Reason #5,432 That the Border Needs to be Closed
From the people who brought you such acts of terrorism as
Moscow Theater Massacre and
Downing Two Russian Planes comes the long-awaited sequel to their recent blockbuster:
Beslan II: American Bombing Bugaloo U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.
Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona that is difficult for U.S. border security agents to monitor, said officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.

This sounds so ominously familier to the "group of terrorists inside the country ready to strike the financial district of New York" scare mongering we heard in September.
But ofcourse Homeland Insecurity has spent 30 Billion of my tax money (Rather than 14 billion earlier) and shored up the borders that were NEVER secure in the first place. If they would spend a few million more on the border than we do giving tax breaks to the business assholes we might just get it done.

Christopher Reeve: Down Like a Clown Charlie Brown
Christopher Reeve dead? No. He joins the ranks of Elvis, JFK, and Sasquatch in their banishment. His crime? Look, it's not so much that he was a smoothe criminal as the fact that he was a selfish prick who became a martyr, a hero, and a poster child for the
Oprah-ization of America. You're next Michael J. Fox. Can I make another inappropriate observation here? I suspect that the amount of grief suffered by the average American citizen in learning that Reeve is dead is proportionately related to their probability of voting for John Kerry.

OK Rusty... I think I am younger than you are. I grew up as Christopher Reeves was playing Superman. I have no idea wut his social, political, or really anything about his background. But, being a woman and BLONDE he was a hell of a hunk SUPERMAN....

I started to feel sad this morning when I learned of his passing as he was my first glimspe of superman as a child but then my wonderful husband brought me to my senses by reminding me of the fact that he was a stark raving liberal.
Not only that but he got hurt and then wanted everyone to hurry and find a way to cure him even if it meant making abortion legal.
A real superman would have perfered to stay dibilitated had it meant innocent babies would die.

Folks, it looks to me as if we have sunk to the same level as the liberals. Imagine the rejoicing in liberal-land if Rush Limbaugh died. This smacks of the same thing. Regardless of his politics, the self-centeredness of his campaigns, or as the Maximum Leader points out the fall he may have brought on himself, he was still a human-being that was loved by his family, and did have a pretty awful life after his accident. Definitely attack his positions as stated, but don't turn it into a rejoicing over his death.

I don't think anyone is rejoicing over his death. I just think we're being honest about our opinions of his obnoxious politics. I wouldn't wish that kind of existence on anyone, leftist or not. While the rest of the media praises Superman, some of us are just being honest about our opinions. I feel for his family, but I'm not going to lie about it and call him "hero".

Tell me about dirty politics....my bro worked for 20 years at the same job, one wkend he went mountain biking and after an accident became paralized. He had 2 million worth of healthcare, when that ran out, he had to go on medicare and state aid. He needed a new wheelchair, ordered by several doctors, but medicare ect. wouldn't pay for it so he developed a sore, which turned into a colostomy, surgeries and several months in rehab later his brand new wheel chair is sitting at his apt. He now has to stay in bed..and the chair it's just sitting there. How is that even cost effective. Plus it's not even you taxpayers footing the bill; there is a lawsuit about to be settled and the state and the feds have already decided how much he owes them. Laugh at Reeve if you want to...he was hope for a lot of ppl. BTW my bro votes for Bush and my family is primarily right- to the extreme (except for a few of us) My bro is sad about Reeve's death but won't be voting for Kerry, but maybe if I show him your post he'll change his mind.

Superman was terribly bored with fighting crime, so one Friday night he decided to go out on the town to have some fun for a change.
He dropped by Batman's house. "Hey Batman," he said. "Wanna' go out tonight?"
"No, I can't," replied Batman. "The Batmobile is broken and I gotta' stay home and fix it, or else I won't be able to fight crime."
"You loser," said Superman, and he flew away in disgust.
He then decided to stop by Spiderman's house. "Hey, Spidey, how about hitting the town tonight, you and me," he said.
"I'd love to, but I can't," replied Spiderman. "My web-slinger is jammed and I gotta fix it in order to fight crime."
Superman, all disgusted, quipped: "You loser. Go ahead--stay home on a Friday night and fix your damned web-slinger."
He again flew away.
While flying around the city looking for something to do, his super vision spotted Wonder Woman lying on her back, stark naked and spread-eagle!
Superman thought, "Hey, I'm Superman, so I can fly down there at the speed of light, have a quickie and she'll never know the difference!"
Wonder Woman said, "What the hell was that?"
The Invisible Man said, "I don't know, but it hurt like hell!"

