The only real comfort in that video, is the fact it gives the armed forces six days to locate them, and rescue.
That along with the fact they did not execute them in the time they held them. I'm not sure if it's my mind playing tricks but the execution of Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley wasn't very long after their capture.

Hmmm....I have speculated over the past few days about what motive any particular terrorist group would have to murder the CPT team. But this group is bad, and perhaps I was wrong. It wouldn't be the first or last time.
Because certain groups such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has called for their release, I am still hopeful that it will happen. We shall see.

The CPT and others better realize that - in Iraq they ARE NOT SEEN as anti-american pacifists and allies - they are seen as WESTERN INFIDELS AND INVADERS! AND FEAR AND TERROR DOES WORK WITH SOME!
Fortunately (odd thing for me to say), very few of the left and groups similar to CPT are in Iraq. (they apparently got the memo). They are here doing their thing from the comfort and safety of Western democracies.
Oddly too - hondo is on duty with many to provide for their (and everyone's) safety. Think they will sent me a Christmas card and say thank you?
Not likely - but I'm cool with that.

The release of all Iraqi detainees is an impossible demand and the terrorists know that. So perhaps the intention was to kill the hostages all along and then blame the US and Iraqi governments for not doing enough to save them even though they were being treated so nicely (Arabic sweets?). Alternatively, by asking for something that cannot be granted, perhaps the plan is to force the authorities to offer a hefty ransom instead - the main objective. I'm just speculating. Whatever it may be, I hope the guys on the ground get to them before the deadline.

Ouch. No matter how you interpret it, this is a very bad sign for the four CPT members and my heart goes out to them and their families. There have been a number of prominent calls for their release from within the Muslim community but they appear to have fallen on deaf ears. Given the 1-week deadline, not all hope is lost for a peaceful resolution but it never helps to have a ticking clock.

Agent Smith says that whatever the situation on the ground in Iraq is, the locals are not under central government control. Sadr City, for example is under the control of the Mehdi army and Moqtadr al-Sadr. Sadr City's Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army units answer to him.
The only people under U.S. control are the Iraqi Army, who were led by Special Forces in recent Anbar battles.

Does Agent Smith believe that what goes for the Sunni triangle goes for the rest of Iraq too? Is so, Agent Smith should guess again. Most of Iraq is directly under the control of the Iraqi government, even if the Sunni triangle is still a hotbed of terrorism.
