Backlash

From the Washington Post:

Herndon voters yesterday unseated the mayor and two Town Council members who supported a bitterly debated day-labor center for immigrant workers in a contest that emerged as a mini-referendum on the turbulent national issue of illegal immigration.

Residents replaced the incumbents with challengers who immediately called for significant changes at the center. Some want to bar public funds from being spent on the facility or restrict it to workers living in the country legally. Others want it moved to an industrial site away from the residential neighborhood where it is located.

This will be the first of many nasty surprises for politicians who fail accurately to judge the mood of the electorate concerning illegal aliens. While this was a local election, and certainly some of the issues that resulted in unseating the incumbents are not relevant on a national scale, the outrage felt by many Americans has been grossly underreported.

Americans, though a generous people, don't like to have that generosity taken for granted, or extorted by mass in-your-face protests. And the issue has daily irritating reminders; pressing "1" for English being perhaps the most common example.

Illegal aliens and their supporters have chosen a confrontational path, including a re-written, Spanish version of The Star Spangled Banner. When you come to the American people with your hand out, don't be slapping them with the other hand.

1 Substitute Day Labor Center for Deportation Center and I will vote for it. Furthermore, mandatory sterilization of all those caught and deported. It is time we put a stop to the endless breeding of these degenerate criminals.

2 People who's argument seems to consist of fearmongering - for example, "the illegals are stealing 'our' jobs!", "the illegals are stealing 'our' socialized medicine!", "the illegals are part of a secret plot to reconquer the southwestern USA!" are rather pathetic. However, I am happy to report that such tactics will not work in the long run. Enjoy your small victories, because not only will they be shortlived but you really don't have much to turn to. If all you can get your leaders to muster is a silly "I believe the US anthem should be sung in English" (which, by the way, it should and the person who came up with the spanish one is a fool) then about the worst you can expect is more irreconconcilable quagmire when the senate and house try to pass your xenophobic measures against illegal immigrants, the vast majority of whome, in a just world, would not be illegals. Just like all the other times, a lot of huffing, puffing, posturing, fearmongering on the part of the xenophobic segment of the American public. A lot of huffing and puffing on the part of the politicians, with their own secret realization that either their own fradulant voter schemes or constituents' cheap labor depends on illegal immigrants, and nothing that you wish will come of this. Expect amnesty to be granted, the borders to remain porous and vulnerable to Al-Qaeda and a lot of back-slapping to be done between politicians about doing absolutely fucking nothing about the actual issues. I'm by no means pleased at that likely turn of events, since the two *actual* problems - restrictive immigration policy and a porous border - are not addressed, but its certainly better than fantasies of a gigantic wall manned by soldiers meant to keep people who's great crime was wanting to work in the USA out. Such a thought is sickening that this, the greatest of all nations, would even come close to sinking to such a level. Once again, welcome to democracy. If you're wondering where you're going and why you're in this handbasket, hello! You must be new here.

3 I just did a ultrasound exam on an illegal alien. MiB your taxes are going to pay for this one.

Posted by: Leatherneck at May 03, 2006 01:55 PM (D2g/j)

4 MiB, your only problem is that most of the illegals are Mexicans and you're too chauvinistic to look at the problem in a mature fashion. I don't care what country these criminals are coming from, they're a drain on resources that should be going to Americans. You probably won't like my version of the Mexican national anthem.

5 More calls of xenophobia and racism from MiB. MiB, this is really getting old. Why can't you understand the simplicity of this complicated issue? I agree Congress is attempting to cave in to a minority and slap each and every face that came here legally and each and every face whose taxes are used to continue this madness. But you have yet to say what you think is right throughout every discussion we've had about this. All you've done is stay on the offensive and ridicule and lambaste anyone who has real ideas or offers real solutions. Several days ago I addressed you directly with my own ideas asking you to respond. You continue to ignore it. Unless you have any realistic ideas or solutions of your own you're willing to impart then I think we've heard enough of you saying the same things over and over. At least I have. Our complaints are not due to xenophobia or racism so you can get off that horse.

6 Can you direct me to the post? Finals week, I must have missed it. I'll respond to your through email or here, whichever you prefer. Now, on to Bluto. "MiB, your only problem is that most of the illegals are Mexicans" What the hell? "...and you're too chauvinistic to look at the problem in a mature fashion. I don't care what country these criminals are coming from, they're a drain on resources that should be going to Americans." You mean that Americans deserve the stolen money from medicare, social security and welfare more than the illegal immigrants? I don't really see a big difference between an illegal alien taking up medicare and a citizen. The system is blanant theft of money from people, a socialist scheme that damages me more than anyone. I don't really care who's using my stolen money - I'd rather just work to stop the government from stealing from me. How utterly socialist of you to claim to have authority over the "resources" of America, ie the salaries of your fellow Americans. What a tool. Also I'll note "xenophobic" does not mean specifically afraid of any particular outsiders, but outsiders in general, which describes you to a T.

7 Also, I find it extremely ironic that you claim you're not racist, and then in response to a bigoted version of the US national anthem going out, you go and make a bigotted version of the Mexican national anthem. Good job, Bluto! You just showed you can be even more stupid than the guy who made the spanish US national anthem.

9 I assume since you see no difference between an illegal alien consuming American resources and a citizen doing so that you are for open borders and world government? Maybe everyone in the world should just move to the United States, or do you want it as a preserve for Mexicans only? And what's bigoted about my Mexican anthem? You'll have to be specific.

