Bridging the Left-Right Blog Divide

A couple of weeks ago I posted about a study on the influence of blogs in the 2004 election. What was most interesting to me was that The Jawa Report was named 20th most influential conservative blog for that time period. The crux of the report, though, was that left and right leaning blogs rarely communicate with one another. For instance, this site had the distinction of not a single influential left-leaning blog linking to The Jawa Report. Probably because not a single influential left-leaning blog knows The Jawa Report exists!

Simon has a great essay on this divide between left and right and encourages some more civil intra-blogosphere debate. I agree.

Is Inventor of the Internet Censoring The Jawa Report?

I'm *shocked* that the inventor of the internet will be teaming up with fair and unbiased Google to start a new television network. Do you think they'll have any Jawa Report inspired documentaries?

Double Blog Sabbath

Hey all. As you already know I've made a commitment not to blog one day a week. It's a chance to prove to myself that I'm not totally obsessed. It's also a chance for me to spend time with my family and devote some time to more spiritual things---you know, like watching The Simpsons & catching the new King of the Hill.

Anyway, my parents just left town so that's why there were no posts yesterday or today. See y'all tomorrow!

Ghaddafi Plays Peekaboo!

Sorry for the delay. Here are the winners from last weekend's blog sabbath caption contest. This one was by far the hardest to judge.

Traderrob from Exposing the Left: No no, YOUR see no evil, I'm hear no evil and Hosni is speak no evil

Eric from Vince aut Morire: Unaware the camera is still rolling, Moammar, Hosni, and the gang play "Behead the Infidel."

WeaselX: Guess whose finger is in your a**!

And special runner up status for gratuitous use of minor 70s T.V. show characters goes to Buckley F. William of The Nose on Your Face: Unable to find work after the cancellation of the hit t.v. show "Laverne & Shirley", Carmine "The Big Ragoo" Ragusa is reduced to portraying Moammar Qaddafy at Arab League events and children's parties.

Spring Break

This is week 3 of my spring break. Week one was my spring break. Week two was my daughter's spring break. Week three is my mom's spring break (the folks are in town visiting). You'd think with 3 spring breaks you'd think that at least one of them might resemble Ward Churchill's. You'd be wrong.

And speaking of upper-class white revolutionaries pretending to be natives, how does Dr. Stotch make fun of his student with the Che patch without getting fired? Answer.

Blogging Gets you the BIG Media Exposure

Fellow blogger and political scientist James Joyner of OTB will get his two minutes of fame tomorrow by appearing on MSNBC's Connected at 5:15 p.m.(Eastern). May I just say that it will be good to see someone besides evil Glenn Reynold's or Wonkette representing the best of the blogosphere. Seriously, can't the media find someone other than the Puppy Blender host or Ms. Anal to interview?

Also, INDeCent Bill and Jeff 'Cut' Goldstien will be hosting their very own radio show tomorrow at 3 p.m on Right Talk Radio. Their guest will be, hold on while I check....Glenn Freaking Reynolds?!? *sigh*

Might I suggest to Bill and Jeff that Ace is available? He's cut, he's desperate, and he's willing to do anything---if that's what it takes.

UPDATE: Malkin on O'Reilly tonight. You know what would be a good show? Malkin on O'Reilly, but without O'Reilly.

UPDATE II: Rusty Shackleford outed as gay White House reporter, finally gets an invite to speak as authority on blogging. Developing....

Google News Drops 'The Jawa Report' for 'Hate Speech' Violation

I received the following e-mail moments ago from Google News.

Hi Rusty,

Upon recent review, we've found that your site contains hate speech, and we will no longer be including it in Google News. If you can guarantee that your news no longer includes hate speech, we will be happy to re-review the site for inclusion.

Regards,
The Google Team

Needless to say, I am pretty damned ticked.

I challenge Google News to find one instance of 'hate speech' on this site that is not either a case of sarcasm, humor, or a direct quote used in the context of a post that attempts to do just the opposite.

Unless, of course, Google News considers saying bad things about Jew hating anti-semites, fascists who would impose religious law, or those that cut off the heads of innocent civilians hate speech. Cause in my book, that's a good thing.

What can you do to help? Please e-mail Google News. And please, be civil.

Thanks to Blog Father Charles Johnson for the moral support.

UPDATE 3/30: A number of readers noticed that The Jawa Report was not dropped from Google News. However, it seems that it just took Google News a couple of days to finally carry through with their threat. As of today, no new Jawa Report articles are being carried by that service.

The Gay-Outing Terrorists of the Left: The 'Gayjahidiin'

Thanks to the terrorist tactics of the gay-outing left, The Gay Patriot has been silenced. Darleen calls this Leftist jihadism. I think the term gayjahidin is apt.

The tactics used by John Aravosis (Americablog) and Michael Rogers (BlogActive-Raw Story) have become more and more disgusting with time. Recently, we noted in a series of posts that the two have teamed up to 'out' Republican National Committee Chair, Ken Mehlman.

