2 So typical of the UN even then they were a bunch of dunder heads. Why we are a part of this lunacy is beyond me.

3 Yeah, even back then in 1944, the UN were a bunch of dumbasses. The ignorant fools.

4 Still no improvement. Now Clinton to be UN envoy. There was no tsunami. No, never, not one time as he shakes his finger at us.

5 Guys guys, I hate to be the spoilsport, but this is parody. It's very good parody however and refers to this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52442-2005Jan31.html?sub=AR As I said, I'm sorry to be the spoilsport, but I think somebody (cough) needed to be told.

6 Absolutely amazing, isn't it? When I went back to college in my mid-thirties, one of my theses was on the Holocaust. It seemed like years before rumors even hit our shores but when we actually went there (ie Normandy and other strategic places) , our forces were in for the shock of their lives. History came from the survivors. I was amazed at the numbers; numbers of Russians, numbers of criminals and the horrific numbers of Jews. Every movie that has ever been made, I have probably seen it but I do have to say my favorite was "Escape from Sorbibor." Besides "Schindler's List" this one was definitely the best. And the thing was, the half Jewish leader, Adolf Hitler wrote a book "Mein Kamp" which you can't get in it's entirety anymore, saying everything he was going to do and why and he managed to do all that stuff (along with the SS, not the German Army who was pretty much unaware of what was going on, too and they were right there). One of the first group of Americans to come across a death camp was a platoon of black men; theseblack people were unknown to them at the time but this group were their saviors. Both groups of people were in shock, per se. I did an excellent paper on this but I had no idea the UN was even in place then much less coming to the conclusion genocide was not happening, just as genocide is not happening in Darfur or other places around the world. The UN is supposed to make sure these actions do not happen and if they are, take immediate action - and as we all know, the UN has not taken any action against anyone. So why are we bothering with them? Money was given by our govt but we all saw the President Bush has been pushing for donations to go into individual groups through Freedom Corps because he knew those donations would get to where they had to go long before all the monies of given to the UN from countries' governments will ever reach them and reach them way too late. We've had discussions about the UN before and like all the oldies' here, we believed the UN building should be razed and buried into the nearest river in NYC and all those in it, sent back to the countries fro whence they came instead of living freely in our country. Now that I know they were also involved with the situation in Germany with over 10M people killed (6M jews) only pisses me off more. They could have saved so many people from one of the most horrific historic times on this earth and another horrible thing we should never forget! Cindy

7 Will someone please open a book and tell me when the UN was established? Seems my taxes rose about that time.

8 I have a collection of Natural Geos. I often look at the ones from the late 1930s. Unbelieveable stuff. The numbers of people in the US that were pro Germany is hard to understand given what we know now. There were pro Germany parades and demostations. Particularly in the North East. People were not passively sitting and ignoring the Nazi threat as many believe. Americans were actually fighting in the streets to keep us out of the war with Germany. Communists were far more active in the labor movement than we are told today. Reminds me of the war in Iraq. The difference seems to be that once we went to war Americans banded together for a common cause. Democrats were in power when we declared war on Germany. Everyone showed their patriotism by joining in 100%. We went to war in Korea. The democrats were in charge then.Same thing happened. We went to war in Viet Nam. The democrats were in charge. Same thing happened. Then we went to war in Iraq. What did the democrats do? Food for thought.

13 What would we be without the UN?

Posted by: Rod Stanton at February 02, 2005 10:45 AM (gVJtb)

14 Right, isn't that a prefix or something??

Posted by: Rusty at February 02, 2005 10:58 AM (JQjhA)

15 UN stands for Unfriendly Nations.

Posted by: greyrooster at February 02, 2005 04:04 PM (GpysX)

16 What's sad is that the smarties who think they got it and I didn't aren't themselves smart enough to get my comments. Damn, blogging used to be so much more fun.

17 Napoleon didn't listen to the UN either.

Posted by: greyrooster at February 02, 2005 07:42 PM (GpysX)

18 If you knew anything about history, you'd realize the United Nations were established October 24, 1945. I suggest an apology or at least a clarification since, hey, after all, blogs want us to believe to be the successors of the MSM. A Eason Jordan would have to resign over this.
