Willing Martyrs or Kidnapped Victims?

FOXNEWS:

Ever wonder why a person would strap on a bomb and blow himself and civilians to bits, me too?

Mohammed Ali, who claimed to be Saudi-born and appeared to be in his 20s, Ali said insurgents kidnapped him from a field near his home earlier this month, then drugged and beat him. His story was similar to those recounted by other captured militants. The captives routinely claim they were either coerced or fooled by insurgent leaders who promised them a role in the holy war against the U.S. military, only to find themselves as would-be suicide bombers sent to attack civilians.

Next.

Musab Aqil al-Khayal, a 19-year-old Syrian, was shown on state television Saturday confessing to his aborted involvement in a bombing earlier in the week in which a companion exploded his car bomb in the midst of day laborers assembled to find work. "Those dogs fooled me," he told Iraqi interrogators.

Ah now I see, come on Zaqueery strap one on and put your money where your mouth is. Having seen some of Al-Zarqawi's methods I would not put it past him.

1 I'm torn I want to believe that but I can't help but wonder if this is not just a story that they are all told to tell if caught.

2 I'm with you on this one Howie. That's exactly what I wondered myself. It's a shame to have to always believe the worst about these people, but they leave us no choice.

4 Actually, I would think that when they're told to lie it's to make themselves look better (as a group) or make the coalition look worse. By saying that they were tricked or forced they're making the jihadis look bad. It defeats the purpose of their propaganda. For those who vocally espouse a philosophy of embracing death or martyrdom, to tell an individual to lie in this fashion goes against everything they believe in as a group. No. I think by saying this, they are probably lying, but it's because they're not 100% into the suicide thing and are just trying to save their own individual necks. I think if they went back to the group afterwards someone would say to them, "al-Ricky, you got some 'splainin to do." knowhatimean?
