Misplaced Crapper-aquiddick Outrage?

I've been giving this Koran desecration story some thought and I am beginning to feel like some of those who think there is some misplaced outrage being expressed over this fiasco.

Take this statement from the Pakistani Information Minister for example:

"The apology and retraction are not enough," Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told Reuters.

"They should understand the sentiments of Muslims and think 101 times before publishing news which hurt feelings of Muslims."

Now, on the surface, this is a statement that doesn't really offend until you think about what WASN'T said; namely, that the violence that occured after this article went out was uncalled for and should be condemned.

Put me down for saying that Newsweek acted irresponsibly and did, in fact, damage the reputation of the United States of America without cause. But really, who did the killing here? It wasn't Newsweek. Although, an argument can be made that Newsweek essentially loaded the guns. These terrorists are looking for excuses to attack...Newsweek gave them one. But it is still nothing more than an excuse to kill the innocent.

And that should be causing more outrage than it currently is...

2 "namely, that the violence that occured after this article went out was uncalled for and should be condemned"-From the Main Posting The violence was directed at the protesters. It was the protesters who were shot dead. Get your facts straight!

3 So the violence happened BEFORE the article went out? Is that what you're saying, Greg? Wow...the terrorists have a time machine. Greg has the proof...

4 No Matt, dumb dumb. The violence occured after the article but it was perpetrated by the Afghan government on the protesters.

5 ...and that's because??? Oh, let me guess...The Afghani Chapter of Mikey Moore's Minutemen were just having a prayer breakfast when all hell broke out for no apparent reason.

6 OK, all y'all need an update: FOX News just said it was Terri Shiavo who wrote that Newsweek article AND it was Dick Cheney himself who gnawed the Koran in half and flushed it down the toilet after taking a smelly Hallibacon dump on it. They have also just reported that Bush is also a hologram and that Illuminati have been duping us all along! Other news included that the world is actually flat & that Jeff 'Gannon the Butt cannon' is in fact straight as a steel yard stick. (Gayrooster, please stop sending love letters) What a fun world we live in...

9 Not that I condone such things, but I suppose turnabout is fair play...although I suspect there will be much outrage from the likes of Greg...

12 If the Afghan police shot the rioters, all I can say is that there are 15 (some say 17) fewer jerks out there. Way to go!

13 "The violence was directed at the protesters. It was the protesters who were shot dead. Get your facts straight!" Some were simply protesting, burning the American flag and whatnot, these are people the police merely watched to make sure the situation didn't escalate. They were peaceful demonstrations. But some in other areas weren't simply "protesters". They were a mob. Smashing windows in cars and shops, destroying property and attacking people. These are the people they fired on. And before you throw out another accusation, it was the Afghan police, not Americans. Hello? Get your facts straight.
