Two soldiers plead guilty yesterday to crimes against prisoners in Iraq.
US Army Reserve Specialist Roman Krol, 23 from Massachusetts, was sentenced to 10 months yesterday for his role in the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal.
He forced prisoners to crawl around on the ground. He threw a Nerf football at prisoners. He poured water on prisoners.
Sounds more like any high school football program in Texas than 'torture'. No, that anology doesn't quite do justice to the rigors of high school football. After all, Krol had the decency to use Nerf.
Stepping on fingers and toes? I guess my big brother is a 'War Criminal' too. And trust me, my big brother did much worse.
1
Nerf torture? A stomped finger? Ohhhhhhhhh that sounds horrible!! I wonder why my senior frat mates did not get prison for making me run up a flight of stairs during pledge week with a Carrot suck up my ass!
I would have loved to have been hit with a nerf ball. HAving water poured on me would have been a blessing. Finger stomp? Unpleasant but, I would have rather had that done than the carrot up the butt.
I did manage to get in the frat by the way.

You know--What would be considered the extreme OPPOSITE of torturing? What about tickling? And yet, something tells me that had soldiers actually just TICKLED prisoners, the same "T" word (torture) would STILL be utilized by the powers that be covering this.

Pacification of cry babies in the states. Read back some of the posts by contributors. They talked about how wrong our soldiers were.
Reactions like those destroyed the careers of brave soldiers. As I asked before. Have our generals turned to nothing more than lackies for the liberals? More concerned about their careers than those of our soldiers. Political correctness before loyalty to those doing the fighting. I haven't heard of one high ranking officer coming to the aid the soldiers.

Right on, Rooster! Since when is it a crime? Aren't we SUPPOSED to make life difficult for the enemy prisoners? Who says we have to treat them like guests at the Holiday Inn? And if they weren't captured but killed in the first place, why aren't the soldiers up for MURDER?????
I DON'T GET ANY OF THIS AND NEVER WILL.

Crazy shit happened everywhere, in schools, offices, whatever. Abu Ghraib is nothing but silly, sophomoric pranks, similiar to college hazing, but not even as bad as THOSE, and still our soldiers have a trial!
I still say we were pressured into this for fear of retaliation by the insurgents, not that they need any reason for beheading innocent people.

A Poem from one of my favorite movies:
In prison cell I sadly sit,
A d_d crest-fallen chappie!
And own to you I feel a bit-
A little bit - unhappy!
It really ain't the place nor time
To reel off rhyming diction -
But yet we'll write a final rhyme
Whilst waiting cru-ci-fixion!
No matter what "end" they decide -
Quick-lime or "b'iling ile," sir?
We'll do our best when crucified
To finish off in style, sir!
But we bequeath a parting tip
For sound advice of such men,
Who come across in transport ship
To polish off the Dutchmen!
If you encounter any Boers
You really must not loot 'em!
And if you wish to leave these shores,
For pity's sake, DON"T SHOOT 'EM!!
And if you'd earn a D.S.O.
Why every British sinner
Should know the prpoer way to go
Is:"ASK THE BOER TO DINNER!"
Let's toss a bumper down our throat, -
Before we pass to Heaven,
And toast: "The trim-set petticoat
We leave behind in Devon."
Harry "Breaker" Morant

