Riders Guard Soldier Funerals From Protesters

Stop the ACLU and Patriotic Mom post about protestors disrupting the funerals of Iraq War vets, and the extremes that their families have been driven to just to bury their loved ones with dignity.

Patriotguards.jpg In fact, five states in the Midwest may enact funeral protest bans, all because of a twisted minister and his mindless flock. Reverend Fred Phelps and members of his congregation from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas have been showing up at military funerals to proclaim what they consider God's judgement on a country that tolerates immorality.

Though the soldiers were not gay, the protesters say the deaths, as well as Hurricane Katrina, recent mining disasters and other tragedies are God's signs of displeasure. They also protested at the memorial service for the 12 West Virginia miners who died in the Sago Mine.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, Phelps's daughter and an attorney for the church, said if legislation passes, the group will challenge it in court. "Whatever they do would be unconstitutional," she said. "These aren't private funerals; these are patriotic pep rallies. Our goal is to call America an abomination, to help the nation connect the dots. You turn this nation over to the fags and our soldiers come home in body bags."

Some believe that the church group is deliberately seeking physical confrontations so that they can then sue for damages. Obviously, the solution is to keep these deluded imbeciles far enough away from private funeral services so that they are not able to disrupt them.

Unfortunately, that's not obvious to the ACLU.

Ed Yohnka, communications director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, said the bills are troubling from a free speech perspective. "We have some concerns about the vagueness of the language," Yohnka said about the proposed Illinois bill. ". . . One of the things that concerns us very much is the degree to which the bill blocks access to people engaged in political expression on public sidewalks. We think a 300-foot bubble is excessive."

1 Let's hope Congress pulls the ACLU's main source of money for lawsuits real soon.

2 A truly wacko fringe group that defies placement on the ideological scale.

3 These ACLU idiots couldn't spell respect, let alone define it.

4 55 years ago I thought the ACLU was against America because they were all a bunch of Commies. The last 20 years they have been backing fascists; so the are no Commies. They just hate America and patriotic Americans. Nuts to the ACLU!

5 Bikers--I don't know what it is about these guys. Their lifestyle has little resemblance to mine, but the ones I've met through a friend I've found to be the most decent, generous, loyal, and honest people around. They have a wild side, but so did the cowboys.

7 I got a call from some riders over in Jersey who wanted to know if me and some of my guys would be willing to help them out in this kind of thing, because they heard murmurs of this crap planned going on over there. Where and when. Damn, I'm in a rage today. Gotta find me a hippie and do some earnest kicking.

10 Over 100 Motorcycles from The American Freedom Veterans Awareness Organization came to help drown out the noise of the Phelps hate group protesting at Lc-Cpl Johnathan Kyle Price's funeral In Illinois recently. While the community did what it could to make sure that the protestors or their signs could not be seen , the Bikes did what they could to see that they were not heard either. Words can not describe the pain their " freedom of speech " must have caused to his family. What ever happened to the civil right to be able to practice one's religion , by entering a church in peace, and being able to practice one's religion, in a solemn and respectful burial of their loved one. ACLU only has respect for some peoples rights, when they choose sides , they choose who has the most rights. I wish this law had passed before Kyle's funeral. One other thought , if such protests continue, it won't be long before communities will tire of it , and civil unrest will follow. I understand that these protesters were taken for a long long ride for their own safety after the protest. I'm just waiting for them to sue my home town now. It's not like they haven't caused enough pain already. It has been almost a month , and I'm still furious. Kyle didn't deserve this , none of our soldiers or their families do.

11 The saddest part of this entire situation to me is the fact that these people claim to represent Jesus. To anyone who sees these people and hears their message I would say this: These people do NOT come from God and do NOT speak what God thinks of this nation. They are the most screwed up image of Christianity I have ever heard of.
