The REAL MEDIA MATTERS Agenda

kosagenda.jpg

Markos 'Screw Them' Zuniga takes offense at the above advertisement by USA Next running at The American Spectator, former home of one David Brock--the man who owns Media Matters and employs a number of prominent left-wing bloggers.*

Apparently his readers take offense, too, and he has inspired a number of 'clever' photoshops. The America(it's all about the gay cock)blog actually has a funny photoshop (inspired by Atrios) and is the least offensive. Dohiyi Mir and Suburban Nomad so 'cleverly' comes up with a photoshop of Bush's 'real agenda' of torturing prisoners at Abu Ghraib and stomping out the Constitution, inspired, no doubt by Kos' use of the word fascist to describe the GOP today.

I, on the other hand, propose this less offensive photoshop that Kos, Atrios, and Media Matters in general has inspired.

UPDATE: Kevin Drum and Digby chime in on those Swift Boat liars. (via Meme Random)

UPDATE II: James Joyner has a good run-down on the controversy.

*For the record the banner ad is pretty lame and inflamatory. But mostly it's just gay.

1 Wait, you're comparing an organization whose sole purpose to to slime another organization because it thinks piratizing SocSec is a bad idea, and Markos' stupid, one-off comment? Regardless, I think your mockup is pretty good. I wouldn't go so far as to call it funny, but it's just as fair as everything else that's floating around.

2 So you're gullible enough to believe that stupid USA Next ad?

3 Yes, AARP is all about gay marriage and anti-military. /sarcasm The USA Next ad is stupid. Markos' comment was disgusting. Big difference. Thanks for compliment on photoshop. Personally, I think it sucks.

4 The USA Next ad is stupid. Markos' comment was disgusting. Big difference. See, I think they're both stupid and disgusting, but not morally equivalent. I'm not going to rehash the stuff about what Markos said, but I think intent and context is important here, and the USA Next ad is a disturbing part of a pattern. Thanks for compliment on photoshop. Personally, I think it sucks. We're always our worst critic. I thought the statement you were making was good. I mean, not what you're trying to say about Kos, but the implication about the Photoshopping going on. But really, lighten up a little!

5 Dude, too late at night to lighten up. Need sleep..........

10 One of them is backed up by millions of dollars. Markos is being funded by Soros? ;-)

11 I couldn't hang at Drum's site. They honestly hate any conservative views and values. The comment section degraded to name calling, and rebublican bashing. It is sick over there. Honestly the rank and file of the AARP are not against the military. Many Many Many are veterans, and lived through the "war era". They are not neccesarily for Gay Marriage either. although I am speaking only about the AARP members that I KNOW.... Their values, and morals do not allow room for anything like Gay Marriage. That may have something to do with the fact that I live in Northern Maine and the views here are predominantly conservative. I can only comment on what I know to be true though.

12 Boy, us libruls sure are doing a great job of bringing back Communism, ain't we. Bwah ha ha ha! And as far as hanging burnt corpses from bridges, traditionally that's been more of a right wing thing -- in THIS country, anyway.