Most people seem to have forgotten that the "abuse" at Abu Ghraib ranged from humiliation to rape, beatings and even murder. Here is an excerpt from an article on msnbc.com a while back:
"It gets worse. Before the Senate Armed Services Committee last Friday, a chastened Rumsfeld warned that more photos and even videos will surface. (This time the Pentagon itself will release the video to Congress, rather than wait for the inevitable leak.) According to knowledgeable sources, the images include an American soldier having sex with a female Iraqi detainee and American soldiers watching Iraqis have sex with juveniles. Another photo shows a female prison guard gloating over the body of a dead Iraqi."
Aren't you glad those pictures (and videos) never made it out?
Did this happen at your high school as well? Are these locker room antics? Do you people reminisce about those "silly" rapings in college? What about the murders? Did you even go to college? I think not.
Of course someone will most likely respond with "Hey, at least we did not cut the prisoners' heads off." First of all, the American people don't know the extent of abuse at Abu Ghraib. We certainly don't know what happens at Guantanamo Bay. Before you blindly support what these sick assholes at these prisons have done, take into consideration that their actionc go beyond simple pranks.
Now, about those beheaders...can someone tell me what iraqi prison they are stationed in? Could you identify the rank of the "abuser" cutting off that head? Perhaps you could call the ground commander responsbile for the officers' actions and ask for a statement. Wait a second, YOU CAN'T. Those monsters beheading hostages are not members of an organized military like the US ARMY. They do not operate under any military laws or codes. Their actions do not represent their countires like the guards at Abu Ghraib. They are murderers. They kill in order to spread fear and its as simple as that. STOP COMPARIING THE TERRORISTS AND THE GUARDS!!!
Instead, realize that what the guards did is an inhuman act and they must face the consequences for their actions. Worse, their actions reflect badly on this country and they should be ashamed as citizens AND as human beings. My only regret is that many of the guards were most likely FORCED to do those crimes by their superiors. Either way, it was their DUTY as human beings to protest. Thus, I have no remorse for any sentences that they recieve. I am glad their careers are over and hopefully, their superior's careers will end as well. They should be ashamed. I don't know how they can even look at their family's and friend's faces again if they committed those crimes against humanity without a guilty conscience.
However, if they were simply following orders and feel remorse for their actions, then I hope they can lead a good life and become good examples for others.
Karl's post said it well: STOP THE TORTURE, STOP THE KILLING!

I believe the majority of the prisoners in Abu Ghraib (at least the ones being abused) were Iraqi soldiers. The terrorists and insurgents started rising up after the initial invasion. They started beheading hostages after reports of abuse started to spread. Again, the majority of the prisoners in Abu Ghraib were iraqi soldiers who surrendered and probably were happy to stop fighting for an evil regime and wanted to join their families.
Terrorists usually don't end up in prison. They either kill themselves or are killed in attempts to kill others by killing themselves.
Oh and someone acknowledge filthy before he starts to cry from lack of attention.

I'm just stating the facts. The berg video came out after abu ghraib. So you can go on about how they started this and that all you want. In either case...you can't compare their actions to ours. Its like you are all in preschool and are crying about how johnny "threw spit wads while you only thew crumpled up paper" after you were caught.
Stop making excuses. Acknowledge the guards actions for what they are: a crime. If the guards want to do whatever they want without facing consequences then they should become terrorists. Terrorists have no morals and don't abide by rules. They do whatever they want. They cannot be compared to US soldiers. Get that through your fucking skulls.
Believe in equality? NO. Our troops and terrorists ARE NOT EQUAL. Terrorists are the absolute scum of the earth. The guards that did this stooped to their level when they committed those crimes.
I am curious though...wut if WE start beheading prisoners? What would that solve? What if we don't prosecute the guilty guards? Will that make you feel better? Would it stop terrorists from doing what they do? No it wouldn't. They don't care about abu ghraib. They probably celebrated after hearing about it because it gave them the 'excuse' they needed to fire up there camcorders. Open your fucking eyes.

