small hotels around New Delhi. It is now known that two of the bombs exploded amid large shopping crowds at Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar. The third bomb, however, was on a bus at the market of Govindpuri.

Police said they were looking for a man in his 20s who refused to buy a ticket on a bus and got off in the Govindpuri neighbourhood, leaving behind a large black bag. When some of the 40 passengers raised an alarm, the driver and bus conductor examined it and threw it out just as the blast occurred, injuring them both.
The media are in almost universal agreement that those responsible belong to a little-known small terrorist group.
A man saying he represented the terrorist group "Islamic Inquilab Mahaz," or "Front for Islamic Uprising," took responsibility for the bombings in a call to the Kashmir News Service in Jammu and Kashmir. The little-known group is tied to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, the most feared terrorist group in Kashmir, police said.

The caller, who identified himself as Ahmed Yaar Ghaznavi, said the attack "was meant as a rebuff to the claims of Indian security groups" that terrorist fighters had been wiped out by military crackdowns and the October 8 South Asian earthquake.

Not everyone, though, agrees that Islamic Inquilab Mahaz (IIM) is a little known group as indicated by this report from The Times of India.
The group that has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s serial blasts in Delhi -- Islami Inqilabi Mahaz -- is neither unknown nor unfamiliar in India. According to terrorism analyst Ajai Sahni, it is just another name for Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is based in Pakistan under the influence of ISI and is the best known successor organisation of Al-Qaida.
The ISI is Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence agency. A rogue element in the Pakistani government, ISI has strong links to Wahabism and radical Islamic political and military groups. Even so, a Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman stated that "the attack in a crowded market place is a criminal act of terrorism."

From the Mumbai Mirror:

A day after the deadly blasts shook the Capital, the security brass indicated it had reasons to believe it was the handiwork of familiar jehadi module -- Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence operatives.

[ ... ]

Notwithstanding Islamabad's prompt denouncement of Delhi's serial blast, the government agencies said they have compelling evidence to prove that ISI modules are working with official Pak patronage. "We had the information that three or four modules -- each module consisting of a group three or four men -- had entered the country some time ago."

A massive search and destroy effort was undertaken to stop the ISI modules. Unfortunately, the effort hasn't been entirely successful.

Although the investigations of the bombings in New Delhi are ongoing, I believe some certainties have surfaced:

- The bombings were terrorist acts by a radical Islamic group,
- The Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency is linked to the bombings,
- The ISI wields power largely independent of President Musharraf,
- The Indians are restless and expect a forceful government response, and
- By calling the group responsible for the bombings as 'little-known' or 'unknown,' the media demonstrate that they didn't do their homework.
In a directly-related development, the trial of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, believed to be a triggering circumstance for the New Delhi bombings, has concluded. Ashfaq was sentenced to death by a Delhi court.

A Long Time Ago, In A France Far, Far, Away

France wasn't always filled with cheese eating surrender monkeys.

In October of 732, Charles Martel ("The Hammer") and his Frankish horde stopped cold the onrushing cavalry of Allah's finest, halting Islam's desire to break out from Spain and subjugate the rest of Europe.

Creasy argues also that the Martel victory "preserved the relics of ancient and the germs of modern civilizations ." That is, in a Moslem Dominion, the ferment of the Middle Ages, which sparked the Enlightenment with all of its scientific, economic, and political fruits, would never have occurred. Look at the modern Islamic world: backward, unfree, poor--in sad fact, scarcely modern at all. This could be the state of all humankind if not for a Europe where, as Strauss notes, "church and state were [often] at loggerheads," helping form a culture that was, "compared to Islam, decentralized, secularized, individualistic, profit-driven."

Half-educated Christophobes who think the faith contributed nothing but superstition and inventive torture to the human story should ponder Strauss' words. So should modern zealots who would happily marry church and state.