Second Presidential Debate, my take
The debate? Who the hell cares. I didn't watch it. The debates are unimportant. All they show is who is the best debator. We are not electing the Debator in Chief. The clips I saw showed John Kerry lying and trying to come off as a moderate when he's really an anti-death penalty, radical abortion supporting (he voted against partial birth), anti-military, maggot infested Yale version of a hippie. And yes, he is a great actor. He sure knows how to act like a moderate.
I have only seen one post on the debate, no time right now to get the blogosphere reaction. Let me just plug the one post I have seen. Professor Chaos introduces a first to the blogosphere: crackblogging. Drunkblogging is just so last year, and liveblogging? Fahget about it!
Go check out the post: Crackblogging the Debate
Much more important news than last night's non-event is that the Afhanistan elections are on and the Conservatives have won again in Australia. Way to go!
I'm going to spend the rest of the day with my family. I suggest you do the same.

These debates are soooo pointless... it's a bit like the Prime Ministers Question Time we have here in the UK.
Basically, you look through all the million and one decisions a government has made over the last 4 years and pick the ones that have proved wrong and hammer the point home.
Keeping in context here, what would Kerry have done post 9/11??? Really... what would HE have done? There is no way of telling and any answer he gives is a lie. Until he (or anyone one of us) is faced with being in sole charge of a country with the power and size of the USA and something like that happens, there is NO WAY of knowing.
In all of our daily lives, shit happens and we are in charge of that department, and we wish that particular shit hadn't happened on our shift... the President is ultimately in charge of ALL departments on ALL shifts.
It's a hiding to nothing as one party is empowered with a retrospective analysis (and can thus make up their "policy" to suit) and the other did what their policy said to do at the time.

She Wore a Rasberry Bomb Belt: new Prince video blames American intolerance for terrorism
I just got finished watching Prince's newest video for
Cinnamon Girl (via
NEIN). You can view the video by
clicking this link.
Let's just say you're not going to believe what the man who used to party like it was 1999 has to say about the GWOT. Some of you may already know that Prince gave up his little red Corvette to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses. That's cool. I respect a faith where extremism is limited to pacifism and the occasional refusal to give blood. You ever hear of an extremist Jehovah's Witness blowing people up? No. That's funny, I thought all religions were basically the same?
Anyway, with his new found insight into God Prince has produced a disgusting song with an equally disgusting video. The story line goes something like this:
Normal looking American girl, happens to be Arab. 9/11. Arab girl gets harassed by intolerant classmates. Arab family gets harassed by intolerant neighbors. Arab family demands Arab girl dress more like an Arab. Arab girl turns to Allah. Arab girl walks in through the out door. Arab girl gets harassed by Homeland Security at airport. Arab girl blows up self and everyone at airport up.
Moral of the story: Intolerant Americans to blame for cycle of violence.
And to think I once thought Prince was cool--not da bomb like the greatest band that ever was, you know, Morris Day and the Time--but cool nonetheless.

I'm on dial-up and can't watch the video (not patient enough) - is this the same song as Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl, or did he just steal the title?

I know what you mean, Johnny Walker Red. What I don't understand is the purpose of the video or of the song? Isn't he kind of promoting violence here?
By the way, even on dialup, it's doesn't take that long, even to download the AOL player and it's worth it. I put it on full screen. Just because radical muslim terrorists caused 9/11 which was the first scene, (the girl obviously goes to private school since they all had the same uniform) what makes him think the American people are going to blame Muslim Arabs here? What does "Cinnamon Girl" have to do with whatever message he was trying to get across? The guy is looney tunes and the only reason he's in the public eye again is because Michael Jackson is not - and look what he produces? I played it twice trying to figure it out but unfortunately I was unable to do so.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion. But obviously many of you forgot how American's stereotyped many Arab American's after 9/11. IE: not going on airplanes if an arab was flying as well, saying hateful words to Arab Americans who have been living here and born here their entire life. The song is about someone on the receiving end. And it's sad many of you cannot see this in the lyrics. As for the video, she doesn't blow up the airport it was a mere thought in the girl's head of perhaps this is what they expected her to do with all the "terrorist scum", slander and passport checks she's circumed to. Open your minds.

