I will be upfront and honest, I drive a 2001 Ford F-150; I actually like the truck and go to Ford for service on it. However, I don't like GM products. Right now I think it's overpriced, under-quality products coupled with their poor customer relations (with me specifically) makes GM a poor choice for vehicle purchases. So if you rule out Ford and GM that leaves you with Chrysler. Name one quality car (not truck or minivan) Chrysler has made five years in a row. If you can't, you're not the only one. So when you rule out Ford because of their political motives, GM because of their bad service and products, and Chrysler due to their horrendously bad track record that leaves you with nothing but foreign cars to pick from.
Some people think that's okay because Toyota's most popular car in America, the Toyota Camry, is predominately made in America. Honda has a presence here in the states and even BMW has a plant in Greenville, South Carolina. But, most of the foreign automakers are assembling one or two vehicles here in the United States, not all their vehicles sold here in the US. Walk around a Toyota lot and look at the stickers that tell you what percentage of the car was made in what country. Couple that with the small size of most Japanese cars and you're leaving guys like me with few options.
The one option you're leaving me with is the option I took last summer, Nissan. I bought my wife a surprisingly roomy Nissan Altima and guess where that car was made, 100% overseas. So the real question here is should you side with American workers or American values. In this case it's hard to have your cake and eat it too.

I drive GM and I've found the newer it is more it costs to fix it. Same with Ford the dealer here where I work is a ripoff artist, fortunately there is another Ford dealer I can deal with.
I've driven both Ford and GM. Started with Ford but wound up on GM. a few things I liked about GM is the
were a bit easyer to service than Ford there for a bit.
But I 100% agree with you the AFA.

I love.. no.. LOVE my Jeep. A Chrysler product. I love it not because of who makes it, but what it enables me to do.. the image it presents of strength, durability and rugged freedom. The same qualities I love about the United States.
The AFA is making a good fight protecting the dwindling values that we (some of us) were raised on for generations. I do, however, feel their fight is a bit late in the making.
I agree with MegaTroopX's comment that Ford is a car company.. why do they have a stance on gay marriage in the first place? And entertainers thinking they are politicians? Its silly. Go make another car/cd/movie/tv show and stfu.

I used the link to the American Family Association. It seems that one of the things that they are most upset about, at least on that current web-page, is the refusal of Ford to remove "sexual orientation" from the list of practices to which Ford says that they will not discriminate against. With vehicles becoming grotesquely complex, expensive, and over engineered keeping your old vehicle is a viable option.

I have had the same car for the past 33 years, a plymouth road runner. Have rebuilt the engine twice--last time beyond stock to the tune of about 465HP and one complere rebuild of the 727 transmission. I bought American and have never had to buy again. Damn proud of that driving machine over the years watching these pathetic American traitors litter the highways with filthy foreign shitboxes.

This has nothing to do with Ford's advocacy, but ... The only Ford I ever had was a '92 Ranger. Fantastic little truck - what a workhorse it was. I have a 2000 Tahoe now and my trusty '97 Jeep. The Tahoe is a great car. It has a couple minor design flaws, but it's been very reliable and I need it for carrying big stuff around.
I'm with JT on the Jeep though. I LOVE my Wrangler. It's what I drive most of the time.
Hubby bought a Honda motorcycle back in '97. Made in the good ol' USA right down to the paint. He still has it and it's never been in the shop. When Harley riders give him grief to "buy American" his only response is,
"Put your pink slip where your mouth is. Let's take a ride from FL to CA and you can only stop for gas. I'll have your slip before we reach Louisiana."

The first new car I bought out of college was a Chevy blazer. Brand new, it was a great ride for about 60 days. The thing began to squeak about 2 or 3 months after I bought it. After 2 years I had several problems covered by the 36/36,000 warranty. After the 3-year warranty expired, the thing completely fell apart. I kept putting money into it for a couple of years, then traded up to a new GMC Suburban. The story with the Suburban was almost exactly the same. It completely fell apart after 3 years. I had it paid off but it was like I had a car payment every other month with the repairs it needed. I kept putting money into the thing for a couple of years then sold it.
At this point, I told my wife there was no way GM was getting another $30,000 of my money. I had a company car and I bought my wife a Honda Pilot. We have had it about 4 years and have never had a problem with it. I bought a Toyota 4-runner for myself about 2 years ago and it has been a great car.
The guy who owns the company I work for has had a Lincoln Navigator for about 3.5 years. This Ford product has been at the dealer for repairs at least 10 times in the last 2 years. It is now out of warranty, he owes about 30k on it and the problems he takes it in for are never fixed correctly. I laugh when he tells me how the guys at the dealer suggest he trade it in for a new one. That in a nutshell seems to be the American auto industryÂ’s version of customer care and service. Pass the piece of crap you own on to the next guy and buy a new one from us.
I do not know what the answer is for the American auto industry. I do know that they will not get me to pony up $30k for a new car unless something changes. I just donÂ’t see anything happening to convince me that the American auto industry has learned anything at all. They have fooled me twice, never again.

When I finally drive my Mazda into the ground ( I bought it before I became politically correct ) I think I will forgo a car and save myself the grief of spending all day filling out mounds of forms at the Dealership while listening to some chain-smoking salesman. As for Ford, I will not do business with any dung-doodling advocates.
