Firing Up The Trackback Debate
Comments are disabled.

A year ago I started a brief debate regarding trackback etiquette. James McGovern has given me some inspiration and I'd like to rekindle that debate. My thoughts, ideas, and opinions have been posted over at Lockergnome.
Let's create a standard for blogs and trackbacks; let's end this debate and move along effectively.

Rusty,
I couldn't find your comments at Lockergnome, but here is my take. Trackback should be a simple concept to standardize. IMAO, if you get inspiration from another, or fold their comments/ideas (give proper credit) into your post, then you should trackback. It is a way of saying "Hey, I took your idea an added to it, or, I ref'd your post in mine, just wanted to let you know."
Anything else is just abuse. I get a few trackbacks to posts that 1) have nothing to do with the trackedback post 2) don't mention CDR Salamander in any way. It seems to me, this is someway to increase the trackbacker's traffic from the trackbackees readers.
My $.02. Trackback if you reference a post, or get inspiration from another post. Kind of like a "Hat tip."
Mmmm.....I think I'll post on this....
