I'm fooling around with my site's look. Trying to add a right sidebar. So if it looks funky, excuse the mess.
In the meantime, check out Allah. Man, I gots to get a copy of photoshop! Kevin also has the goods on NBC's terrorism pranks. Perhaps GE's wholly owned subsidiary has been taking cues from Benjamin Vanderford?

3 Fav Blogs, Jawalaunch
It's called killing two birds with one stone. This weeks favorite blogs:
1) Brian B's Momento Moron
2) Johnny Walker Red's Right-On-Red
3) Gordon's The Cranky Neocon
Why these blogs? All are frequent guests here at MPJ. Hits are thicker than water. All three also have the funny--something in short supply these days. Don't believe me? Check out Gordon's Reiner-o-meter (although, I must interject that since Uncle Shackleord had some hand in Stand By Me some adjustments are in order). Johnny always has some great take on important events. And Brian? Fuhget about it!
Linked with Patriot Paradox's Link Carnival. If you would like to link to this weeks Carnival, simply follow the intstructions at this post.

Michael Moore On Goss Appointment
"Now that
Michael Moore has spoken, I've decided to withdraw my support for Porter Goss as CIA director," says Bush clone in alternate parallel Universe:
"You'd think the person who was the head of the intelligence committee would ask a few more questions," said Moore.
"The reality is that Porter Goss was in charge of the oversight of the CIA during a time when the CIA didn't do its job, which in part resulted in the loss of lives of 3,000 people," he said via telephone from New York.

Geez, Mikey, do you comprehend the difference in qualifications between a field agent and the director?
And Michael Moore commenting on intelligence is like Michael Moore commenting on diets.

Don Henley Must Die
Mojo Nixon was right. Inspired by
Gleeful Extremist and
Dr. Chaos.
On second thought, the lyrics don't need any changes whatsoever. Read them in the extended entry. Also, instead of buying Don Henley's newest crap, why not go down to your local store and buy an old Mojo Nixon album? And if they don't have Mojo Nixon...well, then their store could use some fixin!!!!

I respectfully beg to differ. Perhaps the most anti-Liberal song I've ever heard is
Get Over It on the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over reunion album.
The lyrics submitted for your pleasure:
I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' 'Don't blame me'
They point their crooked little fingers at everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat
Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it
You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight
You don't want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing
Get over it
Get over it
If you don't want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, Get over it
It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You're makin' the most of your losin' streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak
You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass
Perhaps he's maturing a little in his old age.

Possibly anti-liberal....but I still hold that Don Henly sucks. As did the Eagles. Except for that one line "saw a Black Flagg sticker on a Cadillac..."
Posted by: RS at August 09, 2004 04:18 PM (JQjhA)
4
Don't the lyrics Gordon cites read like sarcasm? Like the Eagles were trying to say, look how evil conservatives think? Either way, they suck(ed).
I guess it's better than California Dreaming, cause we all know what happens when they play that song.
Posted by: Professor Chaos at August 09, 2004 05:44 PM (YKvJh)
5
Again respectfully, the Henley version is "Dead Head sticker on a Cadillac" there is a new version (Mojo Nixons?) that updated it with "Black Flag"
By the way, the last lyric, "I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass" works for me sarcasm or not ;-).

Launch a Jawa for Peace Campaign
I just have to thank Gordon the Cranky Neocon one more time for starting the
Launch a Jawa for Peace Campaign. He even designed a cool logo for the campaign! What is the Campaign?
Go to his site to find out.

(PS: For all you new bloggers, here is a lesson in blog etiquette.
When linking to another blogger's post, keep the information to a minimum. Why? Because if you give too much information about the post you are commenting on then why would your reader take the time to go to the original? This is an oft violated norm of the blogosphere, but one which bloggers ought to follow more faithfully. Yes, you want readers to spend as much time on your own site as possible, but on the other hand do you want another blogger to simply blockquote your whole post onto their site so their readers don't need to see the original? Etiquette and manners are about reciprical relationships. Without them, social disorder ensues. And yes, the blogosphere is a society---of sorts.)

Ok, I just wasted the last five hours or so trying to get the problem in the comment pop-up window fixed. For some odd reason, when you click on the 'remember info' button, it won't remember anyone's info. Of course, this ONLY apllies to the pop-up window.
Anyone got any quick an easy fixes?

Duct Tape works pretty good; stick with that till the website fixes itself. Ya, right. Two were arrested and they immediately denied who it was but.....big but... DNA testing to be done. Like other things, guess we'll just have to wait and see. NOW does John Edwards want to bring HIM over HERE for prosecution?? HA HA! If he's in Pakistani hands, no one will ever see him again! They have no trouble whatsoever of executing someone and not telling anybody. Hell, Pakistan lost thousands of military individuals (what are they anyway?)when they tried to corner him up in the porous section between Afghanistan and Pakistan on the Pakistan border. They tried for weeks then found all these tunnels that left that compound into the mountains and so alas, Mr Z didn't get a scratch but turned up in IRAQ!! instead raising holy hell on the US, the Coalition and the Iraqi people. I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!

