Harvard and David Duke: It's the Jews' Fault

From The New York Sun:

"The combination of unwavering U.S. support for Israel and the related effort to spread democracy throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardized U.S. security. ... Why has the United States been willing to set aside its own security in order to advance the interests of another state?... The explanation lies in the unmatched power of the Israel Lobby. Were it not for the Lobby's ability to manipulate the American political system, the relationship between Israel and the United States would be far less intimate than it is today....
No, these aren't the ravings of insane Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This comes from two professors at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.

The paper, by Stephen M. Walt and John Mearsheimer, is posted on the internet (available here, via Vital Perspective), and has attracted the enthusiastic support of former KKK leader David Duke, who is pleased to have such an esteemed institution as Harvard endorse his racist viewpoints:

"It is quite satisfying to see a body in the premier American University essentially come out and validate every major point I have been making since even before the war even started."

1 83 pages!!!! I had to stop after 3!!!! The paragraph you quote is enlightening. US support for a REAL DEMOCRACY and supporting the spread of democracy in a region that has known only secular dictators and religious tyrants IS A BAD THING???????? Damn! Its getting to the point that every opposing element is oozing moral bankruptcy and attempting to pass it off "enlightened self-interest!" I know some of our jawa are Jewish - so please don't be offended by what follows ... Israeli Lobby? Jesus Christ! Virtually every Jewish politican and Jews of influence in this country are freakin' liberal democrats and leftists!!!! The Jewish community votes Democratic 80% or higher! Jews are THE BIGGEST influence on the american LEFT! Who the hell is the "Israeli Lobby"? Don't these people have names - especially since they are supposedly so pervasive! Identify them - explain how this "influence" is carried out - how it works! What - is it a secret? They wear masks or something? I've always considered the "Israeli Lobby" as one of the biggest crocks going - simply more acceptable to most than the Illuminati and those dreaded Masons.

3 Too bad these opinions have the David Duke Seal of Approval, but really, where is the untruth here? Has U.S. support for Israel been unwavering throughout the country's history? Yes, pretty much; I don't think our leaders would deny that; quite the opposite. Have the efforts to spread democracy throughout the (Mideast) region inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardized U.S. security? Of course, we're at war there now for that very purpose. Why has the United States been willing to set aside its own security in order to advance the interests of another state? A fair question. Maybe because we feel its worth it after 9/11. These Harvardians say "the explanation lies in the unmatched power of the Israel Lobby. Were it not for the Lobby's ability to manipulate the American political system, the relationship between Israel and the United States would be far less intimate than it is today." Well, I think the revelation that powerful political lobbiests and interest groups can manipulate the US government is something less than revealing, especially now. So, besides having somemarginalized, debunked whacko support their position for his own twisted purposes, where have these guys erred?

4 Correlation and causality are not the same thing. And using one to lead to the other is faulty. I mean, look at that reasoning there. It's a mess. -------------------- OyOy - What?

5 OyOy reminds me of background noise. Let me ask you a question, Mr. OyOy. If we had not supported Israel, just as Europe has not, but rather had licked the boots of the Palestinians, just as the Europeans have, then tell me why the Islamists still seek to destroy Europe. I would appreciate an answer that at least makes a tiny bit of sense.

6 These findings are neutral without the Duke rubbish. Short of the fact a creep has latched onto them for his own purposes, what is particularly repugnant concerning these researchers' findings? That lobby groups have power? That Israeli lobby groups have a certain amount of influence on America's government? What's so hard to believe about that -- a lot of governments do. Why does the fact a puke like David Duke has decided these results work for him negate the findings, none of which the casual reader would find inaccurate or particularly defamatory to Jews or the Jewish state? Look, Hitler interpreted the philosophical writings of Nietzsche in such a way as to validate his anti-Semitism. So does Nietzsche share responsibility for the deaths of 6 million Jews at the hands of fanatics? Hardly seems fair.

7 JJ--Have the researchers condemned US support of Israel or merely noted it? If so, please point out the passage. I think I missed it. And can you honestly tell me that our support hasn't made us some enemies in the Mid-east. Again I ask where are the inaccuracies of anything the guys from Harvard said?

8 I asked for an answer that at least touched on the Islamists desire to reinstitute the Caliphate and revert the straying Europeans to Islam and what do I get? Nothing. And it doesn't matter, oyoy, whether our policy made us any friends or not, these people would still not be our friends. I repeat my question. Has the European approach, which is what you are advocating, done them any good? Do the Islamists still see Europe as the enemy, and do they intend to attack Europe in the future? I think the answer to these questions are quite obvious.

9 I'm advocating the European approach? What is the European approach? I'm not advocating any approaches, any Caliphates or any Islamists. I'm merely pointing out that the language in the researchers findings was neutral. Linking it to a negative personality does not make it any less so.

10 Never mind.

11 Way over my head! I still say round 'em up and rope 'em off! The world is my oyster!
