The revolution that should have been

Congratulations.

4th July - fireworks, food and fun.

Congratulations on the result of a revolution that some of us Brits think ought to have happened here as well. So, for British 'subjects' like me looking to join in the fun, can I recommend Jonathan Freedland's excellent book "Bring Home the Revolution: The Case for a British Republic" :-)

"...the spirit that inspires the American secret is actually our own -- a British revolutionary fervour mislaid across the Atlantic. This is what has made America the diverse, freedom-loving, self-sufficient, independent icon to the world: the place where socialism never took hold because it is inherent in the founding vision, where capitalism at the same time has reached its apogee; where many cultures contribute to the national fabric and yet the sense of belonging to the nation and reverence for its symbols is unmatched across the globe. It's time Britain shared the vitality: time to reclaim the revolution and bring it home."

Have a fun day, I'll be in the office :-(

America's #1 Enemy, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Dead

zarqawi_dead.jpg
Al Qaeda in Iraq's leader, Abu Musab al Zarqawi is dead! This post to be updated throughout the day.

[Right: An image of the dead al Zarqawi from Howie]

Vinnie's original report on Zarqawi's death. Demosophist: The Jeb Stuart al Zarqawi connection.

Today is one of the happiest days of my life. When I heard the news, I literally started crying.

To quote myself: Ding dong, the bitch is dead!!! Update: Great minds think alike.

Long-time readers know that The Jawa Report has had a personal grudge against al Zarqawi. Zarqawi first appeared on our radar screen when he was the leader of Tawhid and Jihad and began producing beheading snuff films distributed on the internet.

It was the murder of Nick Berg by Zarqawi, more than anything else, that set The Jawa Report on its present path. Seeing Nick Berg being murdered by al Zarqawi caused a reaction in my that is difficult to describe. It angered me. It made the war on terror personal. It made killing Zarqawi a personal goal for me.

In fact, over the past year or so not a single day has gone by when I have not fantasized that Zarqawi was either dead or captured. Today, my dream has come true!

Flashback: Nick Berg Gave Password to Terrorist

Log-time reader and hostage watcher George: Nick Berg and Eugene Armstrong's killer has finally died. I would have prefered he be beheaded but at least he's dead. Nick and Eugene are smiling from above. I am sure of that. Maybe now we'll finally get Bin Laden. I have more hope now. I always knew we would get Zarqawi since he was in Iraq. Today is a good day Rusty. RIP Nick and Eugene.

Amen!

Report from Baghdad on Iraqi reaction:

Mid-morning local time the news broke, Abu Musab al Zarqawi has been killed. The celebrations on the street and the cheers at the press conference announcing this news may seem odd to some in the comfortable confines of the west. While a BBC reporter today referred to al Zarqawi as a “controversial leader of the resistance” the reaction among most Iraqis lacks such nuance, they are glad for one simple reason, al Zarqawi is dead.

The reactions among Iraqis to the death of al Zarqawi is quite different than that to the similar demise of Uday and Qusay. The deaths of the brothers Hussein was met with a jumble of emotions among Iraqis in 2003: some saw them as leaders while most saw them as the homicidal maniacs they were. The reaction to the death of al Zarqawi is far more visceral, akin to ridding oneÂ’s house of a menacing rat.

A reserved Sunni intellectual who is quite particular in the language he uses summed up the feeling surrounding al Zarqawi’s death: “Goddamn that motherfucker for what he has done to Iraq.”

More reaction from Iraq: CONGRATULATIONS TO IRAQ, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHOLE WORLD ON THIS VICTORY.

The death came courtesy of Task Force 145.

Zarqawi Air-strike video
.

Video of al-Maliki announcing it.

Zarqawi family reacts:

The husband [of one of Zarqawi’s sisters], who identified himself as Abu Qudama, said: “We’re not sad that he’s dead.”

“To the contrary, we’re happy because he’s a martyr and he’s now in heaven,” added the man, who said he lost one of his legs fighting Russian forces in Afghanistan as part of the Islamic Mujahedein.

According to CENTCOM, one of Zarqwi's key lieutenants was also killed in the raid, spiritual advisor Sheik Abd-Al-Rahman.

Reaction from the Left. Cut-and-run. And more. More Lefty 'elation'.

Nick Berg's father feels no relief that son's murderer killed. More from the 'peace dad'.

