Keep your eye on Latin America. The Wash Times
that after the success of the recent riots and revolution in Bolivia, the armed indigenous movement might spread to Peru, with a little help from Chavez.

Why do you silly motorcycle diary-reading paranoiacs give a Piggamus' ass what happens in Bolivia? Do you own property there? Maybe the locals are PISSED OFF at having their wealth snatched away by greedy Hallibacons.

We've already unsuccessfully tried to topple Hugo Chavez' government in Venezuala once. This is merely an attempt to gear up for a second try at a coup d'etat.

I'm with Downing on this. Let the indians topple those thieving corrupt regimes. At least they're not trying to squirrel across our borders. Mexicans should do the same with their own corrupt plutocracy and leave us in peace.

They won't so long as their is an escape route leading north. It is easier, safer and more lucrative to run here than stay and fight to make their own country better. If we ever do manage to shut down the southern border, which I doubt will ever happen, we may well see civil war in Mexico.

I think it was Kissinger who once referred to South America as “The dagger poised at the throat of Antarctica.”

Anyone in here remember what Bechtel tried to privatize WATER down there? What an upheaval. People weren't even allowed to legally collect water on their roof tops! I can't believe some of the evil, greedy shit corporations try to get away with... On the flip side though, there's been plenty of news of fat cats gettin' busted. When the Enron folks are behind bars tossing someone's salad, I'll feel that justice has been served!

'Anyone in here remember what Bechtel tried to privatize WATER down there?'
Yup. Ever looked at a map of federally owned lands in the US? When we inevitably default on our national debt, corporations, mostly foreign, will own our natural resources too.

I don't know the entire story on Bechtel ( a company headquartered in the most unionized, liberal. leftist city in America). Privatizeing water seems a horrible thing. Particularly when traitorous, leftist morons sprew the info to their beliefs.
Let me intertain a thought here. The county I live in is presently running water lines on major routes throughout the county. I must hook up to it and pay a minimun monthly charge. I don't need the water and don't want the water. I have two wells. One a 1200ft artisian that comes with 19 pounds of pressure free. I also have a well that operates my house and one of the barns. I also have 5 large ponds for water if needed. They are also going to dig up 1 1/2 miles of azalesa, gardinas and magnolia trees which I spent a lot of time and money to get started. One of my new fence lines will have to be moved.
Why am I going thru this crap. Simple, for the good of the entire community. It was voted on an passed. The democratic way. The only way to pay the cost of the new water line was for everyone to hook to it. I didn't vote for it. But the majority did.
Could the same thing be true with the Bechtel thing? Are lefties and anti American Corporationists hiding the entire story? Probably.

Rooster...no hiding anything here. Bechtel may have it's roost in the Gay Area, but it's sure as hell not liberal by any stretch. They are big GOP supporters as well. Basically, the people were getting screwed, and it was nothing like what you are going through. Unless your town was trying to tell you THEY own your water on your land and you can't take a sip without paying up the ass crazy fees for it. No wonder the people took to the street and fought. I think there was only one fatality, but plenty of wounded. There is no left or right in this story...only wrong. The corp. screwed the people and they fought back. In your case, I can see why they'd want to go through your land, but do you actually have to be hooked in too? That seems absurd for them to charge you for what you don't need. It's bad enough they have to rip up your land to get it around...

osamabinchimpin: As I said before I know little of Bechtel's business. I do know they are greedy and aggressive. My engineering firm head quartered in Walnut Creek took more than a few bad deals from the big guy on the block.
That must tear up some of my fences because they do not have adequate room between the ditch at side of road to run their machinery. Something I accept since I put the fences there without much forethought. I wanted the fence to be close to road so I can pick up the beer cans and McDonalds trash from inside the pasture.
Besides the monetary advantage they also ruled that the water hookup was needed in case you sold home. VA morgages etc: Since we do not have building codes in this county we normally accept the counties decisions to keep out the threat of having them. I'm probably the only pro-building code person in the county. Which they are quick to bring up that I am from California.
Funny thing I just realized is that they can take the water from my ponds for fire control in area. I signed away my rights when I agreed to let the Fish and Game Dept. stock my ponds for free. Nothings for free. I learn and then I learn some more.
Leaving for Vegas in the morning. Maybe I'll get on television. Have a nice week. I will.
