Has the kinder, gentler world started taking over mainstream manliness? Are metrosexuals the new de facto standard in what men are supposed to be? I ask for numerous reasons but let me start off by saying I sure am glad I have a daughter and not a son. Why?
Reason #1: It's not okay to wear pink, son.
Pink is for girls, son. Just because a few of your friends are wearing pink (or any color with a semblance of pink) doesn't make it okay. Just because your girlfriend thinks you look manly in pink doesn't make it right for you to wear.
I point out this pink fashion trend mainly because of a shopping experience yesterday. My wife, daughter, and I were at some outlet mall here in Ohio and were searching for winter clothes for me (the daughter got squared away; don't worry). We walked into a Polo Ralph Lauren store after we walked out of the Tommy Hilfiger store and I was absolutely stunned. Polo had pink everything; from sweaters to shirts to pants if it could be made pink it was pink. There was more pink in the man's clothing store than there was in the Limited Too we had been in an hour earlier. It was simply disturbing. It shows a trend in today's society that if thought through can be traced back a long way.
Reason #2: You're a man, son. How come your sister is tougher than you are?
I was watching my daughter while my wife was out looking for some chocolate store so she could buy a gift. I was a little amazed about what was transpiring on a playground at the outlet mall. There was a group of boys and a group of girls. The boys were going down the slides and sliding down the sliding poles while the girls were playing in the dirt. Kids are kids, right? Boys want physical activity and girls want to create things, right? WRONG! The girls were down there because that's where they wanted to be and the boys weren't down there because, as a brother of one of the girls put it, "I don't want to get dirty." So much for snakes, snails, and puppy dog tails.
Has making boys more sensitive and caring really helped things? Sure, psychiatrists are getting more money and the number of boy bands have increased but is it really doing any good?

Funny, the first article I agree with for over 75% of the context. I'd blame the media. It's full of "strong" (")minority(")/(")female(") figures, messes up a kids head real bad. Arm yourselves and kill all cuecardmonkeys, make-up queers, network executives and writer/composers, that should take care of the problem until new ones spawn.
Or just don't and you'll eliminate the weak-of-mind and only allow the ones ignoring the crap all the way from childhood to keep their genders typical behaviour and interrest in the opposite sex, therefore being the only ones reproducing and teaching their kids to ignore the crap. Only 100 years or so, and you'll get a idiot-free society...

Somewhere along the line some woman said, "I like a man who takes care of himself." Then men, as usual, over-reacted and a mad rush to the manicure parlor ensued.
Speaking of little girls and boys. My grandaughter was at her preschool one day and as she attempted to get on a rocking horse some boy tried to shove his way past her to get to it first. She clobbered him, he cried and my daughter scolded her, telling her she couldn't beat her way through life.
When Mommy wasn't looking, I pulled her aside and said, "Good girl!" and promised her ice cream later. She wasn't being aggressive. She was defending herself. Hitting that boy might have toughened him up .... or he'll grow up wearing pink ;-) It's up to his parents to set it straight.

Right on: I was listening to a report last week. Colorado needs
roughnecks with all the demand for oil drilling rigs were all in use and more coming. The problem they could not get workers. Well they got some to apply but rejected them all because like they had a DUI or refused drug testing. Anyone who knows anything about roughnecks and how dangerous and hard working a rig is or has ever been to The Spot Tavern where all the Roughnecks from the 70's took the paychecks and beat each other senseless every Friday night. They need Men who are willing to work till the sweat drips out of their clothes at risk of life and limb but it would be nice if they were you know kind of sweet and law abiding at the same time.
Give me a break.
Grab that cat line and screw the pipe together yes you in the pink shirt hiding in the doghouse.
You can always pick out chain hands at The Spot just count fingers if you get less than 10 well that's him.
Grandpa is the worlds oldest living derrick hand.

It's the media. The men portrayed as heroic are what we would call the metrosexual, whereas a manly man is usually shown as a redneck, racist, murdering thug.