More insanity from Mr. Berg: Zarqawi's death will foster anti-American resentment among Al Qaeda members

zarqawi_dead2.jpg

Image before it was cleaned up via Michelle who has a roundup of her own.

How is Haditha related to Zarqawi's death? Because pro-insurgent forces love to lie about each and every incident in which someone in Iraq is killed. For instance, Lawrence at Is Full of Crap points us to this reaction from a resident of the town in which Zarqawi was killed as reported in the NY Times:

"Zarqawi. Zarqawi. Zarqawi. That's all we hear about. Zarqawi was not here. This home belonged to displaced people,'' said a village resident, holding up a teddy bear and a child's knapsack buried in the destruction.
So, one of the most evil & vile scumbags on the earth is killed and the reaction is....blame the Americans for killing children. See how this works and why we should be skeptical of claims of massacres in Iraq?

Bush on Zarqawi death.

Think Bluto's post about the MSM reaction is overblown? Read this report from the Financial Times. Not only is the importance of the Zarqeermaster's death downplayed, the al-Qaeda link is also questioned.

Right reaction: Beth:

HAHA, you fucking son of a whore, may the maggots in hell choke on the stench of your filthy rotting corpse. Fuck you, you dead piece of less-than-worthless garbage! Let Satan himself and all his pet goats skull-fuck you until your ugly fucked up head pops off. 72 virgins? Heh. Virgin leper hogs, maybe.
Somewhere in Hell there will be 72 very sore sheep tonight

Welcome to hell, Abu, you goat-raping half-a-man.

Hot damn, pizzas for everyone!

Good News.

The elimination of Zarqawi and his henchmen will kneecap the foreign insurgency.

See-Dub: I guess that machine gun he was working so hard at firing didnÂ’t come in to handy, now, did it?

Rest in pieces Zarqawi.

Jordan Captures “Senior” al-Qaeda Leader

We have no word yet on who this subject is but they plan to put him on TV in Jordan this evening. That should be soon our time.

News 24 Amman: Jordan has arrested a senior member of the al-Qaeda in Iraq militant group, a senior official said on Monday.

"The Jordanian intelligence services have arrested an important figure in the al-Qaeda in Iraq organisation led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his testimony will be broadcast by Jordanian television on Tuesday evening," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The official declined to elaborate on the identity of the detainee or the manner of his capture.

But another Jordanian official hailed the suspect's arrest as "one of the most important foreign operations ever carried out by the Jordanian intelligence services".

You know what IÂ’m hoping, probably not Muscab though. DevelopingÂ….

Update: FOXNEWS is reporting the identity of the terrorist.

The Iraqi, Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly, was detained by Jordanian intelligence agents and special anti-terrorism forces, according to a government announcement on Jordanian TV.
It said he worked as a customs clearing agent on Iraq's border with Jordan, where he handled stolen goods under direct orders from Al Qaeda in Iraq leadersÂ…

Â…It also broadcast his confession, in which he admitted to being a member of Al Qaeda in Iraq and gave details of some attempts to attack Jordanian citizens, including truck drivers on routes between Iraq and the kingdom.

Not as good as Muscab, but we'll take what we can get.

I hope so Daddyo. Also Bill Roggio cuts through the fog of war to reveal the massive offensive was a massive loss for the Taliban.

UAE diplomat Naji al-Noaimi. Released

Good News!

Yahoo News :His brother, Mohammed al-Nuaimi, said the family had been told by the government that he was free, but they did not know how his release came about.

"The officials just told us that he was released and he was on his way to the embassy," al-Nuaimi said from his home in Dibba, a town in the southern Emirates.

"We have no details on how he has been released."

It could be insurgent leaders were uncomfortable with these illegal terror tactics. Still does not excuse taking him to start with. I like it when it ends this way ,especially after only three days. Reports are no demands (at least the public ones) were met.

Related.

Update 18:51 CDT : Still no confirmation he has arrived safely.

Update 05/20 : Still no confirmation. We pray we have it soon. It seems there has been a snag develop.

NDTV : The government declined to comment on the reported release, but the official news agency WAM reported that the UAE charge d'affairs in Baghdad, Ali Seif al-Kaabi, had returned home to brief the Foreign Ministry on the latest developments in the kidnapping.

