Jack Kilby 1923 -2005

(Dallas, Texas) Born in Great Bend, Kansas, in 1923, Jack St. Clair Kilby was an engineer, scientist, and inventor. For many years, he worked for Texas Instruments and, in 1959, he patented an integrated circuit device made with germanium. His legacy is the explosion in Information Technology we now enjoy. Yesterday, Texas Instruments CEO Tom Engibous said,

"In my opinion, there are only a handful of people whose works have truly transformed the world and the way we live in it - Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers and Jack Kilby."

"If there was ever a seminal invention that transformed not only our industry but our world, it was Jack's invention of the first integrated circuit."

For his creation, Kilby was deservedly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000.

Jack Kilby died Monday at his home in Dallas. He was 81.

2 God what an idiot. You really think you're being clever, or annoying, with your moronic drivel, but you're really just pathetic. You don't have the brainpower to convince a starving dog to eat. However, in the interest of free speech, please continue to show us exactly how stupid you and your fellow leftards are.

4 Maximus, since according to traditional measures of mental retardation, an "idiot" has an IQ of between 0 and 25, I believe that you've evaluated the fool at over twice his metal capacity, which is obviously a negative number.

6 Courtesy of Bush.. Iraqi rebels refine bomb skills From David S Cloud The New York Times ,Washington: It is believed that experts in the former Iraqi army and rocket scientists are involved in the making of the explosive devices. American casualties from bomb attacks in Iraq have reached new heights in the last two months as insurgents have begun to deploy devices that leave armored vehicles increasingly vulnerable, according to military records. Last month there were about 700 attacks against American forces using so-called improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, the highest number since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to the American military command in Iraq and a senior Pentagon military official. Attacks on Iraqis also reached unprecedented levels, Lt Gen John Vines, a senior American ground commander in Iraq, told reporters on Tuesday. The surge in attacks, the officials say, has coincided with the appearance of significant advancements in bomb design, including the use of "shaped" charges that concentrate the blast and give it a better chance of penetrating armoured vehicles, causing higher casualties. infrared lasers Another change, a senior military officer said, has been the detonation of explosives by infrared lasers, an innovation aimed at bypassing electronic jammers used to block radio-wave detonators. In a sign of heightened American concern, the Army convened a conference last week at Fort Irwin, in the California desert, where engineers, contractors and senior officers grappled with the problems posed by the new bombs. At a briefing on Tuesday for reporters at the Pentagon, General Vines, who spoke by telephone from Iraq, said that the insurgents' tactics "have become more sophisticated in some cases," and that they were probably drawing on bomb-making experts from outside Iraq and from the old Iraqi army. A senior Marine officer with access to classified reports from the field said that the vehicles involved in at least two fatal attacks were armoured Humvees but that the bombs "were so big that there was little left of the Humvees that were hit." Insurgents have long been able to build bombs powerful enough to penetrate some armoured vehicles. But the use of "shaped" charges could raise the threat considerably, military officials said. The shaped charge explosion fires a projectile "at a very rapid rate, sufficient to penetrate certain levels of armour," Lt Gen James T Conway, the director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said. A Pentagon official involved in combating the devices said shaped charges seen so far appeared crude but required considerable expertise, suggesting insurgents were able to draw on well-trained bomb-makers, possibly even rocket scientists from the former government. Shaped charges and rocket engines are similar, the official said. Infrared detonators are an advance over the more common method of rigging bombs to explode after an insurgent nearby presses a button on a cell phone, a garage-door opener or other device that gives off an electric signal. That approach is vulnerable to jammers, however, and a shift to infrared detonators, which rely on light waves, underscores the insurgents' resourcefulness.

7 CHIMPY's dad sent Maximus to the desert and it warped his rattle-brain so much he wants to attack the 60% of america who dare say enough to the McChimpy war, enough to the McChimpy body bags and enough to the McChimpy's false propheteering.

8 One could hardly tell that was a New York Times article, well until you unveil the admiration for the insurgents, that is.

