Terrorists Infiltrate Europe

- Boston.com

BERLIN -- Islamic extremists accused of plotting to kill Iraq's prime minister in Germany are smuggling battle-hardened fighters from Iraq to Europe, raising a potential new terrorist threat on the continent, according to German officials.

More than 20 alleged supporters of Ansar al-Islam have been arrested in Europe in the past year as authorities move against the group that has links with al-Qaida and Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who's been leading bloody attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq.

Ansar al-Islam is suspected of spiriting dozens of fired-up young Muslims to Iraq to join the insurgency, but the latest raids in Germany -- the most spectacular yet against the group -- heightened concerns that the organization also could pose a menace outside Iraq, too.

I've reported on jihadists traveling from Europe to Iraq, but not the other way around. This is a disturbing trend on a variety of sides. Are the jihadis ready to wage war in Europe as their plans for years have indicated? Will Ansar al-Sunnah, who recently said they will attack inside the U.S., use European passports to enter the United States?

Whether Europe realizes it or not, and I would presume they do not as of yet, Europe is fast-becomming a radical islamic breeding ground and hotspot. We all know of the brutal attack on Dutch filmaker Theo Van Gough in the Netherlands. What is next? Could the recent upswing in anti-semetic grafiti and vandalism in France be a signal the islmofacists have already taken root in France as well?

1 This is a past tense "news" item. It has been going on since Carter stabed the Shaw in the back. In the 911 report they said that Sadam's intelligence men meet with the planers and 3 of the doers of the 911 attacks in Berlin in 1995. Rod Stanton

2 It happened even before Carter and the Shah, however according to the article different types of terrorists have entered Europe. In fact, there is a different type of terrorist today than we had in the 70s as well. The point of both the article and the post is the impending battlegound Europe on terrorism, not whether or not terrorists have been in Europe for 30+ years. There is a recent influx of terrorists into Europe, which is newsworthy.

3 Chad, Our biggest problem with terrorists is Britain and I agree this is very old news and the other thing I don't agree with you on, Chad, is how you respond to someone who could be your father and "has been there" and probably knows more than you do - blog or no. You're responses are starting to get on my nerves - hell, I could be your mother so maybe you can understand why I feel the way I do. The terrorists in Iraq before the war was Saddam and his men; do you really think he'd allow other terrorists to live in his country unless he had them there for a purpose? Of course not. Yes his people met with the hijackers and all that crap. Checkyna is Muslim - so more problems there. But Iraq became the hot spot because WE were there but other than that, they were everywhere else, especially Europe. Basically it's not from Iraq to Europe; it's Europe to Iraq. Cindy

4 I think you're reading something into comments that's not there. I'm not sure what you keep refering to or how I've somehow offended you.

5 Read it again after you've had a night's sleep - or ask someone about 20 years older than yourself. Cindy

7 Chad, Don't mind Cindy, her (numerous) posts are often filled with inconsistencies and made-up facts, obviously without any proof. Your responses are perfectly normal and innocuous. We all have different opinions on different matters.