In Baghdad, Lt Col Falah al-Mohamedawi of the Iraqi Interior Ministry said the government has imposed an official blackout on news of any prospective release of the UAE diplomat

Surviving Beslan Terrorist Sentenced to Die

He won’t be surviving very long if a “moratorium" on executions is lifted. Nurpashi Kulayev was sentenced to die for his role in the siege of school which ended in the deaths of the rest of the terrorists and 300+ school children and teachers. At the very least he will rot for the rest of his life.

Euronews: The only man charged over the Beslan school siege two years ago has been found guilty and could face the death penalty. Reading out the sentence, the Russian judge said Nurpashi Kulayev had committed murder and attempted murder, taken part in a bandit group, taken hostages and illegally stored and transported weapons.

An official moratorium on the death penalty is in place.

However Deputy Attorney General Nikolai Shepel said he had asked for the highest punishment, the death penalty, but that he would not comment further and would wait for the court to decide.

A total of 330 people were killed when a group of gunmen, including suspected Chechen separatists, took over a school in Beslan on the first day of term. The other hostage-takers were killed in a shoot-out with Russian security forces.

Life the moratorium and place a moratorium on this manÂ’s life ASAP. This is one of the most heinous examples of what Islamic terrorism really means.

German Hostages Rene Braeunlich and Thomas Nitzschke Freed

Good news indeed! These men were last seen in a terrorist video released on January 27th. The terrorist group called Tawhid and Sunnah brigade had threatened to kill them unless Germany met their demands which were that Germany cut off all diplomatic and trading ties with the new Iraqi government.

Reuters via Alertnet :The two men were abducted on Jan. 24 outside their workplace in the industrial town of Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad. Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said they had been freed without warning and appeared to be unharmed.

"I am very pleased to inform you that the two kidnapped men from Leipzig, Rene Braeunlich and Thomas Nitzschke, have been freed today," Steinmeier said in a statement. He said the men, being looked after in Germany's embassy in Baghdad, were expected to return home on Wednesday.

"After spending more than three months under inhumane conditions they are in German care," added Steinmeier, who was on an official visit to Chile.

Since the kidnapping, hundreds of people had gathered in their hometown of Leipzig, eastern Germany, for weekly vigils, placing flowers and lighting candles.

Rusty said in his January 27th post, “We pray for their speedy release.” Our prayers and the prayers of these men’s families and of the German people have been answered. And may they have a safe and speedy journey back to Germany to their loved ones.

Additional background here and here.

Update : Braeunlich and Nitzschke have arrived in Germany and have given a brief statement. The German government refused to release details on how their release was secured.

ABCNEWS : "We are very happy to still be alive, which we don't take for granted," Nitzschke said.

"I am happy to be back home," Braeunlich said. "We had a difficult time."

After their statements, they boarded a minivan that government officials said would take them to a private reunion with their families.

The pair were released Tuesday after being held hostage since Jan. 24. The Foreign Ministry declined to provide details on how the pair were freed including whether a ransom was paid citing safety reasons.

Sounds like they may have paid a ransom. I hope not. The release could be a product of ongoing negitiations between the Iraqi government and some insurgent groups. more...

Canadians Stomp Taliban

Ealier today I had this link saying coalition forces stomped 20 Taliban into the ground.

Guardian UK : KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) - Coalition forces killed between 15 and 20 militants in fighting over the weekend in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, the U.S. military said Monday.

A coalition patrol on Saturday attacked militants carrying assault rifles and grenade launchers, who were ``moving with the intent to set up an ambush'' in the province's Sangin district, a military statement said.
No coalition forces were hurt, it said.

This afternoon I have more detail, it was the Canadians who spotted and destroyed this Taliban unit.
Reuters :"Our convoy using night-vision optics on their vehicle were able to see three vehicles preparing for an ambush," Canadian spokesman Major Marc Theriault said of the Saturday night clash.

The convoy was travelling to a remote base in the Sangin district of Helmand province when the insurgents were spotted, he said.

Canadian forces attacked and destroyed the three vehicles which contained 15 to 20 insurgents, he said. No Canadians were hurt.

Go Canada and thanks for the help. Can you just imagine the Tailban commander. You mean Candians killed all our men? Surley Allah has forsaken us now. You bet he has Mullah Omar! May you eat hot Canadian lead very soon.

Updated : Canadians targeted by the enemy looking for revenge and thankfully none were injured. The terrorists did manage to murder one innocent old man though. Way to go Taliban murderers of helpless old men. Your cowardly method of attack reaps you shame.

