American Kidnapped in Iraq

Thanks to James Joyner for alerting me that the BBC is reporting that four more hostages have been siezed in Iraq, including one American. Two of the hostages are reportedly non-Iraqi Arabs, while the fourth is from Nepal. The Washington Times reports:

The abductions, which reportedly left one kidnapper dead, occurred in the Mansour district of the capital. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but officials said Muslim insurgents were almost certainly behind the crime.
Now would certainly be a good time to say a prayer for these people. You might recall that over the weekend Japanese hostage Shosei Koda was beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group. I fear the same fate for these poor souls.

1 Is this different from the UN workers that were seized as well? I think that kidnapping was in Afghanistan? What the hell is going on, people? Different terrorist groups now? I say for every beheading, send 1,000 more troops. Food the damned areas where terrorists are known to be doing these atrocities. Or, they could use my first response, carpet bomb the whole area.

2 Interesting that they might have killed one of the hostage takers - perhaps they could learn something as to the location of the hostages based on who this person is. Get a little forensic science working on it, maybe this guy has been seen in particular areas - anything that could be useful in tracking down these criminals.

3 Too bad the hostage taker died though...too bad whoever killed him couldn't have captured him, the way they capture their victims, and get him to give us important information about these insurgents and their whereabouts. When you think of it, all of the hostages seemingly are taken by surprise, no warnings, nothing. Just out of the blue, they are cordoned off if they're driving somewhere, taken over in their homes, even with guards outside, they storm into buildings where they work. How are they even getting that far without interference from Iraqi or American soldiers' presence there?

4 I am desperately searching for news on the American, my friend Roy A. Hallums, that was kidnapped from his SATCO office in Baghdad on November 1. There seems to be NO news circulating about him. Can someone help me? Thanks, James 'Butch' Conner

5 Rusty, Thanks so much for all you did during the ordeal that Roy and his family went through. Thank God for his release and soon to be safe return home. Butch
