Task Force Created to Search for Missing French Reporter

- FoxNews

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Interior Ministry has launched a search operation for a missing French journalist and her translator, a ministry official said, amid a possible witness account that they were abducted in downtown Baghdad.

Florence Aubenas, a reporter for the daily newspaper Liberation, and translator Hussein Hanoun al-Saadi were last seen Wednesday morning leaving Aubenas' hotel in the Iraqi capital.

The Interior Ministry official said that so far they have no information or leads on their whereabouts.

As posted yesterday, it was not known for sure if Florence Aubenas and her interpreter were taken hostage or not, however with the Iraqi Interior Minister creating a task force to find her, it does lead more credibility to her being taken hostage. I can just hope and pray she doesn't end up in a beheading video.

1 It was also posted that a female translator in northern Iraq had been killed. Not sure where this journalist went missing but how many female translators in Iraq are there? Cindy

2 What I don't understand is why a task force for a french journalist? France isn't helping Iraq. France won't even let their NATO troops go to Darfur. France will not help anyone but themselves. Anyone who goes into Iraq without body guards and whatnot is taking a real chance with their lives; it's just not safe for (caucasians!!) "westerners" of any type to go there and journalists are the worst - especially embedded journalists who are in the enemy's camp covering the war. WTF? There's a piece around somewhere with Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and another tv bigwig in which they were asked if they were embedded with the enemy and the friendlies were coming down the road. They were asked by the enemy if they would go meet them, talk with them, so they can ambush them, would they do it. Peter Jennings immediately said "NO" while the others looked at him and berated him for that answer and then he hemmed and hawed until he went to their side of things. Of course, the only person who was right was the initial response of NO. Therefore, if journalists are going to go to Iraq where it is not safe, they should not be there alone and stick with the troops or the coalition but stay the hell out of their way for the troops do not need to worry about the journalists, too, because it could get them killed. So when journalists go into a country like Iraq, they are taking a chance, a very big chance - especially a woman - and what happens to them is up to what they do. Since it took over 4 months to get 2 french male journalists back after lots of ransom which only helps the terrorists, any woman, at any time, should never go into countries like this for any reason. The country has enough to do without having to make a task force to look for her. If there is a task force, then they are not telling everything they know. She's just another ransom to the terrorists. Now if she were in Pakistan being held by terrorists, it wouldn't take long for Musharaff to do something about it and if she got killed in the process, just part of the job. (ie 2 chinese workers being held in Pakistan earlier and it's end results) So I'm sorry, screw the task force and she should be elsewhere. Cindy