Canada.com :KABUL (CP) - Three Canadian coalition members were hit by an improvised explosive device - or roadside bomb - near Kabul on Tuesday, but escaped without injury, the military said.

The unidentified attacker was driving a white car that exploded about 100 metres from the convoy, spraying shrapnel over a wide distance, Parwani said.

Several reports said Canadian soldiers were also involved in that attack, although none were injured.

Hey I'm not surprised the Canadians are tough. I used to watch the lumberjack competition on ABCWWS.

Senior Al-Qaeda Suspect Killed

(Khar, Pakistan) There's strong indication that a close associate of Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed yesterday in a gunfight in northwestern Pakistan. As a reminder, Zawahiri is second in command of al-Qaeda after Osama bin Laden.

From Aljazeera.net:

The suspect, thought to be Saudi-born Abu Marwan al-Suri, was killed on Thursday close to the Afghan border.

Major-General Shaukat Sultan, the Pakistan army spokesman, said al-Suri was in a vehicle on the outskirts of Khar, a town near the Bajur tribal region.

Al-Suri opened fire when he was asked to stop his vehicle at a roadblock. He killed a Pakistani security official and wounded two others before he himself was killed.

His body has been transported to a hospital in the city of Peshawar for identification.

Seized from al-Suri's vehicle were a video camera, a laptop computer, hand grenades and some documents. However, according to a Pakistani intelligence officer, al-Suri is probably not the man's real name. Nonetheless, since al-Suri was so closely associated with al-Qaeda leadership, I tend toward the thought that his elimination means the perimeter around bin Laden is tightening.

Egypt Breaks Terror Cell

Twenty two more “insane people” were picked up in Egypt this week. It appears they were planning to you know blow shit up. Like pipelines and Christians and Muslims that you know disagree with them.

VOA :The Interior Ministry says the secretive organization called itself the Victorious Sect, and its targets included tourist sites, religious leaders, and a natural gas pipeline.

A ministry spokesman, Major General Abdel-Karim, told VOA that all 22 members of the group have been arrested.

He says, this group was planning and organizing to conduct a number of terrorist operations, attacking some economic and tourist targets in greater Cairo. They were also targeting some religious figures, both Muslim and Christian, to create a split in Egyptian society.

The ministry says the secretive organization used code names and was led by a 26-year-old student named Ahmed Mohamed Ali Gabr, also known as Abu Musab. The ministry says his second-in-command is a preacher.

The general says the men used the Internet to research how to make explosives and poisons. He did not say whether they were successful in actually making them.

On Good Friday “insane people” were captured after stabbing Christians while yelling, “There is no god but Allah!” Now on Wednesday a cell of Islamic Radicals is taken down. And they guy calls himself Abu Musab? Coincidence?

Frustrated Zawahiri Risks Detection to Send Email.

ItÂ’s hard hiding in a cave when you are supposed to be in command.

MSNBC :CAIRO - In January 2003, one of the two most wanted men in the world couldn't contain his frustration. From a hiding place probably somewhere in South Asia, he tapped out two lengthy e-mails to a fellow Egyptian who'd been criticizing him in public.

"I beg you, don't stop the Muslim souls who trust your opinions from joining the jihad against the Americans," wrote Ayman al-Zawahiri, deputy leader of al-Qaeda. He fired off the message even though it risked exposing him.

"Let's put it this way: Tensions had been building up between us for a long time," explained the e-mail's recipient, Montasser el-Zayat, a Cairo lawyer who shared a prison cell with Zawahiri in the 1980s and provided this account. "He always thinks he is right, even if he is alone."

Since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Zawahiri has broadcast his views to the world relentlessly. Despite a $25 million price on his head, he has published memoirs, given interviews and recorded a dozen speeches that find their way to the Internet and television. Video of a speech was posted Thursday on a Web site.

Zawahiri's visibility, eclipsing Osama bin Laden's, reminds al-Qaeda's enemies that the network is capable of more attacks. But a closer look at his speeches and writings, and interviews with several longtime associates in radical Islamic circles, suggests another motive: fear of losing his ideological grip over a revolutionary movement he has nurtured for 40 years.

All who have power fear loosing it.
"He's trying to stay in control and give the impression that he's behind everything in the Middle East and everywhere else, fighting against the Americans in Iraq and against Britain in Europe," Rushdi said in an interview. "He is trying to take responsibility as a leader for what is going on in Iraq. But he knows, and everyone knows, that that is not true, that he has nothing to do with anything in Iraq."