Its about common sense. The threat of Islamic extremist terrorism is coming from Arabs and other Islamics so that is the group you have to focus on just like if the police got a description of a blonde blue-eyed man committing a series of robberies, they'd have to zero in on blonde blue-eyed man.Common sense and safety before political correctness and sensitivity Christopher.

i'll take that as an excuse. arab cab drivers and store owners were being beat up within the few weeks following 9/11. people are reacting to this video becuz it's something some people do not want to face. Rana Abbas, deputy director of the Midwest chapter of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee said about the video, "It was shocking, but in a good way. Prince is the first major recording artist to address the prejudice and issues that (Arab-Americans) are facing after 9/11, and I think he has done it in a very powerful way."
i personally see nothing wrong with the video and absolutely nothing wrong within the lyrics. i think they are very sincere lyrics actually.

I'm against beating up Arab-American store owners, cab drivers etc. etc. and never said otherwise. I'm simply saying when it comes to security in this country, we're going to have to scrutinize people from the Islamic world much more closely and severely restrict their entrance and immigration into the USA because that is where the terrorism threat is the greatest. It's true most Islamic people are not terrorists however even if only 1/2 of 1 percent of the Islamic people in this country were terrorists, that is still a huge security risk. Securtiy should be done in a civil and polite way but it has to be done as public safety comes before "political correctness."

The moral of the Prince video is NOT Intolerant Americans are to blame for cycle of violence. What the hell video were you viewing?
What's wrong with you people who are denouncing this video? Can you not grasp the messages in this video? Or are you just outright dismissing Prince as a washed up artist with nothing relevant to say? By the way, a washed up artist doesn't get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and sell out every single show of his 2004 concert tour - but I digress. The message of the video is that INNOCENT Arab-Americans were the targets of hate crimes after 9-11. That's a fact. The airport scene is a DREAM SEQUENCE in which the girl imagines herself blowing up the aiport. THE MESSAGE HERE IS THAT VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE. The video gives a happy ending in this not so happy ending world in that her thoughts of revenge become undone. One can come to the conclusion that she rises above the ignorance and hatred and walks away. Instead of attacking an artist for his commentary on a not so warm and fuzzy subject, engage in intelligent conversation. That was the point of the video. Unfortanately, some folks are incapable of even that. No wonder we are at war.

For some this video "causes them to see the controversy and not the message. It could also be that the ones expressing the most outrage over this Prince video are of the same ilk as those who would persecute Muslims for being Muslims. It’s just a video. It doesn’t denounce the United States of America. It denounces racism. It doesn’t promote terrorism, it promotes tolerance. It provides a portal into the mind of a fictional character who is angry and frustrated enough to contemplate — but never act upon — the worst. I’ve contemplated — but never acted upon — the worst, whatever that was for me. I’d venture to guess that most people have, whatever it is for them. If you insist you haven’t had dark thoughts at moments of peak anger, you’re either a saint or a liar. Prince illuminates these dark thoughts in an effort to raise awareness. He’s not trivializing terrorism, he’s urging understanding. If he has to show a bomb going off in an airline terminal in order to achieve his goal, it’s probably because there are a lot of people out there who don’t seem to be getting the message otherwise. Certain people need a bomb to explode — figuratively speaking — in order to make them pay attention. "

I'm am so sick of hearing the terms "tolerance" and "racism" when there is talk of Muslims in the USA being scrutinized more closely. The main terrorism threat now is coming from the Muslim world so as such, we have to scrutinize Muslim people much more closely. It's better to have Muslims inconvienced than planes hijacked. It's old-fashioned common sense, not racism. Wake up people.

Racial profiling leads its way around to the same thing that happened in past. Thank god some of these wack jobs arent running for fucking congress or history will repeat itself. It happened with jews and it happened with japanese. Both of them started out with be racially "SCRUTINIZED" and we all know(well most of us at least here on this message board) know what that led to. Both of the prisoners enslaved or lets harsh way putting the people who were so called "SCRUTINIZED" were "SCRUTINIZED" by politicians or dictators who were either were conservative or dare I say FACIST!(A much more extreme conservative or as I like to put a conservative gone wrong) both of them two sides of one coin. Is it possible to march backwards in a parade?
I rode with the Culver Black Horse Troop in Lyndon Johnson's inaugural parade in 1965, which was something of a thrill. As an underclassman, however, I was issued this stubborn nag aptly christened "Jughead," and the horse pretty much managed to ignore me completely. It taught me who was boss by nearly breaking my nose pulling its head down almost to its foot, pulling me down over the neck, and then rearing it's head skyward with great force and equine enthusiasm. WHAM, right in the kisser! Just about knocked me out.
When we reached the reviewing stand where the President was stationed the animal managed to do a 180 and trotted backwards, in cavalry precision. I had no idea what was going on, and no real way to control the horse, so I just enjoyed the novelty and people applauded because they thought I had done it on purpose, as a kind of exhibition. It was easier for my family to pick me out on TV that way, at least.
Yep, it's possible. Even on horesback. But it requires a certain skill level...

