NASCAR Not Pleased With NBC Dateline

Yesterday, I posted about the sleazy attempt to create news by NBC Dateline, by sending Muslim ringers to NASCAR events, hoping to provoke and secretly videotape some juicy anti-Islamic reactions from NASCAR fans (Kudos to Michelle Malkin for letting this nasty little cat out of the bag).

NASCAR officials are not pleased that the NBC News division is hoping to make buffoons out of their fans. From MSNBC:

NASCAR said it was “outrageous” that “Dateline NBC” targeted one of its race tracks last weekend for a possible segment on anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States.

NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans’ reactions. The NBC crew was “apparently on site in Martinsville, Va., walked around and no one bothered them,” NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday.

“It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC’s stature would stoop to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news,” Poston said.

“Any legitimate journalist in America should be embarrassed by this stunt. The obvious intent by NBC was to evoke reaction, and we are confident our fans won’t take the bait,” he said.

That's assuming that "legitimate journalist" isn't an oxymoron, and that journalists are capable of embarrassment. I haven't seen much evidence that they are. Quick, someone check with Dan Rather, Eason Jordan, John Green, and Linda Foley.

1 All NBC needs is for one bubba to do a double take, and one of the a-rabs to say it made him feel "tense", and NBC has their story.

2 Carlos, please don't refer to Southerners as "Bubbas", it's insulting and condescending. I don't insult your people, and I ask the same of you. Now, having said that; they must think these good old boys won't go sideways on them in a hearbeat if they want to start some crap. If muslims cause us trouble, they'll get a war of extermination, because we don't like anyone causing trouble, and especially not some damn parasitic foreigners who think we should kiss their asses. If they start a war, they won't be able to live in any part of the South for too long, except maybe Florida and Atlanta. We're sick of everyone telling us how we should be and what we should do. We're generally civilized people, and most of us treat anyone as they treat us, and we're more polite than anyone else in the country on average. This is why so many people are moving to the South, and if they make good neighbors, they're welcome to live here, but if not, they're welcome to leave. The muslims are welcome to leave.

4 "NASCAR officials are not pleased that the NBC News division is hoping to make buffoons out of their fans." I'd be more worried about hte fans making fools of themselves.

5 Rectus would actually be worried about breaking a nail.

6 >>>Carlos, please don't refer to Southerners as "Bubbas", it's insulting dude, bubba's an insult? If I thought so, I wouldn't have said it. As I see it, they are this country's last best hope against Lefties like actus. So I don't see it as an insult by any means.

7 >>>I'd be more worried about hte fans making fools of themselves. actus, With this story, the MSM already beat them to it.

Posted by: Jesusland Carlos at April 06, 2006 12:01 AM (8e/V4)

8 "bubba's an insult?" I think it was Clinton that said "Bubba is southern for mensch."

9 Is it me, or has something gone seriously wrong with Michelle Malkins profile pic. I've refreshed it, but the same one keeps popping up.

10 Actus, you need to sit this one out because you don't know what you're talking about. IM you are so right about southerners. Contrary to popular belief, there is less racism in the rural south than there is in any urban setting anywhere in the country. Far less. The people are much friendlier and neighbors help each other out with no expectations. I would ask one thing though in regards to Florida. North Florida is quite different than South Florida. So when referring to us Floridians, that distinction must be made. South Florida is a bastion of liberalism and lefties. We in North Florida are "southerners". We still know what hospitality is and what it means to have manners.

11 Actus, you need to sit this one out because you don't know what you're talking about. But when isn't that the case?

Posted by: Robert Crawford at April 06, 2006 05:28 AM (n5eDP)

12 Robert, for the life of me, I just can't come up with a single time. Darn, you're right.

Posted by: jesusland joe at April 06, 2006 05:39 AM (rUyw4)

13 Carlos: Yeah, "Bubba" is insulting, because nobody in the South calls a Southern man "Bubba". Oyster: You're right, North Florida is the home of Lynyrd Skynyrd, et al, and you just can't get more Southern than that. My apologies. And Rectus: Bubba is Southern for mensch? Wow, two complete misses with one shot!

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at April 06, 2006 06:27 AM (0yYS2)

14 "And Rectus: Bubba is Southern for mensch? Wow, two complete misses with one shot!" Who knows if it was right. But it went over well when he called it in to a NYC radio station.

Posted by: actus at April 06, 2006 07:49 AM (nnhSu)

15 No problem, IM. Hence the term "Florida Crackers" much like "Georgia Crackers". We consider Daytona the longitudinal delimiter.

16 DATELIES DATLELIES DATELIES its time to make road kill out of NBCs lying no good peacock

Posted by: sandpiper at April 06, 2006 08:22 AM (e/auS)

17 What the hell, I don't mind NBC going to a NASCAR race, even if it is for baiting purposes — with a few conditions. First, if they're really going to "prove" something (and I use the term loosely), let's not limit it to "flag-wavin' Southern redneck" events; do the same thing at Fenway, at a West-Coast PGA tournament, at a Midwestern Six Flags amusement park, and any place else where large numbers of people gather. Then one could at least draw some slightly - and only slightly - more legit (for TV news anyway) conclusions. Seriously, wouldn't it be revealing if the "A-rabs" got their lynching at The Masters rather than The Brickyard?