11 I saw that reported on the news a few hrs. ago, and I'm soooo glad you bought it up. Why? Because the next time you hear the ilkes of John Kerry say they "have a plan" for reproducing the economic windfall that was the result of a G-d given gift, through the agency of single individual over whom the government had (thank G-d) no control, say to yourselves, "Yeah, Right!" And what's more, none of our nation's economic mega-successes have ever been due to conscious govt., bureaucratic meddling. In fact, from the history I've learned, whenever our economy has boomed, it has been in spite of, rather than because of politicians. If anything justifies the Republican claim that the economy is better off in the hands of business than those of the government, I think the consequences of Jack Kilby's work is it. And what on earth does that have to do with all the childishly ignorant propaganda posted above about Iraq, except that those lies, too, are fostered by the leftmost end of the political spectrum, as represented by the socialist bloviaters of the demoncratic 'Party Of The Terribly Irrational & Irrelevant' (that's POTTII, for short)? But, since you've brought it up, you might as well know who the terrorists really are, and how they are all connected. Here is a Muslim website that shows, in excruciating detail, how Bin Laden and Saddam ARE linked to each other, to the Nazis, and to nearly all other Islamic terrorists in the world. www.tellthechildrenthetruth.com/index.htm They are all one big unhappy islamofascist family, and if you can't figure out why we are fighting these monsters after reading that, you might just be one of them. NOTE: The few articles that I've read on this site have been pretty good. I hope the writers soon acquire a more appreciative readership than they appear to have, based on the buckets of drivel I've seen in the comments sections of those articles.

13 Yoda - CHIMPY and Bin Laden are so tightly bound together they need pants with four legs and even the photo is illegal in most decent places. Who, but CHIMPY can bring 'em on so well? Who, but CHIMPY needs Bin Laden to be powerful? Who, but CHIMPY screws us out of our money and liberty so that he can steal oil?

16 BLSD, I have to admit, the more I see, the more I realize that Bush is not to be blamed for anything. If you wish to express your anger, you should aim it at the correct person. Even though some ventriloquist dummy can seem to make you terribly upset, in reality it is the ventriloquist who is doing it. So don’t blame Bush when Chenney pulls his strings. But I will also admit that the war in Iraq was justified. Not because of the WMD, but Saddam did repeatedly disobey the UN, and he torture and killed people. The only thing I dislike that Bush, oh I mean Chenney, did wrong with the war is he jump the damn gun. Instead of going for a quick KO punch with tomahawks, we should of waited. We needed more troops initially to help prevent the looting and chaos that was going to happen after the invasion. We need more troops to patrol the borders to prevent asshole terrorist from coming in. We need more troops to train the Iraqis faster and better. My opinion is we are now suffering from that because now have a fear of the thugs, because they had to live with them until recently. Some still do. If we could of protected the average Iraqis at the beginning, they would be more forth coming with information. That is my opinion. One last thing, since most people on this blog does not like you sign in, I came up with two that you can use if you want. Chenney pulls – Bush Dances or Bush as Boss – Jobs are lost.

17 So the dead guy is the one who is to blame for Info Tech? Dangit, someone should've told him to pursue an acting career or something... World would be a lot better place without computers, world wide web and satellites. Hundreds of millions of miserable creatures spending hours and hours glued to the TV/comp screen watching+listening shit or typing/reading crap, all because of him and the nerds who were helping him create a device that would make idle people into zombies.

18 Ah, Finn...but you have a choice! You can take a sledgehammer to your computer right now! I do hear you, brother. I'm about as tech as they get with computers, surveillance, gadgets, etc. Sometimes I want to scrap it all and just disappear into the wilderness to live off the land. I'm sure "Bush Lies" is gonna tell me not to because "McChimpy" is going to clear-cut my new home...

22 Speaking of Ted Kaczynski (and Al Gore), can you tell the difference? www.crm114.com/algore/quiz.html It's a lot closer to home than the leftists want us to think: "Here's a quote not on the quiz. You tell me who called the automobile "a mortal threat to the security of every nation that is more deadly than that of any military enemy we are ever again likely to confront"? That's right. That's our former vice president and the man who won the popular vote in the last presidential election." from: www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=21866 Whew! Close call, eh! I mean, who would vote for...? Oh wait, that's right, they're the ones who say they want a "reasoned debate" and then make undocumentable charges, shout down opponents and throw insults, obscenities and pies. Yeah, I guess it's not so implausible after all.
