We are battening down the hatches, so to speak, here in Austin! They are forecasting an interesting weekend, even this far inland.
Love the sentiment, o' sandcrawler!
I needed a smile!
Will send pics (provided my power is still on!)

Not to wish ill upon Mexico, but hey, better them than us! At least they don't have an economy to ruin, and if we take a hit, they suffer too.

Melissa,
I live in East Texas and I'm expecting the worst. Get gasoline for your generator before it's too late.

I'm a woman, I'm not a Star Wars junkie, and I got it. I even laughed. I think you must have just caught your wife at a bad moment.

If it veers west, I'm pinning it on you! I would like to see somebody else take the credit other than Art Bell...

Everyone knows George Bushitler won't let the thing hit Mexico; there are black people in Houston he can kill.
Plus, global warming is all the President's fault because he didn't give enough money to improve the levees he blew up.
Good lord. We can put men on the moon but we can't stop flooding from a hurricane. Is anyone else getting tired of this?

we could hope that it hits the Mexican side of the Texas-Mexico border, wipes out all those towns that are owned and ran by Mexican druglords, they all drown in cocaine and mud, while the Hurricane digs a 40foot wide, 40 foot deep trench from one side of Mexico to the other....voila!!!...instant trench!!!....and ya didnt have to call Acme

If it hits Mexico ... where do you think all the 'refugees' will go? Mexico City ? (schea ... right).
This is bad as it is heading towards our other 'major' petroleum port, but as I've blogged recently ... it is but a miniscule portion of the global energy effected by these storms. Just another excuse for oil companies to increase their profits by ripping us off over anything they can use as an excuse.
Last night gas here in mid Texas went up 7 cents a gallon ... why? (hurricane in the gulf ... no damage yet ... quick profits.)
Stock market speculators (profiteers) need to stop 'speculating' with their doom gloom end of the world attitudes. (Of course it is the ones who profit by it that drive the price up.)
Capitolism is great ... but gouging is a crime ...

Jonathan:
It isn't profiteering?
Lets imagine for a second you own a paper napkin company, suddenly you get a phone call from your rep saying that the roll of paper you normally buy could be effected by X natural disaster, and you could expect to pay $44 dollars extra a roll. You have 28 rolls of paper left, so in order to ensure that you can afford to buy more paper and still be profitable you charge an extra 10 cents per box of napkin, in expectations you will have to spend more money to buy paper.
The petrol pump business owner doesn't get the "hook up" on Gasoline, he has to pay the inflated rate too, so in order to ensure he can afford to pay for the next batch of Gas he has to put his prices up in expectation he will have to pay more for it next order.

"If it hits Mexico ... where do you think all the 'refugees' will go? Mexico City ? (schea ... right)."
Jonathan, you're absolutely right. However, you also proved another point. If those on the dirt-poor side of the border can get out of the way, then what does it say about those who complain that they can't because the government didn't do it for them? (Disclaimer: Before anyone beats me up, I'm talking about those who really CAN help themselves and don't. So don't put words in my mouth or misconstrue what I've said.)
