The Muslim Double Standard In Iraq

UPDATE: The article has now been published in the Arab News, the official paper of Saudi Arabia. Jane has had her editorials published there before and its a good sign that the Kingdom is openning up--even if only a crack.

Our good friend Jane has this article posted at Iraq.net and at her blog. Here's a teaser:

All tactics of the insurgents are excused. Hide among civilians. Justified. Wear civilian clothes. Justified. Shoot from the holy mosque. Justified. Feign death to draw soldiers in (the way one marine died the day before the incident). Justified. Wave a white flag as a ploy. Justified. Booby trap dead bodies. Justified. ThatÂ’s just Fallujah.

Moving outward- Deliberately killing Iraqi civilians daily. Justified. Bombing churches. Justified. Bombing cafes. Justified. Using schools as arsenals. Justified. Attacking the police. Just fine.

The rules of war donÂ’t apply to the insurgents, only the Americans. And if one horrible act occurs at the hands of one American soldier, the world howls. READ THE REST

2 Er, if you're going to argue, might want to not prove the stereotype by saying something that stupid.

11 A couple of things: Arab News is not "the official paper of Saudi Arabia". It's one of a couple dozen privately owned papers and is sister paper to Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat, based in London. The paper's owners also own Al-Arabyia and Middle East Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) satellite TV stations. There are no "official Saudi newspapers", in fact. The Saudi gov't owns and operates the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a wire service, and also publishes a weekly official record of government actions (along the lines of Congressional Record or Hansard). It does own and operate three TV stations, a national radio network, and a religion-oriented satellite TV station, Iqra.

12 The Arab world has to have news people who'll slant the truth or report the news affecting them in a way that would appear to make what their "Warriors" do as correct and heroic. And that's pretty hard to do because in the History of the World, the "Arab Warrior" has never been "Heroic". Stupid, maybe . . or at his best, a Terrorist, because they never fought in any conventional way, always killing women, children, whoever. And when forced to fight in conventional methods, has always been defeated, unless the Arab Army outnumbered the enemy by tremendous numbers. Read your history . . it'll show you why there's a double standard in the war we're fighting currently. We are dealing with one of the most cowardly ethnic groups in the world, and as luck would have it, they have embraced one of the most regressive beliefs in history, so probably the only way peace can become a reality in our world is to turn all of them into targets!

13 Remember Rambo III? They sent him to Iraq in that one. Little did the producers know then, that the fictional script would become reality 20 yrs. later. I just watched it last night on TV, and it's too bad we didn't have a couple of dozen of Rambo types who could clear out a city in no time.

19 Date: 24 Feb. 05 To the respected editor, Will you please give your valuable time to go through this e-mail request message so that all the people of Nepal will be very Grateful to you. You yourself have great wisdom to acknowledge that how peacefully and happily we, the people of Nepal are surviving here in Nepal. With great emotion all the people of Nepal are praying and begging to the Almighty God that Nepalese people will not suffer as Cambodian people suffered in late seventies and Nepal will not face the fate of second Cambodia. As Nepal was exposed to the outside world in 1950 decade we are always reputedly recognized and known as a backward, mass illiterate, severely poverty stricken, and severely isolated and a small mountainous kingdom in the world. In true sense Nepalese people are always suffering from mass illiteracy, severe poverty, severe ignorance, backwardness and isolation. Because of this entire sad situation we always remain at the bottom among the least developed countries of the world. Despite of our above mentioned horrible difficult situations and poverties, unfortunately since about one decade we are facing unbearable civil war in the name of politico-philosophical experiment as a guerilla war- fare training ground in the isolated and difficult geographical structure like sloppy and steep terrain of the remote hills and high mountains of Nepal, similar to remote forest covered, sloppy difficult terrain of high hills and mountainous regions of Peru was used and is being used in Latin America since 1980 decade to 1990decade and to some extant till today. Because of all these unfortunate happening we are continuously destroying the basic infrastructures like roads, bridges, schools; irrigation facilities, communication facilities, locally constructed rural electrification facilities and all the other human society needed essential facilities, constructed and supported since many decades by all the friendly countries of Nepal all over the world . By this unfortunate and unwanted happening we the people of Nepal are becoming poorer, more backward, isolated day by day. Not only this in this period we have already lost thousands of precious mostly young human lives without any mission. We are also highly worried about the continuous disturbance of education of young children due to the frequent closedown of schools, not peaceful, hopeless and spoiled environment in the country. Obediently Dr. Kalyan Basnet Hetauda Hospital And All the people of Nepal
