An anonymous source tells me that since Harry Belafonte's ill-considered and ignorant
against President Bush, UNICEF's public relations people are frantic. Belafonte has been an official UNICEF goodwill ambassador for many years.
The source says that this time Belafonte's foot-in-mouth disease is viewed with much more consternation because he was stupid enough to make the statements while on foreign soil (Venezuela). UNICEF's communications people are trying to assess the damage that Belafonte may have done to their carefully crafted public image, and there have been calls to strip Belafonte of his ambassadorship.
It's too early to tell whether the mainstream media will give this any play, but members of the MSM are privy to the same source.

It doesn't take rocket science. The answer to that question is no.
Pat Robertson, yes. Harry Belafonte, no.

Harry's been doing this for years - so what's new?
BTW - Harry lives here in NY - watched a PBS piece on him and his wife about a year ago. Ever notice how the "I Hate America" crowd never seem to hate it or fear it enough to leave. Kinda weird huh. If I hated or feared a place I'm pretty sure I'd get away from it - but thats me.

This doubly annoys me since I was considering donating a little something to UNICEF. They are the only charity/ngo to ever send me address stickers that spell my full name correctly, don't transpose my first and last name, or call me "Mr." I thought that was at least worth something, but not as long as crazy man Harry is their spokesman. Thanks for the free stickers that I can actually use guys. No donation for you!

hondo, Belafanote violated an unwritten law called the Vandenberg doctrine: "Criticism of the government stops at the water's edge."
In other words, anything goes at home, but it's
trés uncool to travel to a foreign country and criticize the administration.
The UNICEF folks understand that Belafonte crossed a line here, and they're worried that Harry's shit will stick to them.

Belafonte has fallen into the same old trap so many others have. They can't bestow admiration for one thing without tearing something else down. It's the only way they can reconcile it their own heads. Any sane person knows full well that this is a far better country to live in than the likes of Venezuela (unfortunately it's true) or they wouldn't come back here after shooting their mouths off. When they tell me, "This is my country," I clamly tell them, "No, it's not. You've denounced it in every word and deed. If things are so much better elsewhere, do us all a favor and go."

After years of ranting and character assassinations, Belafonte has finally become an anti-American traitor. UNICEF should disavow him. Proud Americans should reject him. He should stay in his beloved Venezuela. In a time of war, shouldn't he be charged with treason?

Harry is getting old. His singing career
is over. He should move to Cuba.