Without the victory at Tours, there would be no suds-swinging Oktoberfest, no Halloween (because no All Hallows Eve), indeed little fun now or at any other time of the year under a Shari'a, or religious law, not noted for winking at petty vices.

Victor Davis Hanson notes the Battle of Tours, or Poitiers, as he refers to it, as one of the landmark battles in Western civilization in his book "Carnage and Culture."

Pray for Europe. But save a few prayers, too, for a band of bearded, coarse, but faithful men who stood shoulder-to-shoulder in a cold dawn and faced proven death galloping full-speed toward them--only to unhorse that grim rider and break his bones to bits.

Which is to say that if in the next life you can't find the Pearly Gates, just follow the sound of the loud German drinking songs. You'll get to the right place.

So when you're out running around having a fun Halloween, stop for a moment, look up, and thank a Frank.

Goodbye Harriet

Well, I was sympathetic to the Miers nomination for no better reason, really, than that it brought back my youth a bit. But to be honest, except for the fact that I was young my youth wasn't especially noteworthy. The decision made here is going to be between one guided by cronyism (or loyalty/friendship, to put it in a softer light) and outright elitism. Harriet was probably a 700 or so on the scale of logic, but not much more than a 500 in verbal ability, so she's tanglefooted. The next nominee will be at least a 700 in both verbal and logic/math, which is a good thing for the country. But at that level bear in mind that he/she won't be very cognizant of the common weal. Said nominee will have been in special classes from the time he (it will be a "he") learned to read, and may not have actually bought a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk in quite awhile. Sobeit; it's the very essence of the Jeffersonian ideal whereby the country is informed and led by a meritocracy composed of exceptional leaders and scholars emerging from the mass of humanity.

It is, a turning point.

Wisdom, Hope I Get Some One Day.

Just so you know how I end up where I end up despite being frightfully human and imperfect. I read lots of stuff and post lots too. I've not read anything better than this all week.

Ecc Chap 9 start vs 9:Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

No one knows what tomorrow will be for any of us. Today I will drink the wine of my labor and see and visit with the family. It is the labors of life and the time spent laughing with friends and family, these are the true gifts of life that have been given to us. Tomorrow any man including myself may find himself as a blade of grass or he may be allowed to take joy in the vanity of his labor and see the sun once more. Be both confident and humble, live for today and do the best you can. You will succeed and fail both equal gifts in the long road to wisdom.

Chap 3 11 – 15 :He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

Updated: In other words I have no idea. Chance most likely.

Christian Schoolgirls Beheaded

(Poso, Indonesia) Three Christian girls walking to school were beheaded earlier today by men in black clothes and masks near the Muslim town of Poso. The town lies about 1,000 miles northeast of Jakarta and is in a region of considerable Muslim-Christian strife. This story makes me sick.

From TheStar.com:

National police spokesman Aryanto Budiharjo said up to six men in black clothes and masks attacked the students in Bukit Bambu village, on the eastern island of Sulawesi.

"The perpetrators wore black attire and veils and they used machetes to slash (the victims)," he told reporters in Jakarta.

The three headless bodies of the high school students, dressed in brown uniforms, were left at the site of the attack. Three heads were found at separate locations two hours later by residents.

Earlier, a police official in Poso gave a different account, saying two men wearing helmets on a motorcycle attacked the 16-year-old students.

He said the student who escaped said the attackers wore helmets and carried a two-way radio.

The killings have been condemned by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who called the murders "sadist and inhuman crimes."

Bomb Blasts in New Delhi, Scores Killed

(New Delhi, India) Three powerful bombs were detonated today in crowded shopping areas (map) of the capital city. The first blast occurred about 5:40pm IST at the main market in Paharganj, a popular meeting area for foreign tourists and backpackers. Another explosion followed in Sarojini Nagar, a busy shopping area popular among the middle class and foreigners. Soon after, the teeming market of Govindpuri was attacked. Police, fire brigades, bomb disposal teams, and anti-terror squads rushed to the scene as the whole city was placed on security alert.

