Will Work For Crack Campaign

(Kelowna, British Columbia) There's a politician, Andrew Uitvlugt, running for the mayor's office in Kelowna who has proposed a very creative solution to the problem of litter.

From EdmontonSun.com:

Andrew Uitvlugt says crack cocaine could be used as a reward for drug-addicted homeless people to pick up garbage.

"So what I propose to do is to possibly motivate people with drugs to do constructive work, like get them out there picking up garbage, and then we'll give them some crack," he says on the website www.okbc.tv in a wacky video campaign pitch.

"Now what'll happen here is, after they're done picking up their garbage, they're going to feel somewhat good, they're going to think to themselves, 'You know, I did a good job today.' And they're going to maybe need less crack."

You can see Uitvlugt's campaign video here.

Besides not having a clue on how to pronounce his name, I suspect that Uitvlugt hasn't considered that his proposal would likely result in an increase in garbage along with an increase in people desiring to pick up garbage.

1 We took down a somewhat longer transcript of his "new idea" at Independent Sources here. It includes "and hopefully after these people do that enough (pick up garbage and get free crack), their self esteem will get built up, and theyÂ’ll get so used to working doing constructive things that they will no longer need the crack." He also has interesting ideas about the homeless. I'm surprised he's not here in California!

5 Actually, in a perfect world it would be ingenious. Just think, the government could control drug production and distribution, and those who are inclined to become addicts could benefit from free drugs in exchange for productive labor. Give 'em a twenty rock or a snort of meth for every bag of garbage they pick up, and there wouldn't be a cigarette butt from Maine to California. They could be housed in the projects, transported to and from worksites by public transportation, and given food stamps to keep them alive, all in exchange for a quota of garbage. It's just like what we have now except that there is no benefit to the public, because everything else, other than government control of drugs, is in place.

6 This is awesome!!! I'd like to see how many people participate to get the crack, then litter the empty vials and start the whole thing over again!!!

7 After watching the promo video I'm convinced that this guy would be the first in line to pick up garbage in exchange for crack. It'd be great because he'd never have to pay for it again... One example of a budding Canadian politician. They're all liberal crack heads anyway.

8 Crack viles. Go to the east side of Harlem Hospital in New York City. So many little glass viles they leave a crack, crack sound when you walk down the street. (As you rush to your car before being accosted by one of Al Sharpton's finest). HEY!!!!!!! IS THAT WHY THEY CALL IT CRACK???????
