Chirac Announces Terms of French Surrender

Once again, after a valiant struggle, the French bow to the inevitable. It is said that Chirac bravely turned down an offer from President Bush to send five Marines to help put down the rioting [thanks to Sandy Shanks for forwarding that hilarious email].

Allons enfants de la Patrie...

From Agence France Presse:

Chirac described the unrest as "a crisis of meaning, a crisis of identity," saying it was the sign of a "deep malaise" in French society.

"I wish to tell the children from these difficult neighbourhoods, whatever their origins, that they are all sons and daughters of the republic," he said in a televised address.

The president announced the creation of a paid training and employment scheme for 50,000 youths from such areas and a series of measures to improve access to the workplace and to combat discrimination.

Yes, yes, we have all had our cheap fun mocking the French for their little foibles; their arrogance, hypocrisy, incompetence, greed, treachery, military pinheadedness, political stupidity, ingratitude, spreading stinky cheese on everything, illegal profiteering, collaboration, encouragement of Jerry Lewis, etc., but...what shall we do when there are no more French? The foot will be in the other shoe then, mes amis, and the most endearing aspect of our surly little quiche-eating surrender monkeys may be simply the fact that they were...French.

Oh well, we still have Québec...and, of course, in a pinch, Cajuns.

1 What shall we do when there are no more French? Cheer? 50,000 isn't a lot in a country of 65million

3 Oh no, a terrible hurricane coming to Finland (- -)zZzZzZ Damages this far: 1 summer cottage in Norway, a mild flood in Estonia, power's out in a few thousand households, and the darn thing won't turn into a blizzard so it's absolutely useless. Nice try to get a permanent snowlayer in a day, but it's toooooo daaaaarn waaaarm. Thanks a friggin' lot, Gulf Stream warmers...

5 Regarding France's treachery, military pinheadedness, arrogance, collaboration, etc: Early last year I came across this in the Naval Institute's Proceedings Magazine. (It's a secure page on their server that is somehow available without a login.) Lieutenant Commander William Bray recounts his time on the USS Nimitz and some very questionable behavior exhibited by the French in late 1998 in the waters surrounding the Middle East. The article is a fascinating read and about half way down, in bold face, you'll see With Friends Like These .... That's where he describes what appears to be treachery perpetrated by the French. This is just another piece of the French puzzle in their complicity, arrogance and ignorance that has led to what looks like could be their undoing. They've aligned themselves with the Muslim world to the point that I wonder if they'll ever be able to extract themselves before they get sucked down the drain. If you have any trouble accessing the page and are interested, I have the full text and other parts of the series as well. Although this is the part dealing directly with France.

6 The French are a egostistical and underhanded, but given the choice between having a France ruled by Frogs or a France ruled by the Religion of Peas, I'd take the former. Plus it's not like there aren't nice French people out there. I can say that about, uh, one French guy I know. It's a start I guess. As for Chrirac's training and employment scheme, might I recommend that it be restricted to "Advanced Vehicular Licence Plate Design and Construction for Isolated Penal Colonies 101".

9 You forgot the chainsmoking and totally gay berets. Those berets are an abomination for which I will never forgive them!

10 Finn, Go to Colorado. There is a hell of a blizzard going on there, or at least there was last night. So you know that the whole world has not gone wrong. As for me, I am still waiting for the weather to cool off so I can go deer hunting. I don't like to clean game when the temp is 65 degrees. It's supposed to be 30 by tomorrow AM. So watch out, deer! Ah, the French! One would think at least someone there would have the balls to do something besides cave in. I will tell you right here, right now, that the Muslims will not be satisfied with the small carrot Chirac offered. They will want it all. This weak response will only encourage more violence, perhaps the kind that will wake the French up. One can only hope so.

12 GEN LeJeune was a Cajun. My great Grand father was a US infantryman wounded in WWI. Two of my uncles were wounded veterans of WWII. One was wounded on D-Day and again during the Battle of the Bulge. My father was a blackhat during the Korean War. My cousin was a marine during the Vietnam War. My baby brother was a plank owner on the USS Normandy. I am Airborne, Ranger and Jumpmaster qualified. 21 year veteran of the USARMY. Anytime your fat ass wants to take on this Cajun jump your happy ass on down to Lafayette, LA. PUNK!

Posted by: Bullshark at November 15, 2005 11:40 AM (drVg7)

13 Bullshark, it's been a long time since the Cajuns left France, and apparently, they took all the manhood with them, and left the country to a bunch of nancy-boys.

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at November 15, 2005 12:08 PM (0yYS2)

14 I like Cajuns and I sure as hell like their food! Greetings from Texas, Bullshark!

15 Saw this coming with the French - not surprised. Next to follow - applaud themselves for their restraint and "innovative" solutions - not like those "stupid barbaric" Americans! Any doubters?

