As to the LA Times article about Iraq being the same as Vietnam: It was refreshing to see a MSM report that correctly tells the public how we “lost” in Vietnam. Everyone seems to have forgotten that we had withdrawn and left the war in the Vietnamese’s hands, then cut them off. We did something somewhat similar in Iraq after the 1991 war. I’m amazed that we have the cooperation from the Iraqis that we now have. Had I been stabbed in the back as they had, I wouldn’t give the US any respect. President Bush has overcome that with his steadfastness in spite of the MSM and Left/Democratic attacks. However, I’m not so sure that a majority the American people would protest an abandonment of the Iraqis. I see the same thing happening as occurred during Vietnam. With the negative reporting from the media, the American people are being made to believe that the sacrifice is not worth the effort. Additionally, the Democrats are now trying to criminalize any action they can of any Bush Administration personnel to defeat the Republicans in the next election; then they can vote to cut the war funding as Senator Leahy and others want.
These people have absolutely no survival instincts as it relates to America and its citizens. But I do. While historians believe only 1/3 of the colonists supported the War of Independence, the Declaration of Independence was still issued and states: “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence . . . .” The Declaration is part of the United States Code. Therefore, some might believe that we the people have the right and obligation to protect ourselves from a government that will not. The 2nd Amendment was justified on that basis. As Jefferson said, “In a nation governed by the people themselves, the possession of arms to defend their nation against usurpers within and without was deemed absolutely necessary.” Something for us and our leaders to think about.
