A popular jihadi message board, affiliated with al-Qaeda, had provided “how-to” information on “penetrating Jewish email addresses”. The author of this posting instructed members to use Jewish-sounding names and Western, including Israeli, domain addresses when registering for free email accounts such as Hotmail.com and Yahoo.com. The author also provided examples of such possible names and addresses.

Time:
But when Bush talked about the Kremlin's crackdown on the media and explained that democracies require a free press, the Russian leader gave a rebuttal that left the President nonplussed. If the press was so free in the U.S., Putin asked, then why had those reporters at CBS lost their jobs? Bush was openmouthed. "Putin thought we'd fired Dan Rather," says a senior Administration official. "It was like something out of 1984."Hat tip Confederate Yankee who wonders if it was Oliver Willis who is advising Putin. The Russians did not let the matter drop. Later, during the leaders' joint press conference, one of the questioners Putin called on asked Bush about the very same firings, a coincidence the White House assumed had been orchestrated. The odd episode reinforced the Administration's view that Putin's impressions of America are often based on urban myths fed to him by ill-informed aides.

An MP who was a founder member of Labour Against the War has quit the group, saying that after last monthÂ’s elections in Iraq he now believed Allied troops should remain in the country, it emerged today....Thanks for the tip from Dr. Leopold Stotch via e-mail.The North-East Derbyshire MP, who is stepping down at the election, accused his former colleagues in the anti-war movement of retailing "simple-minded" claims about the extent of civilian casualties in Iraq since the war....
He could no longer support the anti-war campÂ’s demands for withdrawal of troops of the US-led coalition, which he said should be a decision for the Iraqi people....
Mr Barnes accused the anti-war movement of offering a "one-sided" view of life in Iraq, endlessly repeating the 100,000 casualty estimate produced in an analysis of deaths caused by the conflict, published in the academic journal The Lancet.
"That analysis said it could be anything between 2,000 and 198,000," he said. "Some things are just over-the-top and simple-minded."

