Frankly, We're Afraid of Offending You (Please Circulate)

A concerned citizen named Sam sent me this cartoon. Please circulate it or post it to your website. Yes, it's that good.

He says:

Hi

Having witnessed the embarrassing behaviour of most the western media over the past couple of days in relation to the Danish cartoons, I was prompted to make this cartoon myself.

I'm not sure if you can make use of it, but perhaps you could circulate it
around or suggest another site/blog I could contact who might be interested.

Somebody get this guy a syndicated, please!

2 Rusty: As I said below, about the only reason I can come up with for not publishing the cartoons is the chance that, by not doing so, one might provide a forum for Muslims to take a position in opposition to the the "Arab Street." In other words it makes some sense to offer hospitality and a microphone to Muslims willing to speculate that the concept behind those images of Muhammed is a false and illegitimate idea, and that (assuming there's some concept of Muhammed that hasn't been seduced by Salafism) the images are therefor not of The Prophet. That would be a fortuitous development. (Note that I don't have any stake in whether The Prophet was legitimate or not, but the proof will be in the behavior of believers rather than dogma.) And having listened to a number of British Muslims make precisely this point on the BBC I'm not quite ready to condemn them for not publishing the cartoons. There is some evidence, in other words, that the Muslim World isn't quite united behind the kabuki outrage. That said, I think it's entirely ethical and moral to publish the cartoons even if one isn't necessarily in agreement with the sentiments they express... because the principle is worth supporting and because those who have published the images deserve the protection of numbers. Anyway, is there a way I can fly the Danish flag on my blog, along with the Union Jack? I've kind of neglected that so far, and (just in case there are some Muslims willing to make the point above in my comments) I will refrain from posting the images for the time being. As you know, I'm not afraid. I carry a weapon, a practice which seem prudent and appropriate. I just think there may be a moral and ethical position for maintaining at least a small semblence of neutrality, for the sake of the Muslims willing to take a stand against totalitarianism.

3 He is good. Are the weekly comics in the lower 48 in color? Most of what I see in Alaska are black and white.

4 Great cartoon. It needs to be sent to all news organizations that claim to support "freedom of speech”, and have, as yet, not published the “Mohammad Cartoons.”

5 Screw Islam and all the cowardly accomplices here. I find Islams utter disrespect for human freedom and art to be so offensive that is should be re-classified from religion to psychopathic disorder

6 We'll be Drawing Old Muhammad on the Wall (music: She'll be coming 'round the mountain, http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/mountain.htm) We'll be drawing old Muhammad on the wall, We'll be drawing old Muhammad on the wall, For even Muslims must admit it, You don't need a special permit, To be drawing old Muhammad on the wall. We'll be spraying old Muhammad on the wall, We'll be spraying old Muhammad on the wall, With graffiti that's persisting, We will show that we're insisting, On our right to spray the Prophet on the wall. We'll be painting old Muhammad on the wall, We'll be painting old Muhammad on the wall, Now some claim that He's angelic, So we'll paint Him psychedelic, We sure hope He likes His pictures on the wall. We'll be etching old Muhammad on the wall, We'll be etching old Muhammad on the wall, The time has come to make our stand Or our rights they will get banned, And we'll find ourselves lined up against the wall. (If you like this, please re-post it elsewhere on the Internet.)