Thus far, reports on the number of casualties have been sketchy. The dead and injured are expected to be numerous. Most places were unusually crowded due to the upcoming Diwali festival, a major Hindu holiday during which families exchange gifts, light candles and celebrate with fireworks.

It's unclear who is responsible for the blasts, but Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal stated that the attacks were "handiwork of those who were backed by anti-India elements."

"From preliminary observations, it can be said the explosives were kept in a cycle rickshaw or a motorcycle. At least 40 are injured and six to eight people have expired," Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul told reporters in Paharganj.
According to Home Secretary V.K. Duggal, an alert was sounded in all states for possible terrorist attacks during the Diwali season.

The Guardian reports that a bus was bombed in addition to the shopping areas.

Rediff India reports that 50 people are dead and 70 are injured. Also, the blasts are suspected to be the handiwork of banned Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit.

HindustanTimes.com reports that:

- 48 are confirmed dead,
- Police raid hotels in Paharganj,
- Home Ministry says RDX was used in blasts,
- Two suspects arrested at New Delhi Railway Station,
- Blasts being blamed on an intelligence failure.
A top advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that the bombings were surely the work of terrorists but which group is unknown at present. Opposition from numerous terrorist groups constantly faces India. From fringe organizations to militarized Kashmiri rebels, India has its enemies.

AP Mocks Possible Libby Defense

From the Associated Press via Yahoo!News:

WASHINGTON - The lawyer for Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide is outlining a possible criminal defense that is a time-honored tradition in Washington scandals: A busy official immersed in important duties cannot reasonably be expected to remember details of long-ago conversations.
This story will undoubtedly cause hoots of derision in the Lefty camp.

Having once been interrogated by a former FBI agent and his partner regarding suspected union activity while in federal employ (they were on the wrong track, but that's a different story that I'm not at liberty to discuss), I can speak to some of the techniques possibly used. I can't tell you if these are standard FBI interrogation techniques, but people usually revert to their training, even when in new positions. more...

Dear President Amalamaramalamadingdong or whatever your name is, of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Permit me to release 25 years worth of pent up rage and frustration by saying:

I believe the Islamic Republic of Iran must be wiped off the face of the Earth.

Apologies to the majority of Iranian citizens who are pro-American, perhaps we can work together to just wipe your government from the face of the Earth.

A Quick Look At The Indictment

I just got done listening to Fitzgerald's press conference.

I believe that in addition to Scooter Libby, the following people should be forced to resign in the wake of this scandal:

Ari Fleischer
John Ashcroft
Colin Powell
Paul O'Neill
My mailman
The grumpy lady at the social security office
The entire staff of the Internal Revenue Service

One final thought. Now that he has copious amounts of free time, perhaps Mr. Libby can track down the person who nicknamed him "Scooter" and kick his ass.

Ok, I gotta go back to work now.

UPDATE:

Howie says his parents nicknamed him. Well then, that explains how he turned into such a hardened criminal.

And while we're on the subject, I must announce that I am asking Rusty to refer to a special prosecutor in order to investigate WHO LEAKED MY EMAIL TO FILTHY ALLAH! Who, btw, is cooking beef stew today.

Forbes Calls Bloggers Dangerous.

ItÂ’s official blogs have graduated from the interesting oddity of the day to a real threat to established power. The first indication is Denny Hastert has started a blog. Now Forbes Magazine has taken notice. Yes blogger power is uncontrolled, untamed. No matter left or right ordinary people are not supposed to be able to speak. It bucks the system and the system wants control. This is not a left or right issue it is a freedom issue.

I've one thing to say here: Well F*ck you very much Forbes!!!

Others: Micropersuasion, La Shawn BarberÂ’s Corner and Damianpenny.

Below I will list my qualifications to post here. If you are not taking part in the greatest revolution in speech since the US constitution, better get with it. The powers that be donÂ’t like it. It will not be Denny they will want to silence.