OK, so should Spain be put on the "sold out" list and all future liberations be cancelled now? France and Germany have already shown they feel they don't need the U.S., so with Spain now following suit (and I too didn't even know that France had troops), maybe we should tell them that not only do they get NO PIECE of the reconstruction in Iraq (or whoever our next target(s) is/are), but also that we will NOT be at their beck and call when (not if) they are invaded by the "islam-o-facists"

British Author Proclaims Hatred for America
How did I miss the original Guardian piece? Thanks to reader JSmith for pointing this
Jewish World Review article out. In the original article Margaret Drabble says:
"My anti-Americanism has become almost uncontrollable. It has possessed me, like a disease. It rises up in my throat like acid reflux, that fashionable American sickness. I now loathe the United States and what it has done to Iraq and the rest of the helpless world. I can hardly bear to see the faces of Bush and Rumsfeld, or to watch their posturing body language, or to hear their self-satisfied and incoherent platitudes."
Mona Charen, the author of this article, adds:
Drabble is right to compare her America-hatred to a disease. There is something sickly about the European approach to the world. There may even be something suicidal in it. Europeans excoriate America even as they stand on quicksand. In what Middle Eastern scholar and JWR columnist Daniel Pipes calls the biggest story of our time, Europe is disappearing.

Mount St. Helens Update
I just checked the
latest live pic from Mount St. Helens. Either she's blowing her top again, or it's really-really foggy.
UPDATE: Ricky V. drops this comment: I found this at the bottom of the volcano cam picture...
Weather Note - October 06, 2004 at 9:00 am PDT - There is nothing wrong
with the above image. You are viewing rain and clouds at Mount St.
Helens right now as a weather front moves through the Pacific Northwest.

It is pretty rainy here in the PNW today, and that cam's at a high altitude. Besides, last time I checked, the ash was blowing to the North, and the cam's to the south. I could be wrong, and even if it's the weather, the volcano may be adding to the mix.

Haitians Learn From Terrorists, Begin Beheading Opponents
Remember the good old days when followers of ousted Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide terrorized their opponents with the more civilized
lacing (that's where they put a tire around your neck and then light it on fire)? Yes, this is the same ousted president Jean-Bertrand Aristide that Clinton restored to power by invading Haiti--without going to the UN for authorization.
CBC News:
Supporters of ousted Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide have begun to imitate the insurgency in Iraq, using machetes to decapitate officers in their clashes with police.
Seven police officers are among at least 18 killed in violence that broke out in the capital Port-au -Prince last week, said judicial police chief Michael Lucius. Another officer is in hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Three of the killed police officers were shot then decapitated during clashes last week with pro-Aristide demonstrators.

Karl Marx Beheads Journalist
Yesterday I ran with
this story about the murder of Bangladeshi journalist Dipankar Chakrabarty. Since Bangladesh is a Muslim country, and beheading has long since been used as a form of punishment under Sharia law, I jumped to the conclusion that this was the work of radical Islamists.
Jane points out that Rezwan of 3rd
World View blogs from Bangladesh and notes that several other journalists in the area have been murdered by Marxist rebels. My bad. I'll have to add
Commies to my list of suspects the next time another beheading video emerges.

Ifex
has this: Police said the assailants were most likely "professionals." RSF says Chakrabarty had earlier told the press freedom group that he had been threatened for writing about local politicians who were reportedly protecting criminal organisations.
They also note Bangladesh has the unhappy distinction as being rated the most corrupt country in the world for the third year in a row, as if the people aren't facing enough problems from nature, this man made disater is also devastating the country.
Thanks for the update and the link. Rezwan is a great blogger BTW.

N KoreaÂ’s computer hackers target US
Financial Times:
North Korea has trained as many as 600 computer hackers to be capable of launching a cyber-war on South Korea, the US or Japan, South KoreaÂ’s defence ministry said on Monday....
North KoreaÂ’s military command has 500 to 600 hacking staff who have undertaken a five-year university programme, the report said. Their main task is to gather intelligence from - or launch a cyber attack on - the US, Japan and South Korea.