Posted by: hondo at November 15, 2005 12:32 PM (Jvmry)

16 The longer the French put off a solution to the problem, the bloodier the solution will be, whether the native French prevail or the Islamists.

Posted by: jesusland joe at November 15, 2005 12:36 PM (rUyw4)

17 But the French are going to give em all public works jobs 50,000 of them so won't that fix everything? where is Napoleon when you need him?

Posted by: Howie at November 15, 2005 12:46 PM (D3+20)

18 Get off the Cajuns. The ones around here have balls. Most popular Tee shirt. Ashamed to be French. Shows their feelings.

Posted by: greyrooster at November 15, 2005 01:49 PM (ZaAd/)

19 Bullshark demonstrates why Cajuns were listed as a poor substitute for actual French, to wit, absence of testicular atrophy.

20 Yes! At least a foot of snow every hour since 16:00. A quick transformation from spring to winter in 3 hours, and the snow keeps on coming. Now where are my skis... Oh yes, sorry, winter stuff shall replace blog trolling/commenting,

Posted by: A Finn at November 15, 2005 02:21 PM (lGolT)

21 You see, Finn, get with the positive waves and see what happens! A snow storm from Colorado to Finland. Heh!

Posted by: jesusland joe at November 15, 2005 02:53 PM (rUyw4)

22 I was going to add to this commentary on the French but everything has pretty much been said. Have to admit I admire Napoleon though even though I didn't agree with his foreign policy...but then again he was from Corsica, which really isn't that French.

Posted by: Jester at November 15, 2005 03:11 PM (JDzHB)

23 Who gives a shit about the snow. Here when we want it. We make it.

Posted by: greyrooster at November 15, 2005 06:35 PM (ZaAd/)

24 Who's dissing the Cajuns anyway? I say let's draft General Honore for President!

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at November 15, 2005 10:01 PM (0yYS2)

25 Honore? Now there's a "no bullshit" guy.

Posted by: Oyster at November 16, 2005 05:41 AM (YudAC)

26 Bullshark, My mother was cajun (I was adopted, she took on 3 of us at once, talk about courage!). She was tougher than most men I know, and taught me how to be a "survivalist" to the point that when I went into the Army at 17 I was already trained for it. I went Airborne Ranger Forward Recon. I say Cajuns are the best France ever produced...too bad Frabce didn't keep some of the balls even Cajun Women have! I stand by you. Bring on the nay syaers that say Cajuns are as bad a the French Surrender Monkies.... Tex

Posted by: Texas Marksman at November 16, 2005 11:33 AM (dyUaJ)

27 Like I said Marksman, when the Cajuns left France, apparently they took all the real men with them.

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at November 16, 2005 11:38 AM (0yYS2)

28 It looks to me like when the Cajuns(Acadians) left Canada they just about took all the balls from France and Canada. My friends in Canada, I'm referring to the French part of Canada, so please don't get mad at me.

Posted by: jesusland joe at November 16, 2005 03:24 PM (rUyw4)

29 Most of the brave French died during WWI. hmm, the name Honoré rings a bell.. Check this out, they must be related: Henri Honore Giraud captured in the Battle of Guise in August 1914 when he was seriously wounded but escaped two months later Again captured during WW2: General Giraud planned his escape carefully over two years. He learned German and memorized a map of the surrounding area. On April 17, 1942 he lowered himself down the cliff of the mountain fortress (164 ft). He had shaved off his moustache and wore a Tyrolean hat, travelling to Schandau to meet his SOE contact. and he was just 61 years at the time.

31 To all FRENCHMEN.... I despise your cowardice, your ineptness, your treachery, your hatred and jealousy of America... But, I have found that you snivelling frogs have ONE redeeming value! You will be taken to processing plants in the USA, where you shall be stripped, washed, boiled, and then ground into Alpo dog food! I wonder how many cans of Alpo "International Flavors" can be made from an average skinny weakling french idiot! Vive la France!!!!

32 >I wonder how many cans of Alpo "International Flavors" can be made from an average skinny weakling french idiot! Vive la France!!!! Not good business for Alpo since they would not get enough meat per Frenchman to make it profitable. On the other hand, if you used all the stupidly overweight fat americans (like most of your wives I would guess) then they could feed all the stray dogs and cats in the world... if they can get past the taste (although throwing in some Cajun might help a bit).

Posted by: Bubba at December 07, 2005 09:33 AM (YAEN3)

33 Hmmmm, a bit borderline racist this thread... it does cross the border. You people act like foreign policy and national characteristics are very, very important to the individual en masse.
