UPDATE 9/23: The Italian government remains skeptical over the claims (story here). I am more confident of the claims. The original abduction was on Sept. 7th. Three days later, a message was left by a group called "Ansar al-Zawahiri", threatened to behead the hostages within 24 hrs and that their bodies would never be found. Today, Reuters reports that Ansar al-Zawahiri will soon release a video of Simona Pari and Simona Torretta being beheaded. I pray that I'm wrong, but suspect that I am not. The religion of irony has struck again.

A group calling itself the Jihad Organisation in Iraq have claimed to have murdered Simona Pari and Simona Torretta (pictured right, click to enlarge). The two Italian women were in Iraq as aid workers helping Iraqi children. They worked for A Bridge to Baghdad an organization that was in Iraq before the war, which attempted to end UN sanctions. May God speed you to his rest, and may his wrath rain down on those who murdered you. According to Reuters the group said:

We in the Jihad Organisation in Iraq announce that God's verdict has been passed on the two Italian prisoners by slaughtering, after the Italian government headed by the vile (Prime Minister Silvio) Berlusconi did not listen to our one condition to withdraw from Iraq," the statement said.

"We warn the Italian government that we will continue to strike, and to strike every foreigner living in Iraq," said the statement, dated September 22.

UPDATE 9/23: Via Chad Evans I found the full message from the al-Jihad Organization in Iraq, as translated by Evan F. Kohlman reads:

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful:

Praise be to Allah, Lord of this world and the next, and may His peace be upon the leader of his mujahideen. We in the Jihad Organization in Iraq announce that AllahÂ’s verdict has been executed on the two Italian prisoners by slaughtering them, after the Italian government headed by the evil Berlusconi ignored our sole condition to withdraw from Iraq. We in the Jihad Organization warn the Italian government that we will continue to strike, and to strike every foreigner living in Iraq. We will not relent and we will not yield until we dig your graves in every inch of the land of Islam.

We will make Iraq a cemetery for you and all those who let themselves be seduced into committing aggression against the Muslims. Those who have done wrong will meet their fate.

1 Do we know their religion? I'm assuming they're Catholic. Most Italians are Catholic, as am I, but let's not forget that when the US decided to go into Iraq to liberate millions of oppressed people, the Pope called George Bush -- not Saddam Hussein -- to talk him out of action that might kill innocent people. 2 hey just wondering about the last 2 videos: obviously i am horrified, but: i notice some sounds towards the end of the decapitations which sound like pig/beast noises dubbed in. i have a good ear and i'm pretty sure the noises i mentioned are not authentic. so my question: did the terrorists dub it in, or did it happen somewhere else along the chain? its a bit weird, but i'm wondering if it is some sort of sick commentary or joke on the radicals' part, maybe equating the infidel with pigs or something? listen closely, i don't think the audio is all natural. i'm sure i'll get alot of people thinking i'm callous/uncaring or whatever, but really i'm just a bit scientific by nature, and i am truly wondering if anyone else noticed this.

My heart wrenches to think how they must feel to know what kind of horrifying, brutal end their loved one endured...all for this country and what America stands for. It made me thank God for my family and my heritage. People can blame President Bush for the deaths in this war all they want. They claim that the hostage takers have nothing to gain by killing two females from an NGO who have been helping iraqis. 66 I just noticed after reviewing the beheading pics again that there always seems to be no more or less than (5) cowards hiding behind the hostage before they kill him. In many of the pics, the 5 men appear to be of similar size and stature as the other pics. Any chance that we're dealing with that small of a group of wackos? And someone please answer me, what's wrong with this approach: shouldn't the US be issuing a warning to all civilians in Iraq to get out of town for a while, until this this is under control? I know they are there to rebuild Iraq, and pulling them out would delay the rebuilding, but in other countries, the US Government has issued decrees (I forget what they call them) for US citizens to get out asap when they sense something big is likley to happen. Doesn't this qualify as something big? Or in the grand sceme of things, are these few civilians too small to warrant such a strong defensive approach?

Most American's live their lives....come the end of the week clean up, put on their Sunday best and head to church for a couple of hours. A GROSS UNDERESTIMATION HAS BEEN MADE HERE! This is the way these people fight... these people are worse then animals....animals do not kill for sport or statement.....these people are heinous evil hollow beings to us free of mercy,humanity or any regard for human life regardless of age or gender...but they see themselves as serving god's will. A new government, reform, people free from oppression....you can take the spots off a cheetah...it's still a cheetah. Our government knew first hand what atroscities are being commited....ie: how they fight..and still chose to go to war unprepared...without a long-term plan....a gross miscalculation/underestimation... Unaccepable actions from someone elected as the leader of the free world and the man who sent us to war. ....how do you unring a bell? I am terrified to continue and terrified what would happen if we withdraw...Somalia...Veitnam??? So since he failed to act, bush was handed this mess initially thru a tragic event (9/11). You cant complain about bush should have done this or Bush should have done that. A president cannot wage war on his own authority. it takes the vote of elected officials that you and i have placed in those offices. So instead of throwing the entire blame on bush, take a good look at how much energy and research you did on those people that you elected to put in the lower positions. You know the ones im talking about, the ones that overwhelmingly supported the rush to go to war based on the info they collected and passed to the president, but now want to bitch and say oops bad intel we should not be there.. bad news TOO LATE, now deal with it and help those boys finish thier jobs so they can come home and raise thier kids and be within the borders of this great country.
