Zarqawi on the Run, Changes Terrorist Name

Last week the press reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had formally pledged his Tawhid and Jihad terrorist organization's loyalty to Ossama bin Laden's al Qaeda network. Chad Evans at In the Bullpen informs me of a press report that Zarqawi's group has changed names. His new al Qaeda linked organization will be callled "al-Qaida of Jihad in the Land of Two Rivers"--proving once again that terrorists think of the worst names.

Also, there seems to be some evidence that Zarqawi is receiving aid from Iran. Which points out one of the problems with Pat Buchanan's theory of isolating terrorist supporting states in much the same way that we isolated states in the past: it assumes that Islamic states will act just like any other state--rationally. I actually heard Pat say once that the Mullahs in Iran would not do anything stupid that would threaten their own national existence. You mean do something stupid like support a terrorist organization with official ties to al Qaeda?

So, what's in a name? Nothing, oh, except if your a Democrat who think this is the Global War on bin Laden not the Global War on Terror. Is it just me, or do the rest of you almost puke when you hear Kerry try to invoke bin Laden's name as if al Qaeda were the only terrorist organization bent on global jihad in the world? So now that Zarqawi is officially linked to al Qaeda maybe the Democrats will support his extermination. Now if only Arafat would change his party's name to "Fatah and al Qaeda in the land of Zionist pigs" .....

In related news, check out this al-Reuters article. First, notice the headline: "Iraq Rebels Betraying Zarqawi". Betraying? WTF? The rest of the article is better than the headline might suggest.

Iraqi guerrillas resentful of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's growing influence are giving the government information putting security forces hot on his trail, a senior official said Wednesday....

Staring at a photograph of the elusive Zarqawi, Rubaie said the interim government was closer than ever to tracking down the most wanted man in Iraq, to its unlikely allies.

Chad at In the Bullpen notes that "various reports...indicate that [Zarqawi] might indeed be dead." I'll add speculation to those rumors that if he's not dead, he is indeed on the run and his unification with al Qaeda may be a last desperate attempt to matter. The websites he usually uses to distribute his snuff films has not been updated in almost a month. The only word we've had from him is through his proxies on Islamic Bulletin Boards. However, in the past, after statements are made on these bulletin boards, the group usually confirms them as official by posting them to at least one of a dozen or so websites. In the past month, nothing. A sign? I sure hope so. Keeping my fingers crossed.

2 Am I the only one. But it seems to me like it's not called the War on terror. It's called the War On Iraq. and this war is never going to be won as long as we are over there. Those people look at it as though we are now invading their country since Saddam is gone. And no matter how many mystery men we name (osama , Zarqawi) they are always gonna hate us. There's no way we can win... oh yeah unless like your boy said we (Stay on course and they will see the light eventually)

3 Nice one, Rusty. You've even brought in some swamp rats! IraQ: The war in Iraq is part of the War on Terror. The problems we are having in Iraq have less to do with Arab resentment towards America than Iran's fear of American intervention in their nuclear designs and the U.N. hierarchy's fear of being exposed as the larcenous frauds they are.

4 Back off it's Rusty's blog he can say anything he wants to...we are uninvited guests. Iraq, I agree it is the war on terrorism, and as this blog stated, we now know that terrorists are not just limited to "Osama's group"...that they are in a lot of countries, not just Afghanistan, etc. Had Bush said we were going to Iraq to get the terrorists hiding out there, I think there wouldn't be all this Bush bashing. He used the wrong reasoning, to find WMD, or oil, or to free the people whatever. Whether they be in Osama's group or Zarqawi's these towelhead terroristic bastards are all the same and must be snuffed out. BTW, everyone has strayed so far away from the war in Arghanistan, no one says whether or not we illegally invaded them...it was just when we went into Iraq that all this "illegal invasion" business started.

5 Senator Kerry referred to ricin as a biological weapon today. I suppose it sounds like "rice" and thats a plant and therefore biological. It is a pedantic complaint but one that would be a blasted across the left-hand side of the blogosphere if President Bush had made the same mistake. "He's stupid." "He's Hitler." the people in the pink tanks and clown heads would say.

6 Sorry, I got distracted by the dolts who wrote the first two comments up there. My point is that Senator Kerry is incompetent to run a war on bin Laden or a war on terror.

7 Amen flea. And Laura, I would just add that you are "invited guests". Also, I would also add that part of me agrees with IraQ. I'm not sure that there is anything we can do to get those people to like us. On the other hand, I don't care if they like us. What I care about is if they share our goal of killing the Islamofascists.

8 Hi Rusty, sorry to spam your comments here. Apparently ricin is prohibited by both the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) and Schedule 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) so is considered both a chemical and biological weapon. So I will just shut my big mouth.

9 Damn Flea, Spam away.

10 Whether Zarqawi's dead is not the point...look at the latest kidnapping! There will still be his cohorts to carry out the dastardly deeds of kidnapping and beheading innocent victims. Unfortunately, I have a nagging feeling he's still very much alive.

11 I can't wait to get deployed!!! I would love to be the one that puts a bullet right between Zarquawi's eyes while he squirms and begs for mercy with his neck underneath my boot. The people that think that Kerry has the stomach for this are living on a special kind of drug. I would invite Mr. Zarquawi to come on out and face me and my cohorts. Make sure to bring some friends and a falafal, you are gonna be awhile. It is gonna be great to work our way around the world kicking the ass of the people that think WE are the Great Satan. God Bless America and everywhere that freedom loving people live.

12 Right on, David! I will pray for you! Go to Ken Bigley's beheading blog, where anti-American Brits seem to regale in bashing Bush and America for its so called "illegal invasion". As far as I'm concerned 9/11 was an "illegal invasion", Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, they're all the same to me. Read their comments, it's really sickening to see such non-support of our troops. Take care.

13 David, you rule. God speed.

Posted by: Ghost of a flea at October 20, 2004 08:18 PM (bhsI/)

14 Got news for you guys. They hated (jealous of) us long before we invaded. Iraqi's that like us? About 50% of those we allowed to move here.

15 I'm still trying to find out who gets to say if a war is illegal or legal. I do know that the guy who wins is always right.