Al-Qaeda was founded as a decentralized coalition of Islamic extremists. That structure has complicated efforts by intelligence services to penetrate the network. But the lack of clear chains of command also can make it difficult for leaders to maintain control.

And thatÂ’s a good thing. The lack of control means they will make even more errors than we do. In the long run al-QaedaÂ’s structure (or lack of) may become it's greatest weakness.

Taliban Gets Good Old Fashion A$$ Kicking

In fact 41 Taliban butts were terminated. They had gathered in preparation for an attack. Coalition forces took advantage of the fact they were all on one place made the first move. They of course tried to run but not before we got 41 of em. Now thatÂ’s a swift kick in the hindquarters if I ever saw one.

AP via Yahoo News : "Acting on intelligence reports that Taliban have gathered in Sangisar to plan an attack in Kandahar, we launched this operation Friday and the fighting continued from morning to evening," he said.

Khalid said security forces were pursuing Taliban fighters who fled to a nearby village. He said security forces had seen the bodies of 41 rebels but had only retrieved 11.

AH-64 Apache helicopters provided by coalition forces fired rockets to support Afghan forces on the ground, said U.S. military spokesman Lt. Mike Cody. He declined to comment on casualty figures.

Abu Muscab al-Zarqawi Flees From Iraq

Ok so if he really left I need a new name for him. Since he will be trying to hook up with other terror groups now that he is unemployed I like Muscab (short for mucous scab).

Washington Times : Al Qaeda in Iraq and its presumed leader, Abu Musab Zarqawi, have conceded strategic defeat and are on their way out of the country, a top U.S. military official contended yesterday.

The group's failure to disrupt national elections and a constitutional referendum last year "was a tactical admission by Zarqawi that their strategy had failed," said Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, who commands the XVIII Airborne Corps.

"They no longer view Iraq as fertile ground to establish a caliphate and as a place to conduct international terrorism," he said in an address at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Gen. Vines' statement came as news broke that coalition and Iraqi forces had killed an associate of Osama bin Laden's during an early morning raid near Abu Ghraib about two weeks ago.

Rafid Ibrahim Fattah aka Abu Umar al Kurdi served as a liaison between terrorist networks and was linked to Taliban members in Afghanistan, Pakistani-based extremists and other senior al Qaeda leaders

Gen. Vines said the foreign terrorists had made a strategic mistake when they tried to intimidate and deny Iraqis a way to vote.

"I believe Zarqawi discredited himself with the Iraqi people because of his willingness to slaughter Iraqi people," he said.

If this is true now is the time for the Sunni insurgency to call a cease fire and come to the table. Hey we Republicans may have to and have had to face loosing our majority. So have the Democrats. Get used to it. It does not mean you have lost all your power you just have to work a bit harder. In many respects is easier because you can cast blame when things donÂ’t go well. If the new kinder gentler insurgency really cares about Iraq and the Iraqi people you will start working for a peaceful future now. Iraq has suffered enough! If Saddam or maybe this man has any honor or any concern for the people of Iraq they will call for a stop to the violence now. I doubt they will and if so that just shows how little they care. Are Arabs willing to be less honorable and smart than the Kurds? WeÂ’ll see.

Er uh, I mean Mountain Lion. I know a lady who had several big cats and the cool thing is cougars purr, they really are a great big mean ass kitty. Actually they were very sweet and wanted to play with you. Play with you to death that is.

DEFENSELINK : This operation is helping the government of Afghanistan set the security conditions so democratic processes can take root," said Air Force Maj. Gen. Allen Peck, deputy air component commander for Combined Forces Command Afghanistan. "Our job is to bring airpower to bear on the anti-Afghan forces and support the coalition troops on the ground."

Operations today began with predawn air-and-ground assaults in the Pech River Valley, an area notorious for terrorist activity, Combined Force Command Afghanistan officials said.

Soldiers from 3rd Brigade of the Afghan National Army's 203rd Corps are fighting alongside servicemembers from the coalition's Task Force Spartan, made up of soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division and 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment Marines from Task Force Lava.
More than 2,500 Afghan National Army and coalition forces are involved in the operation.

"We're taking the fight to the terrorists in their own backyard," said Army Command Sgt. Maj. James Redmore of Task Force Spartan. "They gave their victims no sanctuary. They'll receive none from us."

