U.S. Delegates Snubbed at Caracas Airport

A senior delegation of U.S. lawmakers, led by Rep. Henry Hyde, R-Ill., the powerful chairman of the House International Relations Committee, was snubbed by Venezuelan authorities at Maiquetia International Airport in Caracas. The delegates were not allowed to disembark from their plane and eventually left.

Venezuelan officials denied reports that the incident happened, however, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the Venezuelan government had in fact apologized for the incident.

It's my perception that Hugo Chavez's attitude toward international diplomacy will soon be indistinguishable from the attitude of North Korea's Kim Jong Il.

Hugo-Chavez Kim Jong Il

Both are thug communists that (and I know this is redundant) cannot be trusted.

1 With the price of oil trending downward, the new taxes Chavez has retroactively placed on Western oil companies, aging oil fields in need of new and better technology, and the slowdown of investment by Western companies, Chavez is about to run into trouble. His little Hitlerdom has overextended itself. He is using large sums of money to buy weapons, political influence, and allies in the Third World. He will soon bankrupt Venezuela, be overthrown by his own people, and vanish into the South American night. It can't happen too soon for me.

3 "The Ministry says a change in arrival gates caused the delay, and the congressional delegation never made contact with any airport officials." This is what they want us to believe, if that's the truth.. So a plane lands at your airport, doesn't talk to anyone, just sits there and two hours later takes off without a word. Nothing is done about it, no military escourt, no police or law enforcment to check who the hell you are and what you want. ..i think it's time to invade and colonise venezuela, they obviously have no defenses or procedures to deal with uncommunicative aircraft in their airspace or soil.

4 Chavez is so stupid it's funny. He thinks he can behave like a classic first world thug, but he reminds me of a small dog in a small yard barking from behind a chain link fence at the cars going by. One day, he'll find a hole in the fence and run out into the street to do battle with those cars, and will be ground into the pavement of historical obscurity.

6 Chavez reminds me of some greasy thug standing on the street corner in front of a podunk gas station. He hassles the cars as they come in, offers some fuel "on the side for cheap" to his pals, and talks a lot of crap to the cop cars driving by but would piss his pantalones if the police actually stopped to reply to him. Instead of sending the CIA to kill him, I think we should send some JOO bankers after him. If we have learned anything, it's that the economic viability of capitalism will beat out a communist paradise any day of the week.

7 I swear - Chavez looks like the guy who sold me that short dime bag with all the seeds 30 years ago outside a bodega on 4th Ave in Brooklyn. I never forget a lowlife face!

9 Chavez blows alot of hot air and no doubt, like all dictators his time will come eventually. However, fixing the damage he's done to Venezuela and the rest of Latin America will tame a long time. His support consists almost entirely of very large numbers of poverty stricken citizens whom he's armed and supplied with cash as a buffer against the wealthier, educated nationals who are against him. This buys him some time, but when (for whatever reason) he's thrown out, it still leaves a major security problem which Venezuela doesn't have the ability to solve on its own. As for sending a delegation to Venezuela, that to me just seems like a complete waste of time and resources. It's not as if talking nicely to the guy will make hime see the error of his ways. For now he's Castro with disposable income and he'll keep on living it up.

10 Why the hell isn't the Congressman from Taxachusetts under investigation for his little subsidized oil deal with Venezuela? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the job of the President? WTF?!

11 Oh, this part is rich, "The Venezuelan foreign ministry said in a statement that the arrival was "delayed a few more minutes" because the airport's VIP terminal was reserved for the Spanish defense minister, who was in Caracas to sign a weapons deal that the U.S. opposes." Translation: "Yes, I'm sorry we overlapped your appointments, but we think buying arms from Spain to later fight you with is more important than negotiating all around, good relations. Please, be patient. Oh, and please ignore our obvious attempts to buy a favorable opinion from two of your strongest Democrat strongholds, NY and MA, by offering them cheap oil. We'd offer it to CA too if they weren't so warm there."

12 If the political world stage were a Christmas play, chavez would be nothing but the palm tree in the background.

13 Haven't the Spanish learned anything? First they screwed with England, and lost their fleet. Then when the Maine accidentally blew up, we took their empire with ease. (Oops, sorry!) Then they were divided between the Nazis and Communists, and both sides lost. Then there was 3/11, wherein the entire nation surrendered to al Qaeda over a few bombs and elected a governmental system that is guaranteed to bankrupt their country. Perhaps the Spanish inherited a little too much from the arabs, because they can't seem to make a winning choice, and now, they've proven that once again they don't have the good sense to be on the winning side, and choose to back not only the newest dictator, but the stupidest one. Just when you think people can't surprise you with their stupidity, they'll prove you wrong.