John Kerry's Lice Infested Hippies on Parade
I just got through reading John Kerry's 1971 book
The New Soldier. You can download the whole thing for free in PDF at
Free Kerry Book. The thing that struck me most wasn't all of the upside down American flags. No, it was the hair. The hippies in the photos have the most disgusting, lice infested, matted, hemp-smelling gross hair I've ever seen. Check out all the photos of John Kerry in the book and one theme emerges:
he's always at least a foot away from from a potential lice infestation. One photo shows a fellow 'new soldier' saying something in JFK's ear, but if you look closely you will notice that this isn't one of the unbathed tools--no, the one guy Kerry gets close to appears to be a fellow blue-blooded Yalie, recently washed.
Now excuse me while I go wash my hands. I sort of got the heebie-jeebies from looking at all that stuff. Hat tip: Charles Johnson

Christmas in Sweden
I went to Sweden once. Really. It was the middle of winter. We took the slow boat from Riga, Latvia, on Christmas day 1995. We then took a train from Stockholm up to some town in northern Sweden. Oh, the joy of spending Boxing Day at IKEA and eating $10 burgers in the land where the sun never rises!
So, on the way back to Stockholm, this time on a bus, we sit next to this lady. Young, maybe mid-thirties. She invited us to stay at her house rather than at the youth hostel we were booked in. Then she starts crying, literally, because the government was going to stop paying her workers compensation claim. What was her injury? I quote: "Working makes me nervous." We turned down her invite. That youth hostel was the best investment I ever made.
And in case you're wondering--four hours on the bus and every song was ABBA. Serious. It was on a loop. You ever hear ABBA in the original Swedish?
So to recap: Northern Sweden, in the dead of winter, on a student budget, ABBA in Swedish, and welfare moms.
Let's just say I didn't have the highest opinion of Sweden going into this post by Jeff (via Brian B.).
I might just add that Canada has a similar censorship law. It's the PC domino affect.

Sounds better than our bus ride from Hell in 1992... started out in Helsinki and went all the way to St. Petersburg with one stop in Viborg (sp?)
I can empathize with the prices in Scandinavia too... we flew out through Moscow with a lengthened layover in Stockholm because of an SAS flight attendant strike then on to Copenhagen where we spent the night.
The Burger King near Tivoli Gardens seemed pretty outrageous after paying less than a dollar for a full meal at the (original) Moscow McDonald's (near Pushkin Square) less than a week earlier.
McD's in Helsinki the night before we went on the bus ride didn't seem quite as expensive as BK in Denmark.

Duane is reporting another eruption happening during a USGS press conference. Below is a real time image of the volcano. Check for updated images by clicking 'refresh' or 'reload' on your browser. 12:24 CDT: I'm no expert, but that looks pretty big to me! 1:05 CDT: This was just a burp, as they say. Listening to the speaker live on that feed now - says this is not the one they expected - it's not the blow from the magma. So it's another burp. But cool....it doesn't change the hazards right now but who knows when it will??? just what we need more tragedy. The magma is moving up, it's either going to come up or stop. He says there will be more steam and ash erupting for awhile or several times before the big one comes.
It's not over; its'part of the process. Whether the magma happens or not, only time will tell.

Yeah, it didn't look like much more than ash and steam from the feed -- when the big one goes again, you'll probably see as much horizontal action as vertical.

It is constantly changing...constant releasing... constant earthquakes..not one event ... many events continually.. constantly changing minute by minute and it would be terrible to miss it. USGS says it's not an exact science but they've already got a list of things for people to have on their person. This live feed is great, Rusty - not the one from Fox but the Channel 8 live feed. Cool
There's a lot of water..but once CO2 is more, the closer the magma is going to get.

Bomb Threat: NY Bound Airplane Diverted
AP:
A Singapore Airlines passenger jet bound for New York was diverted to Manchester Airport in northern England on Monday after a bomb threat, police said. The Frankfurt to New York flight landed safely at 11 a.m. without a military escort, Greater Manchester Police said.
The pilot of Singapore Airlines flight SQ26 declared a "full emergency" mid-flight, a spokesman for Manchester Airport said. The Boeing 747-400 was carrying 293 passengers and 19 crew.
"Early indications are that it could be a hoax but we cannot confirm that one way or another until full checks are carried out," a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said.