His family had been circulating this petetion to free him from Saudi jails.
The full indictment can be read here.
UPDATE: From the indictment, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is charged with:
1) Conspiracy to provide material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations (al Qaeda)
2) Providing material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations (al Qaeda)
3) Conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.
4) Providing material support to terrorists.
5) Contribution of services to al Qaeda.
6) Receipt of funds and services from al Qaeda.
Another Update from the indictment: Left out of the Fox News are several key things. For instance, Fox says that Ahmed Ali was found with "Audio tapes in Arabic promoting violent jihad and the killing of Jews". The actual indictment reads, "Audio tapes in Arabic promoting violent jihad, the killing of Jews, and a battle by Muslims against Christians and Jews."
---------
An American citizen was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and with supporting Al Qaeda .h/t: First Broken AngelIf convicted of all the charges, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, faces a maximum sentence of 80 years in prison....
An indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Alexandria on Feb. 3 was unsealed Tuesday. There are 10 alleged co-conspirators in the indictment.
Abu Ali faces six counts n the indictment: conspiracy to provide material support and resources to Al Qaeda; providing material support to Al Qaeda; conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists; providing material support to terrorists; contribution of services to Al Qaeda; and receipt of funds and services from Al Qaeda.
The federal indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified co-conspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said: one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb." ...
Abu Ali was born in Houston and later moved to Falls Church, Va., where he was valedictorian of his high school class. He allegedly went on to pursue religious studies in Saudi Arabia in 2000 and federal prosecutors say Abu Ali joined an Al Qaeda cell in Saudi Arabia in 2001. The alleged Bush plot occurred while he was studying in that country, the indictment says.
Sometime around September 2002, Abu Ali allegedly returned to Saudi Arabia (search) and told an unnamed co-conspirator that he was interested in joining Al Qaeda. The indictment alleges that Abu Ali intended to become a planner of terrorist operations like Muhammad Atta and Khalid Sheik Muhammad.
Abu Ali allegedly decided at one point to go to Afghanistan to take part in a violent jihad against American military personnel there. He applied for a visa to travel to Iran as a means to enter Afghanistan but his application was denied, according to the indictment.
Abu Ali also received money from another co-conspirator and Al Qaeda member to buy a laptop computer, a cell phone and books, the indictment says. Abu Ali is said to have purchased all the equipment.
At some point, this alleged Al Qaeda member who gave him the money discussed with Abu Ali establishing an Al Qaeda cell in the United States. Abu Ali received training in weapons, explosives and document forgery from Al Qaeda members, the indictment says.
According to the indictment, Abu Ali obtained a religious blessing from another unidentified co-conspirator to assassinate the president. One of the unidentified co-conspirators in the plot is among 19 people the Saudi government said in 2003 was seeking to launch terror attacks in that country, according to the indictment.
He was arrested in Saudi Arabia on June 9, 2003.
UPDATE: (via Charles Johnson) Not surprisingly, the Muslim American Society calls for his release. Would it be possible for Muslim groups to just once support the detention of a terrorist? MAS:
"We're deeply grateful to the Almighty for the return of Abu-Ali the United States of America," said Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation Executive Director Mahdi Bray. "However, I am still greatly troubled and concerned about the manner in which our government has dealt with Abu Ali and his family."Nothing short of his release and return to his family is acceptable to us," stated Bray.
Update: In answer to Number 2 Pencils question. NY Times:
The Washington Post reported in 2003 that Mr. Ali was valedictorian of his 1999 high school class at the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, where school officials described him as "an exceptional student," with special talent in mathematics and science.UPDATE: Aylward notes this article which suggests his father might work for the Saudi Embassy. That would explain why he went to the Islamic Saudi Academy.
UPDATE: Andrew Cochran confirms Abu Ali's father worked for Saudi Embassy.
Another Update: From the Islamic Saudi Academy website. Here is a portion of their Mission Statement:
The AcademyÂ’s educational mission is threefold: 1) to develop all students in mind, body, and character enveloping Islamic values and the Arabic language and culture; 2) to prepare students for further education both in the United States and abroad; and to prepare them to be contributing and responsible citizens of the world. From their About Us page:
Since its establishment, the Islamic Saudi Academy has viewed its relationship with the community and culture as vital to the mission of the school. ISA not only promotes respect and mutual understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims, Arabs and Americans while keeping within the Muslim faith, it strives for its staff and students to uphold tolerance, honesty, integrity and compassion, qualities that represent the best of both American and Arabic cultures. They keep using that word tolerance, I do not think that word means what they think it means.
You'd think that the Valedictorian would have learned the core values of the school? Check out the rigorous course of studies and you might realize why the man turned out to be a jihadi:
The Islamic Studies Program is unique and comprehensive. It stresses Islamic culture, tradition, heritage, and identity. It challenges the students academically and fosters an atmosphere conducive to the development of Islamic morals, values and ideals. With this foundation, students will continually seek knowledge, think critically, and become active learners. The program prepares students for the challenges they will face as they proceed in their educational and professional careers. There is also a link to al-Islam with an entire section devoted to The Superiority of Jihad:The Islamic Saudi Academy believes that it is important for all students to learn Arabic. Arabic is the language of the Holy Qur'an and Muslims are expected to be well versed in it and fully aware of its usage. Fluency in Arabic keeps students in close contact with their Arab heritage and culture through written and oral communication. The Arabic language is becoming more and more popular in cultural, political and economic world events; moreover, it has become one the major languages used at the United Nations. In general, the Arabic program follows the curriculum, syllabus, and materials established by the Saudi Ministry of Education.
Let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter, To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah - whether he is slain or gets victory - soon shall We give him a reward of great (value)....and on the Superiority of the Mujahadin:Not equal are those Believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) hath Allah promised good: but those who strive and fight hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward.
And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good.Last Update: More on in this post 'Man Charged in Presidential Assassin Attending Radical Islamic School Supported by Saudi Government'Those who spend their substance in the cause of Allah, and follow not up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, for them their reward is with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

