Egypt's Baghdad Bob

Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, better known as "Baghdad Bob", is well-known for his quips about how the US was losing the war. My favorite was "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!" even as tanks could be seen across the Euphrates river on live television.

Today, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit joins the ranks of reality deniars such as Baghdad Bob for his denial that American foreign policy is responsible for the sea-change in Iraq. The WaPo artcle is here. Read it, you'll get a good laugh.

My favorite line: ""I think Egypt is a lighthouse for the Middle East." Classic.

The Commissar has more.

1 Just like SDI and the fall of the USSR. The MSM will go to any length to deny that the War on Terror is going well. History repeats itself.

2 Well lets see they did point out the fact that there is a "pick and choose" policy being taken by the white house to show case their "Middle East Crital Thaw" success. Right or wrong, its just the way it is. Trust me on this one this is the land of "bukara-insallah", nothing is done in a hurry and blood runs thick. Lebenon is just going through the pains of any country looking for identity. Once Syria is out, a government pro Syria and pro-hrdline to Isreal will continue. Comparing those people in the streets 1 week ago is comparable to the crowds when the Iraq'i regime colapsed: today we are brothers in arms for a cause common to us both, tomorrow their causes will run amok to each other and there will be infighting.

3 If I recall correctly, Baghdad Bob stated there were no U.S. soldiers in Baghdad as you could hear live fire going off in the background. Supposedly there was a contingent less than a mile away from him at the time.

4 Rod: I want you to tell the truth. You dislike MSM don't you.

5 During an argument between the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, Peres said that Israelis' policies of continued violence might "turn the US against us".   To this Sharon retorted:   "EVERY TIME WE DO SOMETHING, YOU TELL ME AMERICANS WILL DO THIS AND WILL DO THAT. I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING VERY CLEAR: DON'T WORRY ABOUT AMERICAN PRESSURE ON ISRAEL;   WE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE, CONTROL AMERICA. AND THE AMERICANS KNOW IT."   -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon October 3, 2001 (IAP News)

7 Greyrooster - - I do not dislike them I hate them. I was in Hue with the Fifth Marines in 1968. We kicked their collective asses! Only a direct order form the Commie Sec Def to not advance but "hold our positions" kept us from killing 4,000,000 of them and ending the war and Gen Giaps army for 20 years. The MSM said the Gooks won the Tet Offensive. A big lie! I remember and I willnot forget or forgive. Many patriotic Americans died for freedom and the MSM lied about it. I had buddies that gave their lives. I will not ever forget! GUNG HO! a tierd old exJarhead

8 Know the feeling Rod. I was with the 26th Marines during tet. We made a mess of them. Talk about turkey shoot. I will say Bless the Air Force. Next day we were told to hold. What a missed oportunity. We could have ran them all the way back to Hanoi. Always wondered about how we lost. I sure got my share and I carried a 45. My outfit never lost a battle. I guess Hanoi Jane had more influence with the press than we did.

9 Just thinking about that Rod. Only in America can you never lose a battle and lose the war? Only here can you have kill ratio of 62 to 1 and lose? Like I said, only in America.
