Personal Notes and Asides

Probably interesting to a very few, but will help explain my absence and light posting. I'm in the middle of looking for a job somewhere other than Tatooine U. So, if you've e-mailed lately and I didn't respond, that's the explanation. It's also why I won't be posting much the rest of the week.

I have a job interview later this week and I need to get prepared. The major part of the 'interview' will be me lecturing in someone else's class.

I'm fairly nervous about the interview. It's actually at one of my 'dream schools'---somewhere I've always wanted to end up at. That's why I went fishing yesterday. I couldn't deal with sitting around the office any longer.

Fishing report? I caught two big bass, and a walleye. I'd never caught a walleye before. I had to ask these two other guys what the heck the thing was.

Anyway, wish me luck. I'll be back next week.

7 Gee, Rusty, good luck and all, but what the hell is a walleye? Is it edible?

9 Are you sure you aren't mistaking a walleye for a brown trout? As for the interview, if it starts to go south, tell the chair that the jerkstore called, and their running out of him.

10 May the Force be with you, Rusty.

11 The walleye looks a lot like perch (and belongs to the same family) only much bigger, and found in most of Northern US; the brown trout looks like the less-dramatic salmon, the family and genus it belongs to. It's referred to as circumpolar because of its broad range (it is found in Europe and China as well as North America and many other places), and the record was caught four years ago in Little Red River, Arkansas: 40 lbs, 4 oz. We caught a brown in a Southern Wisconsin stream that was four inches, so we've relocated it to a friend's tank until it's big enough for the pond. Don't know how it survived in that tiny branch of Raccoon Creek. Must have been a lucky plant. Good luck fishing, Rusty. You know where to go. (Didn't I mention Beloit College, which could use someone unsteeped in blue kool-aid?)