I am reassured by Marshall, dKos, Atrios, and Cousin Oliver that the left-wing MSM is just an illusion. That's good to know. For a minute there I thought the fact that the first paragraph of this NY Times piece tries to claim that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were a front for an "orchestrated attack." Must be one of those illusions.
Speaking for myself, I'd love to see the AARP fall and not get up. They are the largest and most powerful special interest group in the nation and their members are the recipients of the largest entitlement program in the US--Social Security.
So, what is the connection between the Swifties and USA Next? USA Next is hiring the same firm, Creative Response Concepts, that the Swifties hired for their advertising. Do you see the deep dark connection here? They're hiring the same advertising firm.
It gets worse than that, oh yes the evil roots of this conspiracy run deep, you see the people that work for that advertising firm are all Republicans. Yes, you heard me right, Republicans.
Not like at a place like Media Matters or the NY Times where there are an equal number of Republicans and Democrats.
Sounds like the kind of connection that is so important that the NY Times feels it has to run an article about it. Not that there is any agenda at the NY Times. That would be an illusion.
The fact that the NY Times goes on to list the names and incomes of people who were associated with the Swifty ads, and does so in five paragraphs of text, is practically overshadowed by the one sentence that mentions that the AARP has already spent $5 million on anti-Social Security reform advertisments.
See how fair the NY Times is?
And just to show how fair the Times is, they let the unsubstantiated allegation made by unnamed sources that the White House is actually coordinating the attack juggernaut. To their credit, the Times did not ask Carl Rove how long had it been since he stopped beating his wife.
I call that fair and balanced.
I just hope that the USA Next attack dog is somewhat more masculine than Josh Marshall's.

Clue #2) Three Zarqawi aids killed--allegedly responsible for web-based propaganda. When I first challenged hackers to take down Zarqawi's site (which they did) I got a lot of e-mails from people saying, "Dude, don't you know they can track Zarqawi through his postings?" I never really believed them, as Zarqawi's folks had to be smart enough to mask their IPs....Maybe I was wrong.
Clue #3) Police seem to be capturing Zarqawi aids on a daily basis now. Take for instance this news from yesterday.
Final Clue) US launches major offensive against terrorist forces in operation River Blitz.

A placard on the high-priced car reads:

F*ck the Police
F*ck the US Government
F*ck Israel
F*ck SUVs
Burn American Flags
Remember, it's the Red Staters who are mean and intolerant.

Iraq's U.S.-backed interim government is stepping up its propaganda war with insurgents by broadcasting videotaped interviews with suspects who appear to confess to killings, rape and theft on the orders of guerrillas.Bad muj, bad muj, what'chya gonna do? What'chya gonna do when we come for you?The offensive was launched in recent weeks on state-run Iraqiya television, which broadcast lengthy interrogations of Iraqis it said had carried out terrorist acts under the direction of "Abdullah", described as a criminal with close ties to Syria.....
Before each man spoke, Iraqiya showed images of masked insurgents in black throwing a kidnapped hostage to the ground before beheading him.
One suspect questioned on Sunday, identified as Saad Ghanim, said he was paid $500 (260 pounds) to help steal $30,000 and then kill the owner of the cash. He said insurgents took the rest of the money to finance their activities.
"They told me I had to fight a holy war against the Americans. Abdullah told me my children would be killed if I did not obey," he said.
"I used the stolen money for gambling."
The interviewer encouraged the men to speak about "filthy crimes" and constantly mentioned Syria.
"So were these goods smuggled with the knowledge of the Syrian government?" he asked.
A suspect named Farhan first said yes and then no....
Ghanim described how he and several other people, including Abdullah, kidnapped a 20-year-old woman, put her in the trunk of a car and then raped and killed her.
"Don't you have a conscience?" asked the interviewer.
The men replied that intimidation and poverty had driven them to join the insurgents and kill and steal from innocents.
"I and someone else held the girl and then Abdullah slaughtered her," said Farhan.

Thousands of people marched in Rome today to demand the release of an Italian journalist kidnapped in Iraq.AP:"Free Iraq, Troops out of Iraq," read one banner as the crowd made its way from Rome's main train station along a boulevard skirting the Colosseum.
Many marchers waved rainbow-colored peace flags, which were draped on windowsills and balconies throughout Italy in the months leading up to the war. Other participants twirled the red flags of Italian Communists.Let me emphasize, again, that this is mere speculation and the larger part of me rejects it. However, some small part of me still thinks this whole thing is a sham.Another marcher, Irene Corradino, 38, said she came from Milan on behalf of Sgrena and "to deliver a protest message to our leaders who support the war."
Public opinion surveys have indicated widespread Italian opposition to the invasion.

