HGTV Is Ruining My Life

Damn you HGTV, you've ruined my life!

Damn you for convincing my wife that home ownership is the essence of being American! Stupid House Hunters.

Damn you for all your lame decorating ideas! Stupid Design on a Dime.

And damn you for making it look simple to remodel a bathroom! Trust me, it's not as easy as it looks. Stupid I Want that Bathroom.

Seriously, if this doesn't start taking less time, I'm going to sue someone.

P.S.--Howie, why hast thou forsaken me?

WTW Be a Grill Commander

Weber grills has been sponsoring a contest amongst the Marines for the best steak grilling Marine in the nation. The top 100 recipes will be in a new cook book on sale for 10 bucks each. The winners will be grilling this week in NYC. Hear that Filthy? Now get down there and get you a steak and few new recipes.

Command of The Gril dot com: In 2005, active duty and reserve Marines at 10 military installations around the country took up their tongs in the ultimate battle of the barbecue. They marinated, seared, and sauced in an all-out battle for top grilling honors. This book showcases the winning recipes from the competition, along with steak recipes from famous former Marines like Lee Trevino and Ed McMahon.

All proceeds from the sale of the book go to charities that support wounded or killed U.S. Marines and their families.

IÂ’ll be firing up my Weber for this Memorial Day weekend. I like my steak fairly rare but hot and smothered in real butter with a dash of salt. How about you?

Jawa on the Radio--I am Carrot Top

I'll be on Hoist the Black Flag Radio today some time after 4:30 P.M. (EST) to discuss the left-leaning tendencies of academia.

Ace tells me I'm in the second slot. In David Letterman terms, that puts me right after the musical act and right before stupid animal tricks. The first slot--the one I call the Angelina Jolie slot--is being filled by Greyhawk. It will be worth tuning in just to see if Greyhawk reacts the same way to me as Angelina Jolie reacts to having to sit on the couch while Carrot Top yammers on about his latest cameo on a straight to video film.

While I can't promise you I'll say anything intelligent or funny, I can promise that I will be more intelligent and funny than Carrot Top.

Which isn't really saying much, but, hey, we all can't be as funny and sophisticated as Margaret Cho or Janeane Garofalo.

UPDATE: It wasn't my two minutes of fame, but at least I got to meet Greyhawk and Smash.

WTW Big Kitty Kitty, Dead Kitty Kitty

I went most of my whole born put together without seeing a Bobcat or Lynx. Grandpa tells me he has only seen a few in his 84 years. They were already very rare where we live in by 30Â’s. But since the reintroduction of turkeys a decade ago their numbers have increased steadily. They support quite a few predators weÂ’ve not seen much of. We have even some reports of the odd cougar the last few years. But the main beneficiary has been the smaller lynx, bobcats and coyotes.

The coyotes look fat and happy and even though the cats are very shy IÂ’ve seen three in the last two years. Found my fourth this weekend just across the road from my house. He had been struck by a car. ItÂ’s a shame, not the way I wanted to find one. On the good side he was a big male not a nursing female. So hopefully old Tom Lynx has some offspring nearby and the next pic I get will be of them. My digicam was down(charge) when I first found him so I did not get the best possible pics. When I found him he was as big as my medium size dog. About 40 lbs, a strong fine well fed animal. Hate to see him hit that way. No I donÂ’t think they are dangerous. DonÂ’t mind a cat or two, keeps down the varmints. But the wildlife here in Bumfuct has been making a comeback. Bald Eagles, Blue Herrons, turkeys and some medium sized predators are more comon. And thatÂ’s nice to know. IÂ’ll put the pics in the extended warning they are not very pretty. Maybe next time I hope. more...

Help Troops Keep It Cool

Found this on Conservative Thinking this morning. Adopt a soldier, help out buying cool scarves for our boys and girls sweating it out in Iraq.

Soldiers Angels We have heard from many deployed troops this week, everyone has the same thing to say,

IT IS HOT!! It is hard to think...

I would like to get cool scarf to every hero on our list, THE TEMPERATURES IN IRAQ ARE WELL OVER 100 DEGREES, and will stay that way till SeptemberÂ….

Â…We have over 12,000 heroes on this fourth deployment.

The scarves cost 1.20 and the shipping is 1.12, about 2.50 ea.
So in order to do this we need 25,000 dollars, not a small feat but these scarves help to keep their brains cool and offers comfort to our heroes.

Drop a picture of Mr. Lincoln and that covers two of our fine soldiers.

Personal note and update below the break.

Carry-on Bag Update: Pork Leather?

Packing update: In response to the many suggestions made by readers here about what I ought to take with me in my carry-on bag, just in case the fit hits the shan, the following thought occured to me:

Do they make a pig-skin leather? Because if they did, that would solve a lot of problems.

Pork dual action strangling /mujahidin repellent belt: check

Patent pig-skin leather 10 eyed steel-toed Dr. Martin's boots / hijacker club: check

Ham wristwatch band, with boomerang action and concealed strangling wires: check

What else am I still missing?

Update by Vinnie

Rusty, all you're missing are these in case you get wounded in battle. Thanks to Beth for that one.
