Filthy Spy In The White House

Holy moly! We have the workings of a Tom Clancy novel and it's happening in real time. Expect everybody to report on this story. For the first time in modern history, a spy has been caught working in the White House

From ABCNews.com:

Officials tell ABC News the alleged spy worked undetected at the White House for almost three years. Leandro Aragoncillo, 46, was a U.S. Marine most recently assigned to the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney.

"I don't know of a case where the vetting broke down before and resulted in a spy being in the White House," said Richard Clarke, a former White House advisor who is now an ABC News consultant.

Federal investigators say Aragoncillo, a naturalized citizen from the Philippines, used his top secret clearance to steal classified intelligence documents from White House computers.

In 2000, Aragoncillo worked on the staff of then-Vice President Al Gore. When interviewed by Philippine television, he remarked how valued Philippine employees were at the White House.

Aragoncillo is believed to have stolen classified documents from the Vice-President's office and sent them to opposition political groups in the Philippines. The information was sent primarily in emails.

I'm sure we'll hear more on this story. Jay at Stop The ACLU has more.

1 Bet very few reports on this by the MSM say that this guy was hired by the Clinton Administration.

2 Yup, a Gore leftover. Probably no one will mention that. Color me suprised.

3 What's there to spy anyway? Nothing significant happens in the world these days and all the crap they juggle in the monkey castle is predictable.

4 Now will Rummy finally grow a spine and have this guy shot, or will he again chicken out? Spies should be shot! As in dead! But with the gutless Sec Def we have my guess is they will ask for life - which the NYT says meand 8 - 15 years.

5 Who gives top secret clearances to 3rd world immigrants to begin with. Their loyalities are obvious if you talk to one. They should immigrate to some insignificant place like FINLAND.

6 Actually we have quite a few Filipinos in our Navy. I recall touring the USS Nimitz when it was in Dubai and seeing Filipinos officers aboard. Wretchard (from the Belmont Club) speculates this guy was recruited by Mark Jimenez (who is about to finish a two year term for illegally sending money to the Dems during President Clinton's years in office) and reports have it the material sent to the Philippines was damaging information on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

7 Undisputed champion of all feathery egg-laying things, =P got plenty of those guys, thanks, you keep 'em, feed 'em and let 'em spy on you, while we think of ways to keep the immigrating Turkeys souther than Hanko...

8 Could it be because Arroyo isn't putting up with the extreme Islam crap?

9 No. GMA is in the middle of a vote-rigging & corruption scandal. The opposition attempted to impeach GMA but the effort failed on technicalities. There are rumors of coup and assassination plots. In fact it sounds like GMA is soft on the terrorism where it counts. Her Admin puts on a good face but behind the scenes is different. At the Belmont Club Wretchard relates an e-mail he received where there is speculation that GMA is trying to hold up an anti-terror bill because of its clamp down on money laundering. That would cause problems for many of the movers & shakers in the Philippines. This sounds reasonable (do a search for "General Carlos Garcia" & Philippines), but we do know GMA's administration buckled under to the Iraqi terrorists very quickly and paid $ (so say the rumors) and withdrew their handful of troops.

11 Roddy pipe-slapper, the real spy is George W. Bush and his twisted goofies who do Bin Laden's dirty work and sell our country to the Chinese, you screwball Chimp-worshippers!!!!!

12 Thanks, Marcus. I see you've been to Wretchard's place as well. Frankly, he has the most comprehensive information I've seen yet.

13 DSM, Who is selling who to the Chinese? The Clintonistas accepted money from the Chinese, oh yeah Al Gore was taking a pea at the time. Oyster, A goodly portion is from The Belmont Club but since Claudia (the wise and benevolent empress of the blogosphere) is from the Philippines I keep an eye on things there. Especially now we have a trip in the works. You are right though Wretchard has some real good analysis of the case.

14 Marcus: Do you know the difference between an Officer and a petty Officer? Don't worry about the Phillipines. I go there twice each year and never a problem. Actually, the other way around. Just have to hang with the right corrupt people. Money talks, right and wrong walks.

15 Filthy spy was poor choice of names. More likely Downing Street Moron spy.

16 Greyrooster, IIRC a petty officer is an NCO in the Navy much akin to a sargent or a corporal in the Army. Ahhh siyanga pala I see why the question. No, the one Pinoy (or the one I refer to) I saw on the Nimitz looked like he had serious metal on his shoulders. It did not seem like he was upper management but everything about him screamed upper middle management. What is the uniform of a typical petty officer like?

Posted by: Marcus Aurelius at October 07, 2005 01:10 PM (zrUW+)

17 A crow on the sleeve. One stripe, two stripes, or three stripes below the crow. One=3rd class petty officer. two=2nd class petty officer. 3 = 1st class petty officer. Then chief petty officer, senior chief petty officer, and finally master chief petty offficer. Important to remember that the chief petty officers run the navy. O's in the Navy are just for show. Unless they are pilots. In which case they are hard working heros. Ashamed to say as a Marine Corps Officer I forget the rest. Any of you lazy assed, know nothing swabies out there to help me?

Posted by: greyrooster at October 07, 2005 11:48 PM (M7kiy)

18 Perhaps he was a petty officer, I can not recall these details. It was in '92 or '93 when I toured the Nimitz. In any event it looked like to me he carried a fair amount of authority. One detail I do remember. He wasn't in blues, his uniform shirt was khaki.

19 Marcus: Khaki = Chief Petty Officer