Maybe if you shopped for clothes like a real man -- at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, instead of at Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, you wouldn't have this problem.

The media does have big hand in this.in fact, I would venture to saymost of htem are metrosexuals than heterosexuals.Too much of our culture has been feminized and I can't stand it.time to toss these people to the dogs.

dare I suggest schools as a culprit? and yes, all the big billboards and ads with hairless male torsos and the weird-looking man/girl models used by the designers and fashion mags.

There are more sinister implications of the push to create metrosexuals. When the barbarians are at the gates wearing animal fur and holding some rather nasty-looking weapons, we will want some big-ass, roughneck with the attitude of a junk yard dog as a gate keeper, and his closest relatives in the watch towers. We seem to be doing our damnedest to breed that out of our society. Of course we probably could hold them off for a while by tossing members of the MSM and feminists over the walls as distractions. I wonder what they will think as their heads are being separated from the rest of them. Certainly not that they had it coming.

Bill has a good point. When we needed to tame the continent or build cities with our bare hands or have a war. Rough stong pig headed men were needed. Corporations now want nice quiet obediant workers. Not hell raising ass kicking foul mouthed tell ya what they think men. Think about how many interests there are in the sheepification of the population. Why becaue they are scared. My boss says, "you went to the hilltop bar my god it's a wonder you were not killed". I just laugh, "they won't kill ya if ya don't ask for it". He says well we go to ?????, never heard of it. I said what for so you can pay six bucks for a beer? no for the atmosphere. The real reason is they are scared of the good ol boys at the Hilltop.

I must say though, chicks are often not attracted to men wearing "I'm with stupid" or "Who threw poo?" T-shirts.
However, men waxing and wearing pink/lavendar/yellow shirts are disturbing developments.
At one moment, we were complaining about society being "too casual" like wearing sports jackets to a funeral. Now its "too feminine".
However cynical a gnome I am, I heard that thirties' fashions are coming back for men. Maybe the metrosexual thing will pass.

They probibly want to teach little boys to be herb gardeners and eat garden burgers and play dumb games like GIVE PEACE A CHANCE and sing dumb songs like DOG AND BUTTERFLY,AGE OF AQUARIUS, and ride the bicycles around the park all day meditating to the trees time to get the kinder genteler nambdy pambdies out of our schools

The hairless man trend is disturbing. At the beach and an outdoor concert this summer there were young guys with no chest, leg, or arm hair. They strutted around in just their shorts, and their hairless, tanned bodies. It's a freakish sight, but I do blame us women. We've confused them. We don't want too much hair and you know how men are. Taking things to extremes. Anyway, the ones that did have on their polo shirts had their collars up. I don't know what was worse, the droves of male-stripper wannabes, or the 80s flashbacks.
As for pink - I think that's part of the 80s fashion resurgence that they are trying to foist upon us. We were looking at old pictures last week and my dad - a MAN - had on some shade of pink shorts and a shirt circa 1985. Hopefully, it will pass.

there was a popular song a few years ago called ''where have all the cowboys gone?'' answer, they were all killed by the same radical feminists who bemoan their loss.

I wore a pink sweater, once, twenty years ago. I was living in Tokyo and a Japanese girl had given it to me. Hey, I thought, it'll make her happy, and that's a good thing -(insert small, evil grin, here).
However, later that night, when I was drinking with another Japanese girl (more of a late night friend than the first) she said to me, " You know, if any other guy wore a pink sweater, I'd figure he was gay, but on you it looks OK."
The dam*est thing happened.... I lost that sweater that night. Never did find it again.... ever.

I blame the jihadist forces at work around the world. Several communiques have reportedly been intercepted where they clearly imply they are attempting to weaken Western men into metrosexual complacency, thereby weakening them to the point of Islmic submission. Of course, the MSM won't report this because they don't understand the blogosphere, but it's clearly a problem because bloggers are talking about it.
