The Canine Play Bow
Animal researchers have recently described the Canine Play Bow, which is recognized not only by domesticated dogs but also wild canine species such as foxes and wolves. It seems to be a way for a dog to say, "Let's play! We'll romp and nip...even sniff butts!"

I call myself REMF 'cause any leg who has to leave the FOB and go out on patrol while I sit in relative safety will call me a REMF, or a FOBbit. I don't mind. I have nothing to prove. I think if you showed the pic to any number of people, and asked what the dog on the left was saying to the one on the right, you'd get a pretty high percentage of correct guesses. But it's a cute name or label for the "gesture". Something like the slightly hunched posture with arms partly spead and wiggling tickle-fingers forward dads use to invite play with their toddlers and infants, I think!