Now, the pair have sunk to an even lower low--if that is possible to imagine. Gay Patriot likened the two to 'terrorists'. What did it get the anonymous gay-blogger? According to Outlet Radio:

According to GayPatriot, who is also a client of mine, Michael Rogers called GayPatriot's place of employment on Friday immediately following the post above and spoke to GayPatriot's secretary and boss. GayPatriot had no idea Rogers would go to such measures and shared with me that both he and his secretary were very upset by the calls but that his boss was understanding.
Rogers excuse for calling Gay Patriot's boss?
Rogers expressed feeling threatened by the post and compared it to posts by anti-abortionists who posted the names of doctors performing them.
That is how threatening people behave, not those that feel threatened.

Rogers later instigated a police investigation and demanded from Gay Patriot's webhost that his site be taken down (check the update).

As Rob at Say Anything puts it:

TheyÂ’re telling us, with their actions, that if youÂ’re gay in this country you can not support the Republican party or any aspect of the political right and if you do support that sort of thing you will be persecuted.
He also points me to Lime Sherbert who was appparently also a victim of the gayjahidin.

Jay Tea over at Wizbang adds:

So, let's sum things up: the attitude of conservatives towards gays is "do whatever the hell you want, just keep it in private. And no, you aren't getting married, so forget about that." The liberals say "we're all for you, we'll give you whatever you want, just so long as you do exactly as we say. Otherwise, we'll fry your faggot asses -- and not in a way you'll like."
The left keeps using that word tolerance. I do not think that word means what they think it means.

Update: Emperor Misha barks in and points me to Lime Sherbert's banner. You can check it out here.

14th?!?!

Thanks to John Hawkins of Right Wing News for naming the Jawa his 14th favorite read. But 14th? Come on, dude. I understand being behind Malkin and Betsy, you wouldn't want to be accused of being gay (not that there's anything wrong with that...), but behind Tim freakin Blair!!! Isn't he, like, one of them foreigners or something? That's just not right......

Money, money, money, money

Tim Worstall is begging readers to do him a solid. Sounds like a plan to me.

On a related note why not check out my fine advertisors from the Blog Ads in left sidebar? Please!!!!

Also, if you see a Google ad to the left that has something to do with Islam, please click it. Any Islamic link will do. Why? Because each time you click the group pays me. I just find that... ironical.

The Jawa Report 20th Most Influential Conservative Blog!?!

Holy freaking schnieke, Batman!!

Tim from Opinion Bug sent me this link to a very academic sounding report. You can download the report here.

Here is the gist of it, as reported by the World Peace Herald:

The study was conducted by Natalie Glance of Intelliseek, a marketing intelligence firm in Cincinnati, and Lada Adamic of HP Labs, the main laboratory for Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, Calif. It showed that of the 1,494 most influential blogs, during the two months leading up to the election, 759 were liberal in worldview, while 735 were conservative. The conservatives, however, showed a "greater tendency" to link to other blogs than did the liberals -- on average 15.1 links per conservative blog to 13.6 for the liberals. That made them more powerful agents of persuasion.

"We've been looking at blogs for about a year," Glance said. "There was some hope that the blogosphere would help bridge the different opinions in America, but what we are seeing is in an election year, it was divisive online and there was a strong tendency for separation of differences."

Conservative blogs apparently were the most influential sites, generating huge flows of traffic to right-leaning news organizations, such as the National Review magazine and Fox News television. The bloggers' links also pushed up the readership numbers for publications such as The New York Post, The Wall Street Journal's online Opinion Journal and The Washington Times, Glance said.
Ok. So far so good. The astounding thing, though, was that the report listed The Jawa Report as the 20th most influential conservative blog!!

*gasp*

Are you kidding me?

*reality check*

No freaking way?

*double check report*

Simply un-freaking-believable.

*clears throat*

Well, you can't argue with science, can you?

Anyway, the most interesting factoid in the report, as far as The Jawa Report is concerned, is that among the top 20 most influential blogs, My Pet Jawa is linked by precisely 0 liberal blogs. Dean Esmay, #19, is at least linked by 8 and Captain Ed, #6, by 5.

The only one that even comes close is the now nearly defunct Allah, #11, who only has 2 links by liberals to him. J-O-O's, I'm sure.

I don't know whether to wear that as a badge of honor, or what?

Anyway, no time for a more thorough analysis. I'll get around to that later.

In the meantime I'll try to make sure this doesn't go to my head.

Bitches.....

Jawa Report is, Little Green Footballs is not

My blogfather, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, is NOT a Google News source. The site you are now reading, The Jawa Report, is......kind of makes you wonder, eh?

Instapundit, is not. Guerrilla News Network is.

Roger L. Simon is not. Howard Zinn's ZMag is.

Please recommend Little Green Footballs to be a Google News Source here.

If not for the children, do it because it'll chap Cousin Ollie's arse.

Happy Birthday Jane

Most bloggers celebrate their blogoversary with silly linkdrops, shout outs, and reminiscings. Jane Novak of Armies of Liberation celebrates hers by making us aware of a worthy cause that seems to have tragically failed. Go visit Jane now. How many other bloggers can you say are in contact with jailed dissidents in the Middle East?