US Embassy Bombing Terrorist Dead

Still they have to scrape up enough of him to make a positive ID.

ABCNEWS :Multiple intelligence sources in Pakistan confirmed to ABC News that they believed Abu Mohsin Musa, also known as Abdul Rahman, had died in the overnight raid.

Rahman was one of the FBI's most wanted men with a $5 million bounty on his head. He was indicted in absentia in a New York court for his alleged involvement in the bombings of the United States embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and Nairobi, Kenya, on Aug. 7, 1998.

Seems to me the thing to do would be after the attack you should secure the area with troops to stop the locals from carrying off the dead but that's just me. More here from Reuters
A Pakistani TV channel reported that an al Qaeda operative, wanted for the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa, was killed, but officials said there was no confirmation.

Cobra helicopter gunships armed with missiles struck just before midnight on Wednesday in Nagar village, six km (four miles) south of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.

Neither Ahmed nor Pakistan's chief military spokesman, Major-General Shaukat Sultan, could confirm whether it was the same man, but a senior military official based in Peshawar said it was likely.

We received a tip that Abdur Rehman al-Misri was hiding there and we conducted the raid. But there is no confirmation as yet about whether he was killed or not," Ahmed said

"There is a strong possibility of him being one of those killed in action last night. But we have no confirmation of that as yet," the official said. "He used to frequent that place."

Atwah allegedly sat on the al Qaeda consultation council that approved the synchronized attacks on the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam that killed 224 people.

So is he dead? We sure as hell hope so.

High Ranking Enemy Captured

Abu Ayman was once a part of SaddamÂ’s intelligence service and his believed to have close ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (Zaqueery)

Times Online : In a statement issued by the Multi-National Force in Iraq, Muhammed Hila Hammad Ubaydi, more widely known as Abu Ayman, was described as a terrorist leader with "close ties" to al-Zarqawi and the prime suspect for the kidnap of Guiliana Sgrena, an Italian journalist who was released last year.
Ayman was seized by Iraqi soldiers in the Al Mahmudiyah neighborhood of southern Baghdad on March 7, according to the statement, but his capture was not made public until his identity was confirmed by DNA tests.

Ayman's capture was the climax of a "determined manhunt" launched after his deputy, a Syrian-born insurgent called Abu Qatada, was seized by coalition soldiers on December 27, US commanders said today.
Qatada was found hiding in a canal in Baghdad and his interrogation "provided critical information that has led to the capture of several of his terrorist associates"

He is blamed for a string of bombings in the Iraqi capital, the assassination of government officials and for attacks on Iraqi and coalition forces. An aide to Saddam Hussein's chief of staff for intelligence, Ayman is thought to have led an extremist group known as the Secret Islamic Army in Babil, a province south of Baghdad.

"Apprehension of a guy like Abu Ayman is gonna help us work our way toward al Zarqawi in just a matter of time,"

I dunno, Zaqueery is a slippery little devil, must be all the astroglide, I sure hope he is caught. Again just because Iraqi intelligence gave Zaqueerboy refuge, a new leg, former regime elements fight with al-Qaeda, and Iraqi intelligence asked for terrorists to attack US interests does not mean Iraq supported terrorism.

Jawapalooza In Sin City

I'll be in Vegas in early June to attend this.

I won't have time to meet any fellow bloggers though. I'll be too busy either listening to the fine roster of speakers or handing out pamphlets to the tourists on the Strip. Although I may take in a show.

Sorry.

Rahman Free and Safe at Last

To update RustyÂ’s post here we have good news. AP is reporting that Abdul is safely out of Afghanistan.

AP via Yahoo :KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan man who had faced the death penalty after converting from Islam to Christianity left Afghanistan Early Wednesday, according to a foreign legal expert closely connected to the case.

The official, who declined to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the case, said Abdul Rahman, 41, had been flown out of Afghanistan, but it was unclear to where.

Italian authorities said Wednesday that they had granted asylum to Rahman, who faced the death penalty for converting to Christianity.
The Italian authorities said Rahman could arrive in Italy as soon as Wednesday.

Now he is reported to have arrived in Italy. Good news indeed. If we work hard we may be able to gain more freedom for Christians in Muslim nations. This man is only one of many who face persecution and death.
""If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."

"No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women."

- Ronald Reagan

Just as correct now as ever. Credit is also due the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict and the nation of Italy for their hard work. Also to Afghanistan for moving one step closer to freedom. more...
