NBC News reported that unversity officials "have ruled out terrorism". WTF? They suspect a deadly poison that has to made (it doesn't occur in nature) was in a roll of quarters and they rule out terrorism??!!

Now CNN is saying that it is unlikely to be ricin, says two further tests, tested negative for the presence of ricin. Those tests seem rather flakey.

Oh sure, I have coin wrapper just chocked full of ricin, and anthrax too. Helps the laundry get whiter. Doesn't everyone use it?

I'm not surprised that they could get a false positive. I just think it's bizarre that the University is making announcements like that at such an early stage in the investigation.

not sure. kind of a damned if you do - damned if you don't situation. Like when that nutjob at the Oklahoma University blew himself up, the University kept quiet and that fueled the "terrorist suicide bomber" theory, even though it was a very odd situation, suicide by bomb. I agree it is premature on a single bio-weapon test, I can remember all of the false-positives from Iraq/Anthrax scare etc.

Not all white powders are anthrax or ricin.

Yes, john ryan, we're talking about the initial "positive" test for ricin, though.
