Vacation Blogging: In-N-Out Burger Edition

If you have never had an In-N-Out Double-Double, you have never lived life. If you've had an In-N-Out Burger, and didn't like it, then there is no need for me to tell you to go to hell. You're definintely heading there anyway.

Tbanks to Bill Dautierieve for snapping this photo today at lunch.

3 In-N-Out to the east of me, In-N-Out to the west of me. Both just a few minutes away. Heaven on earth, man. Heaven on freakin' earth. (Tommy's sucks)

4 R&R in a couple of weeks. I've got the in-n-out urge.

5 Carl's Jr. blows In-n-Out out of the water any day of the week

6 BLASPHEMER!!!! You'll smoke a turd in hell for that!

7 "Animal style" In-N-Out burgers rock! Their fries aren't all that great though.

8 Rusty!!! How are you? Well fed I see.

9 I'm happy with my Culver's Butterburgers here in the cheese state, but it ain't In-N-Out.

10 never heard of em...any out East in NJ???

Posted by: THANOS35 at July 24, 2005 10:21 AM (9gFP6)

11 I've never had an In And Out burger, but the photo makes it look pretty tasty. I'll give it a try when I find out where they are located. Up to now Nations (a SF Bay Area chain) has the best cheeseburger for me. But don't bother with their fries cause they suck.

12 I will kill you the next time I see you.

13 Having driven cross country about 5 times, North and South, I'd have to give In and Out props. Never seen any East, but they were always a welcome sight when driving West. I like that the menu is simple too...no stupid McMutations to try and boost sales. They do one thing right, and keep on doing it. Yes, the fries pretty much suck, but that's because once they switched from French to Freedom style, all the taste just went out the window...

Posted by: osamabeenthere at July 24, 2005 11:58 AM (perrS)

14 Never tried it, looks damn tasty. But I'll pass on the fries. Pure junk & no nutrient.. makes you fat in no time.

15 The ol' "in, out", eh? Reminds me of, "Clock Work Orange".

16 In-N-Out Double Double? I think I saw that movie.

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at July 24, 2005 01:08 PM (0yYS2)

17 NRAYee Since In-n-Out's fries are made from fresh-cut potatoes, you have to eat them right away, fresh from the fryer. If they cool at all, they loss that crisp edge. Last non-corporate "chain" out there.

18 Mmmmm....secret menu....

Posted by: Christopher Cross at July 24, 2005 02:19 PM (3WSUG)

19 If you like In-N-Out, try a Tommy's Burger or FattBurger. They make In-N-Out taste like McDonalds. I never thought I could find a fresher, consistant burger until I had a FattBurger.

Posted by: PMain at July 24, 2005 02:51 PM (QyMqT)

20 The very best hamburger in the world. Has been for 50 years. Not cheap but worth every penny! Better tha Tommy's ( which are good) and Fatburger.

Posted by: Rod Stanton at July 24, 2005 05:35 PM (Z6yVb)

21 Than not tha

Posted by: Rod Stanton at July 24, 2005 05:36 PM (Z6yVb)

22 Dammit, now I gotta leave the house for food. Oh, and for the record, the correct ranking is: Tommy's, EZ Take Out (rumored to have been started by a co-founder of In-N-Out, with almost an identical menu but better fries), Carl's Jr, Fatburger, and then In-N-Out (the fries drop it a few points).

Posted by: KG at July 24, 2005 05:41 PM (s8D3V)

23 You know the lunch menu of most every American-Flag Merchant Ships going through the Suez Canal is almost identical: HAM-Burgers (or canal burgers) Since most Egyptian muslims are smart enough to know that ham is pork, and dumb enough not to know that a hamburger is made from beef, they are really dissappointed and have to skip lunch. For those smart enough to know the difference, a good portion of them get a 50/50 burger. (50% beef/ 50% pork) Yum, yum. All in good fun really. It's payback for hours of "Keep it in the middle."

24 AAAUUUGH! These In-N-Out stores apparently exist only in California, Nevada, and Arizona! I'm in freaking Washington DC so I'd have to make a trip across the country just to sample the Double Double!

25 Fatwa issued against blasphemers who say Carls Jr. or Tommy's is better than In-N-Out. Hands down, In-N-Out. Seriously, not even in the same league.

Posted by: Rusty Shackleford at July 24, 2005 11:16 PM (xZV2U)

26 Tell you what, Rusty: For the duration you're in California, grab yourself a huge one. In fact, on some special day when you and your family feel like courting coronary failure, order up a 20x20. For every 1x1 consumed by you and family at that sitting I'll donate $5.00 to the military support cause of your choice. I want pictures of the burger before and after, and the receipt. E-mail me for confirmation.

Posted by: ccwbass at July 25, 2005 03:09 AM (+XFhJ)

27 Rusty, where in Cali are you at?

Posted by: osamabeenthere at July 25, 2005 09:58 AM (perrS)

28 Had one when I was in California and it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. I believe it was the truly disgusting American cheese on it that made it so bad. Wimpy's Grill in Durham is my favorite burger place. Authentic little burger joint with wonderful burgeres.

29 Meh, it's nothing special. Tastes better than most, but they are rather small, and pretty pricy for the size. Fries are not too good, either (you would think with fresh-cut 'taters they would be better). If they were not so small I would be more enthusiastic about them. I prefer two singles over the muliples. You get twice of all taste nutrients, not just the fat and protein.

30 I issue a fatwah against anyone who does not eat my big mac. Ah, who am I kidding, I prefer the Double-Double!!!