Kerry the traitor lost the election.
Kennedy the woman killer is lost in his own dribble.
Dean the madman is still acting nuts.
Clinton the liar is working for Kofi the clown.
You lost. Admit it. Bush is great. Blair is great. American soldiers are great. The people of Iraq just had a free and honest election.
Sadam is in jail. He will be executed.
Bin Laden (if alive) is hiding in a cave somewhere.
Zawqawi and his henchmen are losing.
We won. A few more months will tell. When we take care of Iran are you going to continue to exaggerate and cry.
Good analogy Karl. Try this one.
You are a truck driver working to support your family.
You are captured, bound, beaten, starved, tortured, blindfolded and held chained in a dark room for weeks.
Your crime. You were delivering food to the hungry. You are made through torture to confess to this terrible crime. All the while you know you are going to be slaughtered by having your head slowly cut off. The worst part is that you know your children, wife, parents are going to see you die on Al Jazeera news at 5:pm. THIS IS A TRUE STORY NOT THE FICTIOUS BULLSHIT CONTAINED IN YOUR STORY. REMEMBER MARGARET? GUESS SHE DESERVED WHAT SHE GOT.
Jim: your knowledgeable resources are pure baloney. There wasn't any rapes or murders. Name one. What's their names. Are you trying to tell me our military doesn't try soldiers for rape? Hey guy. They try soldiers for throwing nerf balls. This incorrect info was put out because some people are gullible and will believe anything. Particarly if they want to. Pure bullshit brought to you by the liberal media looking for a story. Just unsubstanciated rumors.
It was a pleasure to see Dan Rather apologize on tv. He apologized for trying to influence the outcome of an election by submitting and reporting fictitious material. A liberal thing. Anything to justify the end.
Not fair to compare the deeds of US soldiers to those of the terrorists/insurgents? Not military unit? Bull. They are the army of Islam. They don't wear uniforms because they are cowards who hide among the innocents. By all rules and laws of war they should be shot on site.
The claimed videos showing a soldier having seex (mispelling on purpose) with an Iraqi woman was a hoax as were all the other lies. Just more pre-election BS from liberal demos grasping at a last attempt to steal an election. None of it true, none of it proven. No charges made. A canard, a prevarication, a lie, an untruth, a fabrication, a distortion, a deception, a misrepresentation.
IT NEVER HAPPENED!
A female soldier gloating over the body of a dead terrorist. What is the crime? Even if true.
Myself, I would piss on their bodies every time a bomb went off and killed innocent civilians.
What's a matter with you guys. You've obviously got brains. Are you so locked up in liberal academia (yea, it shows) that common sense doesn't apply anymore?
Bush is great, Are soldiers are great. Don't let the obvious pass you by. America is the best Big Dog in the history of the world. America doesn't conquer nations. America saves nations.
GET OUT AND SMELL THE COFFEE. The Iraqi election was the best thing that ever happened in the middle east. It happened because of our brave president, our brave military and our brave people that voted to keep a man with guts in office. Join in.
Or go to Iraq. Tell the terrorists/insurgents that you are there to help them because American troops are mistreating them. I'm sure they will welcome you with open knives.

It makes everyone involved turn into animals. You are that naive that you think there were no rapes or murders in that prison? You were supposedly a marine right? You know there is some ugly things that happen on both sides and don't sit there and pretend it doesn't. Knowing the kind of person you are, you probably were involved in those ugly things.
Once again: you cant compare terrorists to guards. Why don't you get that?

A link to articles doesn't mean the articles are true.
You're are obviously a shut in. 99.99% of soldiers do not turn into animals.
I do not believe there were rapes and murders in that prison while the US military was running it. Pure Bullshit.
Killing the enemy, or killing someone trying to kill you is not ugly. Perhaps to you. You haven't been there. All soldiers lose their way? What? How do you know? From experience? My battalion of 26th Marines had no ugly incidences. We did kill lots and lots of the enemy. Read your history. That is our job. That's what we were trained for. No shame here. Battle can also bring out good qualities of men. Like devotion, courage, bravery, ability, comradship and mercy. When I served in Viet Nam I wasn't pissed at the Vietnamese regulars. They were fighting a war just like us. We did not kill wounded or prisoners. We extended our hands to help innocent civilians. Furthermore, we were instructed that once resistance ended we had better not continue to fire. You fantasize too much. Wasn't like that at all. Too many war movies? Hollywood seldom if ever gets it right. We didn't machine gun women in rice patties. Mistakes were made. Of course. But not on purpose. Send a 19 year old draftee into battle with bullets, mortars and such aimed at him and one never knows what will happen. I've seen them firing in the wrong direction without even looking. Mistakes were not done on purpose. Furthermore, if the enemy would fight with honor according to the rules of war, far less errors would occur. Other units stationed in cities and such may have had different experiences. Such as bombings and ambushes by out of uniform enemy. I did not. I was always in the field. Doing my job and hoping to get back in one piece. There wasn't many Lt Calleys in Vietnam. But its good fodder for liberal hippies wishing to use anything and everything to further their beliefs.
The Cong and NVA took prisoners. They did sometimes resort to various tortures and cruel treatment. They also kept prisoners for up to six years. Most of the prisoners came home. Thats not what our boys are living with now. My son has told me he will be killed before being captured. No choice. In Nam we had a choice.
As far as your comment (knowing the person you are you were probably involved in those things)
Insulting my military service is crossing the line. You are a cowardly liar. Plain and simple. Just another cry baby liberal asshole that hasn't experienced anything in life but thinks he has. So fuck you. You're not brave enough or man enough to serve.
You have nothing to gauge your opinions on except conjecture, movies and the liberal media. Like I said before get out of your closet and experience something. Or are you to chicken shit?