Today a knew one for me. In Iran, it appears Christians are also barred from military service. Compass Direct:
Yesterday a Tehran military court sentenced Iranian Christian pastor Hamid Pourmand to jail for three years, ordering his immediate transfer to a group prison cell in TehranÂ’s notorious Evin Prison. The next part sounds eerily similar to the way in which Muslim states treat Jews. Jews are routinely accused of being spies for Israel and are forbidden from making any contact with family members in 'The Zionist Entity. The mass migration of 500,000 Jews out of Muslim dominated countries to Israel can be partially blamed on this scapegoating of Jews as 'Zionist spies'.The former army colonel was found guilty of deceiving the Iranian armed forces by not declaring when he acquired officer rank that he was a convert from Islam to Christianity. Under the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is illegal for a non-Muslim to serve as a military officer.
During yesterdayÂ’s hearing, PourmandÂ’s lawyer produced several documents in which his clientÂ’s military superiors had acknowledged years ago that the colonel was a Christian. He had even been excused by his commander from observing the Muslim month of fasting, an exemption granted only to non-Muslims.....
During the hearing, prosecutors also questioned Pourmand closely on accusations that he had been involved in spying against his country. “They have nothing at all to prove this,” one acquaintance of the lay pastor told Compass. “He denied it, because he really had no contact with foreigners at all. He is not that kind of person.”ht: Robert SpencerIn 1990, the Iranian regime used trumped-up spying charges as a pretext to arrest, try and execute a convert Christian pastor from Mashhad for alleged “treason.” ...
A lawyer acting on behalf of PourmandÂ’s family said he will appeal the verdict to the Supreme Court. Simultaneously, he hopes to block efforts to put Pourmand on trial before a sharia court of Islamic law, where under charges of apostasy and proselytizing he could be sentenced to death.

...each paragraph starts with the target's chatroom nickname, followed by whatever personal information has been gathered about the target, e.g.Daveed Gartenstein-Ross comments on why this is so frightening:- one is a Taxi driver who used to live in Egypt but he left the country
- another is believed to be a dentist, likes to argue with Hamas sympathizers
- one lives in America and he is "worse than the Americans themselves..."
- two others are "Christians from Syria"
Another page on Barsoom features rulings on those who curse God's prophet....For example, the page of religious rulings states that "the one who curses God deserves death." Another ruling states, "The one who curses God, his Prophet and [the Prophet's] companions or successors has denied the Qur'an and should be killed. Also anyone who defames Aisha, the Mother of the Believers. And they should have their heads cut off."In light of the mass murder of a Coptic Christian family in New Jersey, web threats which target individuals need to be looked into by law enforcement agencies. Hossam Armanious, his wife, and his two daughters, age 16 and 8, were found brutally murdered in their home on Jan. 14th. Mr. Armanious was an Egyptian Christian who spent his spare time at the PalTalk website speaking out against Muslim persecuation of Christian Copts in Egypt. He had been singled out and threatened online for his criticism.
In the last several days the family and their representatives have spoken out. The NY Sun (via Robert Spencer) reports today that the families believe the most probable method and motive for the slayings is a ritual murder for religious reasons. And yesterday a spokesperon for Christian Solidarity International issued the following statement on the Armanious family murder:
From the perspective of ethnic and religious minorities who have fled religious persecution and violence by Jihadists in their native countries, this case is unnerving. Many non-Muslim immigrants have told me that they believed that when they fled to the United States from these pressures, they would be safe. This case has made them feel vulnerable. More than any other group, the Coptic community hopes that their fears are proven wrong, and that this was not religiously motivated or an act of micro-terrorism by extremists. To show my solidarity with those who are being hunted down by good Muslims bent on following Allah's will by killing those that blaspheme Allah, Muhammed, or Aisha I offer the following statement.
There is no god named Allah and Muhammed is not a prophet. In fact, Muhammed was a child-molesting mass murder. Aisha? Nothing more than the victim of pedophelia with a bit of Stockholm syndrome.
Issue a fatwa against me. I dare you.

Digger tells me that the first 'vandal' has been charged after he turned himself in. That man is a great American.
Let me make myself clear: I consider the act of vandalism which took down that effigy an act of courage and an act of civil disobedience.
A candlelight vigil is planned tonight by Move America Forward to protest this outrage.

I have seen the quotes attributed to Franklin from a number of Islamist sources. MEMRI has the latest on the vile distortions latest iteration:
"Noble readers, this document exposes the truth. Had the rulers of America been a good second generation to their predecessors, America would not today have become hostage to the Jews' policy, and Washington would not be aiding Tel Aviv in its satanic spirit."I have no more accurate explanation [for what is happening today] than the content of this document, which spells out America's situation with the Jews today with great accuracy, letter by letter and moment by moment.
"O late American president [Benjamin Franklin]! If only you could see what has happened to your people, and how your prophecy – about the establishment of a country of devils at the expense of your wretched people – has come true!"
