Sadr's Mahdi Army has killed several British soldiers now, although their leader, a fellow named Fartusi, has been captured.
Maybe just the threat of military action was enough to stir up Iran's insurgents. While it sounds like the arrest of this Fartusi is an important first step, Sadr himself is holding the Mahdi together. There are already warrants out for his arrest, as the article points out. Why are we waiting?

I saw on CNN this morning that the Brits actually attacked a police station this morning. Not. Good. We still have those tactical nukes, right? :-0

Once more, for the slower among us: Muslims are uncivilized savages, and history shows time and again that they can only behave, indeed, they only seem happy, when they have a boot on their neck. Treating them as civilized people and expecting them to behave as such is like expecting a rabid dog to not bite the hand that feeds him.

Having spent a pleasent Summer & Autumn (2003) in Basrah, I am baffled that you make such a simple link: Sadr-Iran-Nukes-Basrah. It is way more complex, there are two militias in Basrah, Sadr's bunch (Mecti Army - MA) and Sistani's lot (Barda Corp - BC).
Sadr's political party lost heavy to Sistani in the election in Basrah but the MA were as effective as the BC in getting their people into the Police, INA and local government appointments. Since Najaf, the MA have been careful not to pick too many fights with the coalition.
However, the constitution has split the shia vote with Sistani (Iranian backed) giving a block vote for the constitution while Sadr (Iraq Nationalist) giving a block vote against. The every shifting alliances mean that Sadr has been endorsed by Al Queda in Iraq.
The bomb attacks may be related to either AQ or Iranian trg but it is not nessacaryly that Sadr is an extention of Iran's Foriegn Policy. Just as likely and more probable is that these attacks are related to the political aim of the MA, i.e. establishing a wider popular base and destablising the very institutions that the coalition require to be in place for the constitutional vote and their withdrawl.
Yesterdays incidents certianly will enhance the MA powerbase and clearly have damaged the IPS and INA relations with coalition forces.
p.s. As a Brit, it is good to see that our troops drinking/brawling skills enable them to be the BEST occupation force the world has ever seen! (max two IZ deaths) about right for some petrol bombs and stones. Much like Belfast last week!

Rusty, the police are the bad guys.
IM, whoever's peeing in your cheerios, do get over it.
Jailor, I'm sure Sistani is receiving money from Iran but yours is the first mention I've seen linking him to the Badr Corps (are we talking about the same thing?)
The nuke policy link is drawn here by "British officials" and it seems quite plausible. Mookie's Mahdi Army got caught with $30 million in heroin last year by the Poles and that had to come through Iran. By all accounts i read, he's their main man.

Hey See-Dubya, don't tell me to get over it. I have every right to be pissed off, and I can't imagine why the hell someone would be so apathetic with everything going to hell in a handbasket.
