Weekend Update, with Rusty Shackleford

Had a long weekend. Spent all day Saturday in Memphis. My first time in TN. It was one of those travel-in/travel-out on the same day deals. Can any one in Memphis tell me what the deal is with the pyramid?

Anyway, that's why there was no blogging over the weekend. Here are some interesting links people sent me Friday evening - Monday early morning. Check them out:

65+ terrorists nabbed. Excellent.

NY Times reporting success in Iraq? Long overdue.

More on reporter detained in Iraq. and another one. He was detained because he posed an imperative threat to coalition forces. Now, about al Jazeera....

TSA stupidity.

More on Pulitzer Prize photos. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Democratic memes. Funny and true.

Chick poses as Air Force Captain, defrauds university. That's a fact Jack!

Dude buys billboard looking to score hot chicks. D'oh!

Bush To Spotted Owls: Bring it On

College Prof. apologizes for Ward Churchill, gets fisked.

Marburg Virus: More Deadly Than Anticipated - Deaths Likely Double Reported Number Calling Dustin Hoffman!

The Jawa Report dropped from Google News for 'hate speech', BNN picked up. Congrats. Just don't say anything 'offensive' like, you know, we ought to win the war on terror.....

Wow, an entire blog devoted to the defense of Joe McCarthy!! Kewl.

The Schiavo Legacy. Paul asks, I give.

UPDATE: And here are some unsolicited stories I missed over the weekend.

Someone Forgot To Tell These Iraqis About The QUAGMIRE™!

Arab News continues to shock me. This time they publish an article by my friend Jane Novak, and as far as I can tell, it's not censored!!

Happy Blogoversary to Gordon the Cranky Neocon!

Fractures in Iraq Insugency?

Damn, I love SD County.

Humor: CBS to Give CIA tips on infiltrating enemy groups.

Happy Blogoversary Kevin Aylward!

The goods on Dr. Robert Pastor.

News about Canada that I like.

John Bolton's mustache is so, you know, gay....

1 Memphis is named after another city that is on a large river. That city happens to be in Egypt along the Nile, so, we ended up with a basketball stadium shaped like a pyramid. I've heard that the Great Pyramid of Giza is larger, it holds 85,000 people.

2 Ah, but it looks so out of place and weird. There is a similar pyramid in Vegas, some hotel, and it kind of works there...but not in TN!

5 George W. Bush's lunatic Iraq policy should be roundly criticized by even more journalists. There have been enough curveball cheerleaders raving for war and bloodshed already. Every photo that shows the unadulterated reality of the heinous nature of war provides strong dissonance for the otherwise spellbound followers of the Bushian War Cult.

6 I was in Memphis for the first time last fall and thought the pyramid was pretty weird, too.

7 On this site many allege that there is something inherently wrong with Islam as a religion. “Our God is bigger than your God” it has been said. G W Bush claims to be guided by God and to be a great Christian. JPII counseled GW against the war at least twice and Bush didn’t listen. On Friday, the largest Christian denomination by far, the Catholics, mourned and buried their Saintly leader JPII. Millions of Catholic pilgrims went to pay their last respects. And when they saw George W. Bush they Booed him. And if you listened closely you could here them telling George Bush – “Our God is Bigger than Your God!”

10 I've never been to Memphis, but I did watch "The Memphis Belle" once. Does that count for something?

11 I dunno. Was it a porno?

13 Rusty: You've got the pyramid. A sports complex. Then you've got Beale street. Other than that forget it. Head a few miles south to Tunica, Mississippi. Then its party time. Mississippi rules. The most ropes per density of any state. Come on down and hang around.

14 Rusty: Brass is correct as to the reasons why. You are correct in that in don't fit. Glad you mentioned the Pyramid in Vegas. My little company worked on the design and inspection phase of the Inclinevators. A combination of elevator and escalator. Works to. Ride it next time you are in Vegas. A different feel. Great view from up top. Designed by an ignorant racist. With the help of some chinese and ragheads on my payroll. I slapped them around a lot. You know. Have to keep up my image and those minority set aside dollars flowing in.

15 Thanks for the link. Not only did they not censor it but they put in "Muslim state" once where I had "Bangladesh." I wasn't sure it would go , not only because of the obvious comparisons to governement enabled Islamic extremeism in the two countries. But also because in this one I named names and the Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage is based in SA and Kuwait. So I agree, good on them.