Glenn Reynolds, Please Have Pity
I just did the math. The
Instapundit is clearing $13k a month in
Blogads alone. That's right, $13k a month!!! $3k (x2) for slot one, $2k (x1) for slot two, $1k (x5) for slot three!!
This is on top of his already hefty salary as a tenured professor in a decent law school.
Me: $0 from blogads + a crappy salary as an untenured assistant professor at a not-so-prestigious regional school.
Jealous? Yes. Miffed? Not quite.

Publish naked pictures of Wonkette before her dropping ratings oblige her to "show it all" for Playboy.
Do that, and while you may find yourself in hot water with your wife, Reynolds'll send you your instalaunch, just as soon as finished launching wood in his office.

Plastic Surgery for Bloggers
So this is what it feels like when the doves cry? Some important linkage for the day. Since my sitemeter is in spike mode, might as well practice Reaganomics and see if the trickle down theory works for my buds who deserve some traffic.
Bloggers who have had plastic surgery:
Professor Chaos (third nipple removed) on the Two Americas.
James Joyner (buttock implants) with some practical advice for Bush.
Senator Pundit (testicle reconstruction) about to pop the question.
Kevin (penis extension) on Michael Moore's chances of an oscar.
Chris Cross (laser hair removal at bikiniline) on NY Times terror reporting.
Ace (liposuction) on Alan Keyes vs. Obama bin Laden.
Cameron's (hair plugs) neighbor is no Joey Ramone.
Robert (false calfs) on classical music or some such crap.
Commissar (botox) on the inevetable consequences of liberalism.
BRD (multiple moles removed) on the Sistani fatwa.
Jeff Quinton (tummy tuck) gives Senior Spielberg the cyber finger.
Scott (collagen injections) has the goods on UN/Darfurgate.
Scott Talkington (otoplasty) has more on the Kerry bounce.
The Air Marshal (eyelid surgery) has a nuanced opinion of the war in Iraq.
David Anderson (skin bleaching) on negro conservatives.
Simon (facelift) says China is going to help him with the results of his enemablogs.
Captain Ed (browlift) has more on the Kerry secret plan to end the war.
Johnny Walker's (chin extension) good news @ Chappelle (except Rick James).
Bloggers who I've seen naked (and don't need plastic surgery!):
Jane is ready to invade Israel
Michelle Malkin defends internmentss.
HAC is going hightech with Blogger.
Allah got himself 72 virgins with his bod, so he won't need Kerry's new book.

Dude, Where's My Blog?
Our network has been mostly down since yesterday. I blame the terrorists. Just a quick post in case it goes down again. I may be blogging today--or maybe not.
If this is my only post for the day, why not click through my ever expanding blogroll?

To be clear, my use of the F word was directed at terrorists, not Spoons.

Rusty, why do I suspect you didn't read all of the links?
This and
this, in particular.
I have no objection to Der Commissar's going about his life. I object to his mockery of Annie Jacobsen, or anyone else acting to be vigilant about potential threats.

I understand your difference of opinion on the Terro-skies stories that you linked. That's cool, and you know that I would rather err on the side of caution and offend some people than err on the side of civility and have people die.
But in my mind, 9/10 thinking is DANGEROUS and is worse than saying eff-you. So, I just object to giving the Commissar the 9/10 award for THAT particular post.
It seems to me that the Commissar has learned from the Israelis. That is, in the face of incredible fears and dangers--celebrate life. Live.

Still think you're misconstruing the post, Rusty. It's all well and good to go about living your life. But part of living your life should be keeping vigilant about threats. Mocking people who do that shouldn't be.
It's not just that the Commissar and I disagree about the Jacobsen story -- although I think that the evidence strongly supports a conclusion that the Jacobsens acted reasonably. Even if the Jacobsens had overreacted, though, the attacks on them were completely uncalled for, and
make us less safe.

I haven't read all the posts, but I have to agree with and amend Spoons' last comment: what he seems to be saying is that "living your life" has a different definition post-9/11, and I don't think The Commissar would disagree.

I think its about keeping a sense of perspective, a sense of humor and a sense of COMRADEry, so I have to weigh in with the Commissar and Rusty here, but honestly, I would weigh in with them in most any circumstances, that's just the way we do it in Brooklyn.

I find that the perfect compromise is to be a paranoid in denial. A cocktail of equal parts dexetrine, valium and Stolichnya helps immensely.
(Jane, if not the winner, you've made Letterman's Top 10 List, although we love you anyway because you write with style, grace and power, while not usually running overlong clauses into the same tortured sentence, unlike some of us who can't help ourselves.)
