Making the rounds today I was checking out Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's (you may know him from such beheadings as Paul Johnson and Kim Sun-Il) website. Guess what...it was hacked!!! GOOD RIDDANCE!!
The CIA/FBI are making a major mistake allowing these sites to be kept up. The reason? This is war. In a war you take away propaganda outlets from the enemy. Yes, they may help us track down al Qaeda elements, but that is just the point. Tracking down and arresting al Qaeda is a police function. Treating the War on Terror as a police matter is Clintonesque and is what got us 9/11. We need to shut all these sites down. They are valuable tools for the enemy.
Here is what Zarqawi's site looked like as of a few minutes after midnight. The hackers left a tag, but their site http://hostinganime.com/teamusa/ only displays the hacker tag 'TeaMz UsA'. Praise Allah for hackers!!! Click the image for larger pic.

There's been a cyber-war going on since 911. That's not the first time one of the jihadi sites has been hacked. It will be back up eventually, unfortunately.

firstbrokenangel: It sounds to me like a good time for you to run Spybot and Ad-Aware, check your browser settings, run a virus scan if you haven't recently, then if you still have a problem contact whoever is responsible for tech support on your browser. Have any of you stopped to consider that various three-letter agencies might have been using these web sites to gather information, or even for other purposes (on which I won't speculate)? I strongly suspect that the CIA, FBI, and NSA have, or have access to, people who are capable of vandalizing web sites; if the sites are still up, it's probably because they want them to be.
I have no inside information on any of this. My guess is that vandalizing an Al Qaeda web site (if that's what it really is) isn't going to have any significant effect one way or another. It's possible, but unlikely, that it could interfere with ongoing operations by the good guys. It's possible, but (I'm guessing) even more unlikely that it could interfere somehow with the bad guys.

I can find no rational arguement for allowing the continued desemination of images of this horrific practice of beheading by islamic militants.
To suggest that the FBI or other government agencies might be using the websites to track down these individuals and that interfering with them destroys their work is poppycock. Even so, it should be a simple matter to hack the image posts themselves and allow the servers to keep running the addresses.
Destroying the ability of the perpetrators of this nasty business should be the first goal, are we agreed?
