The US force, backed by helicopters and tanks, was led to the location by an intelligence tip. The troops had evacuated the area and were preparing to storm the building when the terrorists killed themselves.
Some Arab sources report that the American unit is busy trying to identify the 8 bodies, hoping against hope that Abu Musab al Zarqawi is among them. This is not confirmed by US military sources.
Again Arab Press is hardly a rock solid source but this story ties in with DEBKA'S post......
According to reports, American and Iraqi forces are currently checking whether al-Zarqawi's body can be found among the bodies of other al-Qaeda members that blew themselves up at a house that was besieged by the forces at the northern town of Musul. (Ali Waked)

As soldiers closed in on the site, there was an exchange of small arms fire, then it appears the three al-Qaida suspects blew themselves up to avoid capture.
The military is conducting DNA tests on flesh and blood recovered from the scene, but a Pentagon official said indications are that al-Zarqawi is not among those killed.

The reports right now are sketchy at best. I got fingers, toes, everything crossed on this one. Myself and others have believed OBL may well be same - buried under some mountain in Tora Bora. Cheap videos and cassettes passing thru multiple hands with significant time lag may be effort to keep legend alive. But without a body (in current political climate) definitive statement can't be made.

Oh yeah, Carlos, I've met numerous "veterans" who, when asked specific questions about dates of service, duty stations, units, etc., couldn't give a correct answer. Once, I asked a guy what unit he was in and he said the 82nd Airborne, so I asked him how long he was at Fort Stewart, and he said "five years". I asked him how long he was in the Army, and he said that was it, that he was stationed at Fort Stewart for five years with the 82nd Airborne. Except that the 82nd has never been at Fort Stewart, Georgia, but rather Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Liberals love to lie, but they're just not smart enough to be good at it.
