The Wonders of Socialized Medicine

From Sky News:

Hospital bosses have apologised after maggots were found crawling in and out of an unconscious patient's nose.

Christine Ellison was in intensive care when her daughter, Nyree Ellison Anjos, made the revolting discovery.

"I thought there was something not quite right so I had a closer look and I could see maggots crawling in and out of her nose."

The maggots turned out to be fly larvae.

A statement from Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust said: "We would like to offer our sincere apologies to the family of Mrs Ellison for any distress caused by this incident.

"We can confirm that a very small number of maggots were found.

"The incident was incredibly rare and we took immediate steps to prevent it from happening again."

Yes, rare. So rare in fact that the hospital has gone nearly two months since their last maggot episode:
Maggots found in hospital treatment room

A hospital trust has been criticised after one of its treatment rooms had to be fumigated when maggots were found feeding on a discarded sandwich.

A corridor and room at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital was sealed off after the maggots were discovered on October 25, hospital officials said.

1 My friend has gone sixteen months now waiting for a MRI from the NHS. Until he can get the MRI to give him a clean bill of health the Government has revoked his driving license due to the fact he had blackouts after a car accident. His appointment came up about four months ago, after waiting six hours he was told to go home, there were too many patients to process that day, they'd mail him a new appointment -- he is still waiting for a new appointment date. My friend worked as a truck driver, and now he is making much less money from the Government via a disability check. I doubt he thinks socialized medicine is that great either.

2 Grasshopper: Only when you remove the Michael Crook posts from your blog, will it truly be maggot-free.

3 With a little work, they might catch up with the state of health care in India: Ants eat away patientÂ’s eye in Indian hospital: (hmm, comments won't let me post a link, but you can google for these words: india ants eye patient courier eat) I think I'd prefer to die in my bed at home than risk what it takes to get cured.

6 If anyone thinks that government health care is so great, they should join the Army, that'll straighten them out. A friend of mine was discharged with a crooked pinkie finger because in the entire US Army, they couldn't get an orthopoedist to fix it, and wouldn't let him go to a civilian hospital. I wish I could say he was a rare case, but no. I knew lots of guys, including myself, who were nearly crippled by the incompetency of military medical personnel.

8 The Democrats think it is the best thing since sliced bread. And they intend to socialize medicine as soon as it is feasible(they get the majority). Heaven forbid!

9 I think that anyone who wants socialized medicine should get it, which would be exactly what they deserve.

10 Agent Smith says that if you think socialized medicine is bad, try taking the red pill.

11 The red pill leads to socialized medicine, Smith, along with too many other ills for me to mention in the small amount of time I have to comment. Perhaps later, but my point is well taken.