Rooster, I never said ALL soldiers do those things but some do. Stop putting words in my mouth. Its been documented throughout history. Yes people make movies about them because, well, they actually happened. The simple fact that we are arguing about Abu Ghraib shows that it just happened and still does. That is the nature of war.
I think its hilarious that you are so quick to denounce ANY ARTICLE that disproves your pitiful arguements as FAKE only to respond with "go out and experience something". Okay, lets say I enlist and request to be stationed in Abu Ghraib. If I DO see shit going on and report about it here, you will simply call me a "cowardly whistleblower" or "a traitor" or some other crap. YOU KNOW YOU WOULD. How about you actually try to research about an issue instead of raising the BS flag everytime you can't join a discussion (which is often for you).
Also, I am not going to sit here and listen to all of your insults to me and other people and not fire shit back. Obviously you can't take what you dish out. I made those comments based on how you have carried yourself in your comments and the things you have said. So instead of getting mad at me, why don't you reflect on yourself. WOW. I think your eyesight has diminished in your old age SIR. Re-read what I posted.
"We all know soldiers lose their way in war."
As far as war turning all involved into animals. YES IT DOES. The simple act of killing another human being in warfare actually makes us worse than animals. Again, that is a part of war. Its a terrible thing.
But don't misunderstand. I said "soldiers" not "ALL SOLDIERS". I know that the majority of our troops out there follow a code and only kill because they have to. On the other hand, I know that SOME DON'T. I never said all soldiers lose their way.
Do me a favor and try to digest what you read before pecking away at the keyboard in your crazy rants. Perhaps I can buy a you a pair of glasses? Oh wait, you probably already have some. Perhaps a coupon for a free eye exam to get your perscription updated?

I just want to say that I served in Iraq and returned home within the last week. I am pround to have served over there and not sat in a comfy raolling chair behind some desk in an air conditioned office complaining about how life sucks or how I am going to make my next million. We are making a positive difference each and every day. I was with an engineer unit building schools, clinics, road projects, etc. Positive things your don't see on the news.
I used to be with the MI unit that was at Abu Ghraib but jumped into the engineer unit prior to the beginning of the operation. I know one of the soldiers who pleaded guilty. I know what those soldiers may have felt like when they lost some of their own leading up to the abuse, many others wounded. Many were my friends too. However, that does not give anyone the right to go as far as they did. Forcing prisoners to have sex? There is a limit and some of what was occuring goes against what we in the military and what we as citizens of a free and democratic society believe in.
What many do not understand is the prisoner abuse plastered on the news made our job much more difficult over there. They tried to get information from the detainees but what they did caused more harm than good. Many Iraqis who were sitting on the fence were then against us. Those who worked for us asked why. Why would americans do that? Why? Some even quit and we found it very difficult to get things done because nobody wanted to work for us. One question that stuck out in my mind asked by one of my Iraqi engineers was, "Why would the american media show that?" The answer was simple. Freedom of the press.
Now, I am going to change the topic slightly. The media feeds off negative information, the terrorist know that and in a way they have one the information battle. Al Jezeera isn't alone... ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX... all of them rarely show any of the positive things happening over there. My unit did well over 700 amazing projects and none made it into anything more than our local news back home, mostly print media.
We have many freedoms we should all be thankful for. There is a reason for the sacrifices we make every day. Our soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen and women are fighting in Iraq to keep terrorists from fighting here at home.

I also have served in Iraq!
I respect you Lithium, instead you DID something, most of these posters here only sit on their ass all day sayin what people should or should not do. Maybe we should send them to iraq so they learns what real pain is. Then they would be a lil more cautious when they open their mouth.
I wish these mofo's would shut it and come and help!
Greyrooster, you should really learn not to blow things up, there are always two sides on a story. The americans in iraq aren't the bastards that some ppl want to believe but those pictures aren't at all the same of your highschool pranks. They are very serious and so they are punished, just like it should be! Now stop talking about shit you dont know nothing about pisspants.