18 Well, I would like to see NBC go to a few mosques here in the US and see if there is any hate literature around. Or listen in to one of the imams when he thinks all the infidels are gone. Now that would be interesting, and it also might give all those NASCAR fans something to worry about, as a terrorist bombing by radical Muslims is much more likely than an attack on a Muslim by NASCAR fans. I doubt whether actus and his ilk would be very concerned about a terrorist attack at a NASCAR event anyway. They would probably say serves them right. That king of hate is what drives these NBC bigots to target NASCAR in the first place.

Posted by: jesusland joe at April 06, 2006 09:28 AM (rUyw4)

19 What would be interesting if they sent someone in the NBC news studios with a W. or Newt shirt on and see the abuse and discrimination. Or even send in someone with an american flag or a cross on their shirt. They would be treated much worse than any muslim at NASCAR.

Posted by: Mike Clement at April 06, 2006 09:44 AM (0WGup)

20 I don't know about any of these examples, they're all conjecture, but if NBC is trying to prove bigotry at the typical NASCAR event, and they show that a Muslim got his ass kicked by asking directions to the can or something, it'll mean nothing unless the same thing takes place at other events deemed less "Southern." If NBC is smart, they'll spread the experiment around.

21 I was listening to “The Herd” on ESPN this am and they were talking about this. I guess it is true. Hard to believe NBC would put their NASCAR investment in jeopardy to appease Rock Phillips and his arrogant pals in the news division. NASCAR fans are very loyal to the sponsors and go out of their way to buy the goods and services advertised on the cars. Reason enough for these companies to pay all that money to get their name on the hood. I’m sure the reverse of this will be true as well. Any company dumb enough to buy airtime for Dateline will probably feel it in the pocketbook. Note to NBC: If you want to see real discrimination and intolerance, park an SUV with “W” and “Abortion is Murder” bumper stickers around the green lake area of Seattle and leave it for a day. Pick up the rig at 5 and see how tolerant the left really is.

22 Mike , I typed my post before reading your's. Same idea.

Posted by: Brad at April 06, 2006 09:56 AM (BJYNn)

23 WHAT THE F***!!! And NBC was trying to get more NASCAR coverage in recent contract talks? I guess if you can't win, just resort to tactics like the LOWLIFE SCUM at Dateline. Not to worry NBC, DISH and DIRECT TV offer so much more than you could ever hope to. As far as the races go, I'll just listen to the on MRN or PRN via local radio and not hassle with the BS provided by the hosts. By the way, that means that I won't be observing all of those high price ads from the sponsors. Sorry!! One last jab: NBC=NOTHING BUT CRAP! Fitting, don't you think?

Posted by: NASCARFAN at April 06, 2006 01:14 PM (aGfEe)

24 Oyster, the term "Florida Cracker" is in reference to the old Florida cowboys who rounded up the wild cattle left by the Spanish; apparently they used bullwhips like the Australians instead of lariats like the Western cowboys, and so were "whipcrackers". The term "cracker" applied by blacks to Southen whites in general also refers to whipcrackers, but as slave masters, not cattle drivers. I could be wrong, but what research I've done, including talking to a couple of old-timers, bears this out.

25 Well IM! I learn something new everyday. But I seem to have a vague memory of hearing that once.

29 I want to go to Mecca, with my Bikini Clad Nascar wife. Would they look at us and frown? Would they look at us, and drag my wife up to the chopping block for plastic surgery? Headless is hopeless in Mecca. Or would they let my Bikini clad wife off the plane, or on the plane, in the first place? Would NBC do a segment on Muslim Rascism to Infidels like us? Come on NBC, have some guts for once, in your made up for news programing charade. Send some white boys to Mecca. See how far you get. Send some American servicemen into Japanese bars in Tokyo. The Japanese won't serve them, and tell them to leave. They are not welcome. "No American's," they smile, as they tell you to leave. They even kick out the blacks. They are equal oportunity rascists. There's some NBC rascist stories for you. At least we let them into the race. That's more than I can say for the Muslims with Mecca, and the Japanese with their Bars.

30 Nice try nbc with the nascar fiasco. no wonder nbc is constantly at the bottom of the ratings. Is'nt there enogh news out there, instead of trying to create news. I laughed so hard seeing your reporter in a canoe on a flooded street in ankle deep water. How about putting orthodox jews into a mosque? Your condescending view of middle america is disturbing.

31 This is not the first lie ever seen on NBCs program DATELINE way back in 1993 they tried to wreck GM with a big story over GM pick-ups they tried to claim that GM pick-ups eurpt in flames in a collision its was later found out that NBC had rigged the whole thing by over filling the tank used the wrong sized gas cap and used a inciterrary divice to get what they wanted WRING THAT PEACOCKS NECK then they tried to go after the timber industry with another false story about clear cutting and fish kills WRING THAT PEACOCKS NECK HANG IT BEAT IT ROAST IT KILL IT