10 When did Mexicans become a race? The last time I was in Mexico, I have been there dozens of times, I saw light, bright, damn near white, Mexicans along with all shades of brown. Hell, all Mexicans I know put Caucasian on their driver's licenses. What's up with the race card, MiB?

Posted by: jesusland joe at May 03, 2006 08:39 PM (rUyw4)

11 MiB- From what I've observed from your posts you seem to personify the sort of rose-colored glasses approach to life that's exhibited by anyone who has never wished to think beyond what they're told to. Perhaps you believe that because of our great twenty-first century wisdom we'll somehow be able to protect ourselves from those who would cheerfully kill us. Perhaps by inviting them to sing Kum-Bay-Ah with us. History is full of examples of civilizations that Kum-Bay-Ah-ed themselves to death. Admittedly, we as a nation have made mistakes in the past but what do you propose we do about it?....offer our jugulars to the enemy? MiB Learn who your enemies are. It's not the 51% of your neighbors that you disagree with. It's the cold-blooded jihadist bent on your subjigation or murder. Come and be an American again. Or else please just go away.

12 They're called albinos JJ. A product of inbreeding. Sorry to rain on your parade ...

13 Uh, Larry, I saw Mexicans who were as white as any Caucasian anywhere. Not albinos. No rain on my parade, buddy, the sun is shining bright, in a manner of speaking. My point is that Mexicans are not a race.

15 What is it about this blog that draws idiot libtards? There's always one hanging around, and sometimes two, but it's like they're on a roster to take turns demonstrating daily exactly why they should all hang.

16 MiB, April 7th: http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/169113.php April 12th: http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/170396.php Studying early for finals, but not so much that you couldn't find time to berate a few other people. I was going to email you, but I prefer to keep my hands on top of the table. (I'm not saying you would do this, but I've been misquoted badly in the comments in the past for an email sent, even by request of the recipient.) And finally: For some reason, you keep using variations on the same theme - that it's our fault that others break our laws. By this measure, if someone stole my car, it's MY fault for not locking it. While I hold a small measure of responsibility for not securing my property, it does not absolve the person who stole it of their culpability. You complain bitterly that if we would get rid of our social programs the illegals wouldn't come here. This punishes law abiding American citizens who are in need, regardless of where that help comes from, to deter the actions of illegal aliens. And it's not enough that they have come here illegally - no. They compound the problem by using false social security numbers or the numbers of other citizens causing great distress for them with the IRS. Furthermore, they routinely claim as many dependants as possible to avoid paying federal taxes. And that's just the ones that aren't being paid "under the table". What are we do do in these cases? Get rid of our Social Security system because they exploit it? Get rid of our federal tax system because they exploit it? Get rid of the system that helps deserving people because they exploit it? And let's forget the tax issue for a moment and consider that then they send a sizeable amount of their income back to Mexico which never gets recycled back into our own economy. Our tax systems need overhauling, but not for the reason you propose. You spare nary a disparaging word for those who abuse our goodwill. You continue to ridicule and mock others in the comment section who offer reasonable debate without offering anything of real value in the way of solutions yourself other than to spout off about what socialists we are. You've been reading the JawaReport long enough to know that is completely untrue of those of us who comment there regularly. Open the border and "see what happens"? This is your "solution"? Have you given this any thought at all? Do you have any idea at all of the repercussions of that? Did you take history in school? Or are you just filling space with letters on a monitor? We don't have enough homegrown criminality? We should open the border and let all the corruption of the drug smugglers, M13, petty thieves, al Qaeda and anyone else who wants to come here via the Mexican/American border just waltz back and forth at will? Who's going to watch the shores of Mexico and the southern border with Central America? Mexican authorities? Oh, sure. Maybe I should unlock my car and "see what happens". Maybe untrustworthy people will suddenly discover the "honor system". I understand you're still in school, so I'm left with the impression that you're likely relatively young. Your "idea" may sound great in the laboratory of the classroom of liberal ideas. But in practical usage, in real life, this is a horrible idea. Human nature is rarely of consideration when these social experiments are suggested or bandied about in conversation. The underlying assumption must be that no ill-will on the part of the participants will manifest itself and that everyone has everyone else's best interests at heart. This is pure fantasy and wishful thinking. And finally: "The system is blanant(sic) theft of money from people, a socialist scheme that damages me more than anyone. I don't really care who's using my stolen money - I'd rather just work to stop the government from stealing from me." While you have a very valid point about the system, it has nothing to do with illegal immigration. They are two completely separate issues. The fact that one is subject to abuse by the other does not mean that overhauling one system will solve the problem of the other. We still offer more opportunity for people to better their lives here in the USA than any other country on the planet. As long as opportunity exists, they will come - social programs or not. And the easier we make it for them, opening the border, the quicker we hasten our own demise.

17 Its kind of like what happened in GEORGIA when their former governor joined with the NAACP and JESSIE JACKASSON to try and remove the confederate flag and was voted out and what just recently happened in CANADA they voted out PAUL MARTIN theor former PM becuase he wanted more gun control

Posted by: sandpiper at May 04, 2006 07:40 AM (760E/)

18 Oyster, I think you touched on MiB's motive when you said, "the quicker we hasten our own demise". But what shocks me about this whole episode is that why in the world would Mexicans want to come to the US and turn it into Mexico. You would think they would be smart enough to know that the same conditions would then exist here, and no jobs would be available. The problem in all reality is that just about all these illegal aliens were raised in authoritarian cultures that are not democratic. In the long run, nothing will be gained from letting these people come here, as they have apparently brought their undemocratic and anti-capitalistic notions along with them. We don't need them here at all.
